1 JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Web Designer GRADE: Scale 6 RESPONSIBLE TO: Marketing & Communications Manager KEY PURPOSE: To manage, maintain and develop the College s website and online digital channels and to work with the Marketing & Communications Manager to implement innovative and effective online and multi-media marketing activities, in line with the overall strategy. MAIN DUTIES i) Web Maintenance and Development 1. To manage, maintain and develop the College's website through using a Wordpress content management system to edit existing and upload new content. 2. To increase traffic and enrolments via the website through developing and presenting compelling and engaging content that will appeal to a range of target audiences. 3. To manage search engine optimisation to ensure that the College website performs well in search rankings and has a strong online brand presence. 4. To coordinate with other departments to ensure the effective integration of college databases, systems and platforms with the website. 5. To use graphic design programmes including Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign to produce high quality visual assets for use across digital channels. 6. To work with the Graphic Designer to develop and maintain a synergy and brand integrity between print materials and digital channels, including consistent use of imagery. 7. To ensure usability, accessibility, and coding efficiency consistent with current standards, regulations, laws, and trends. To coordinate usability testing to ensure that web services meet the needs of target audiences. 1
2 8. To liaise with internal staff and other relevant stakeholders to manage digital requirements and the implementation of online solutions appropriate to the overall marketing strategy. 9. To keep abreast of online technology and implement new areas/functionality/features on sites. 10. To liaise with external agencies and resources to determine best practice and online protocols. ii) Digital Marketing 1. Maintain and develop the College s social media presence on channels such as Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and others, working with the Marketing Manager and other stakeholders to collate engaging content for population. 2. To coordinate and implement online advertising activity including Google Adwords and other web-based campaigns to ensure marketing messages are delivered and objectives achieved. 3. To work with the Marketing Manager on marketing activities, including the design and execution of campaigns, monitoring and evaluation of effectiveness, and maintenance of accurate distribution lists. iii) Market Research 1. To manage Google Analytics by pulling and analysing metrics to ensure that the customer has the best experience whilst on the site, and to monitor and evaluate the success of web campaigns/pages through tracking conversions. To produce website KPI reports when required. 2. To regularly monitor and benchmark sector-wide digital practices. 3. To monitor and maintain the marketing database and distribution lists. 4. To monitor and manage enquiries received via digital marketing channels. iv) Internal Communications 1. To regularly attend team meetings to support staff to promote their area. 2. To provide professional support for staff to positively promote the College. 3. To encourage staff to put forward copy and images, if appropriate, for use in online media. 4. To reinforce the positive reputation of the Department by adopting a customer focused approach to delivery. To ensure, where appropriate, that marketing activity integrates with internal digital platforms such as the intranet and Oracle.
3 v) General 1. To carry out administrative and other activities as appropriate to the role. 2. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of the College, its offerings and its facilities, in order to deliver relevant design work. 3. To monitor and contribute to the department s photographic library, in liaison with the Graphic Designer and external agencies. 4. The post holder is required to participate in regular Appraisals and all incremental pay awards are dependent on achievement of a good or outstanding Appraisal outcome. 5. To identify skill and personal development needs and undertake any development as identified and agreed with the Communications Manager. 6. To adhere to College Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities Policies and comply with relevant legislation. 7. To undertake any other such duties as may be required of you, commensurate with your grade, at your initial place of work or at any of the other College sites. CRITERIA ESSENTIAL/DESIRAB LE HOW ASSESSED QUALIFICATIONS 1 Must be educated to A-level standard or equivalent. 2 Degree or equivalent professional qualification(s) in a relevant subject for example Web Design or Digital Communications. Desirable & Certificates & Certificates EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE 1 Excellent web-based design skills and proficiency in CMS management (specifically Wordpress, with a basic understanding of Droomla)., Interview & Test 2 Proficiency in backend coding, with HTML and PHP skills., Interview & Test 3 Good general IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 4 Experience of working in a Marketing environment. Desirable 5 Basic photography skills. Desirable
5 SKILLS & COMPETENCIES 1 2 Ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely in an engaging style via digital media channels. An understanding of corporate branding and an ability to work to style guidelines. 3 Excellent social/online media skills (Proficiency in using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube for promotional purposes). 4 Experience in utilising marketing platforms, specifically Mailchimp. PERSONAL QUALITIES 1 Thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work. 2 Exceptional organisational abilities. 3 Ability to cope with rapid and regular change, and to work under pressure with good time management skills. 5 The ability to work as part of a team. OTHER 1 Access to a vehicle as the post may require travel between campuses (Business Insurance must be purchased by the post holder if using their own car). 2 Willingness and interest in working with learners between the ages of 11 and 16 in schools and in College. 3 Commitment to continuing personal professional development. 4 Willingness to work evenings and on rare occasions on weekends if required.
