About the Department Sheffield University Management School, the Faculty of Social Sciences largest department, has achieved accreditation from the three largest and most influential business school associations: AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. Our relocation to a fully refurbished building in June 2013 provides modern facilities in which to achieve our ambitions. We currently employ around 85 academic staff of whom 16 are professors. Academic staff are supported by a comprehensive team of professional administrative staff. Job Role We are seeking to appoint an experienced project manager to join a thriving strategic project change team. Based in the Management School you will be working on range of School and Faculty wide projects. You will possess strong project management skills and experience in order to support a complex range of Department/Faculty projects focussing on enhancement of institutional and Faculty business processes relating to learning and teaching. You will require an excellent understanding of working in a large organisation and will have excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to build effective working relationships and networks within the Faculty and its constituent departments, within the University s professional services, and to liaise with external stakeholders as required. Main Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Project Management Office (PMO) Manager the post holder will: Job Description Provide high quality project management to the PMO Manager and the Associate Dean of Strategic Projects and Planning, deploying a range of project management approaches.

3 Lead on a range of continuous improvement and/or change projects for the Management School or the Faculty of Social Sciences, engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation as well as externally. Plan and execute key phases of a project to deliver agreed strategic objectives. To lead cross-functional project teams to ensure reliable and timely delivery of projects; managing associated resources as appropriate. Using strong collaborative skills to support the creation and effective working of inter disciplinary teams. Development and maintenance of project documentation to include project charters, project plans and risk registers so that projects are delivered successfully using agreed project methodologies. Development and dissemination of communications, using a range of media, relating to projects / work packages. Delivery of regular (monthly) project status reports identifying milestones, end stages, issues and risks as appropriate. To be a project team member, on behalf of the PMO on institutional level projects. Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of post, as agreed by the PMO Manager. Person Specification Applicants should provide evidence in their applications that they meet the following criteria. Criteria Qualifications and experience Essential Desirable 1. Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience). 2. Excellent knowledge and experience of learning and teaching challenges and opportunities within higher education. 3. Experience of leading or being a team member of continuous improvement or change projects with a learning and teaching focus. 4. Experience of process mapping. 5. Appreciation of lean project methodologies and/or Project management qualifications (Prince2 Practitioner). 6. Excellent IT skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and the internet. 7. Visio and/or Microsoft Project working knowledge. Communication skills 8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 9. Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience of communicating with a diverse range of stakeholders both internally and externally. 10. Demonstrable ability to identify and use appropriate project methodologies to ensure project completion and effective communication. Team working 11. Experience of working across department boundaries towards a

4 common goal. 12. Experience of leading small cross functional teams to achieve a project goal. Problem solving and decision making 13. Ability to identify analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer-term implications. 14. Ability to ensure project requirements and success criteria are clearly specified, understood and agreed by project stakeholders. Personal effectiveness 15. Willingness and ability to adapt own skills to new circumstances with flexibility in approaching tasks. 16. Excellent organisation and time management skills to prioritise own workload and work accurately to tight deadlines with minimal supervision. 17. Demonstrable experience of working in a change management environment; being business aware and sensitive to problems and risks inherent in change. 18. Highly motivated and able to work in a professional manner. 19. Experience of developing and maintaining a network of contacts through own work area. 20. Ability to be proactive and a forward thinker.
