1 Translator Group Central South Consortium Joint Education Service Division Learning and Innovation Network for Schools Section - Sub Section - Post Title Translator Vision Post Number Grade Grade 8 Responsible to Post Reporting to this Post Team CRB Required Level Location Service and Resource Manager N/A Learning and Innovation Network for Schools N/A Ty Dysgu Date of Description May 2012 KEY OBJECTIVES Preparation of "English > Welsh" and "Welsh > English" translations in the context of the Consortium s Welsh Language Scheme/Welsh Language Measure. Reading and correction of proofs and editing of translations and provide simultaneous translation in meetings and events arranged by the council.

2 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY 1. Reading through original material and writing it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained. 2. Proof-read documents and editing translations, including the proof-reading of English documents as and when necessary. 3. Familiarisation with language styles and ensuring language registers are appropriate for the widest possible audience. 4. Familiarisation with local authority / Welsh Government services, terminology and keeping abreast of changes and development in Welsh affairs. 5. Maintain standards of necessary ICT skills for delivery of efficient service. 6. Using specialist dictionaries, thesaurus and reference books to find the closest equivalents for termnology and words used. 7. To provide simultaneous translation services upon request. 8. Providing clients with a gramatically correct, accurate and well expressed final version of the translated text. 9. Keeping abreast of developments in translation, attending training courses, meetings and staff development events as relevant to the field, or as is necessary. 10. Liaise with all services, including senior officers, as and when required to ensure the delivery of an effective service. 11. To gain specialist ICT knowledge to contribute to the delivery of a Welsh medium website with fully devolved Corporate administrative rights from ICT.

3 12. Authorising Welsh content for the Consortium website, mirroring press office responsibilities in case of English content. 13. Respond to the requirements of the new Welsh Language Measure 2011 which institutes equal legal status to both Welsh and English. 14. Advise on Welsh language matters as and when required 15. Providing quotations for translation services offered. 16. The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. A general responsibility to contribute to the successful operation of the Central South Consortium by recognising that the purpose of the Service is to facilitate and support learning in the five Council's. This requires staff to work together in teams and to accept the flexibility to roles to meet changing demands and circumstances is needed to achieve this. To carry out health and safety responsibilities in accordance with the Division s Health & Safety Responsibilities document. To undertake such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade, as may be reasonably required by the Service Director, or as a mutually agreed development opportunity.
