1 JO DESCRIPTION POST TITLE: POST REF: REPORTS TO: LEARNING RESOURCES ASSISTANT LRCA3 COMPUTER SERVICES OFFICER DATE: JANUARY 2015 JO PURPOSE: TO ASSIST IN THE DELIVERY OF A HIGH QUALITY COLLEGE LIRARY INFORMATION SERVICE THAT SUPPORTS OUTSTANDING LEARNING AND TEACHING Principal accountabilities 1. Student support and services 1.1 To provide support for students using the LRC for research purposes or accessing IT facilities for the completion of coursework. 1.2 To answer enquiries and offer guidance in person, by phone and via electronic media. 1.3 To facilitate students use of ICT and book based resources. 1.4 To supervise students ensuring high standards of behaviour are maintained. 1.5 To assist students with photocopying, scanning, laminating and binding as required. 1.6 To participate in LRC student induction sessions. 2. Staff support and services 2.1 Provide LRC support for staff in a specified academic section. 2.2 Liaise regarding resource requirements for the section. 2.3 Promote LRC resources, services and facilities to the section. 2.4 Assist section staff with linking to resources from the Virtual Learning Environment as required. 2.5 To introduce new staff to the LRC facilities and services as required. 2.6 Keep LRC staff up to date with key resources for courses in your section. 3. Equality and Diversity 3.1 Keep LRC team up to date with equal opportunities and equality and diversity issues. 3.2 Work with colleagues in the LRC to ensure that equality and diversity issues are effectively promoted within the LRC, and that the LRC participates in cross-college events. 3.3 Work with colleagues in the LRC to assess whether we could make our systems and services more accessible to some of our customers. 3.4 Ensure that the LRC has suitable resources to help college staff promote equality and diversity within the curriculum and more widely. 3.5 Ensure that the College s Multi Faith Room is safe and tidy, and that the correct times for Muslim prayer are displayed in the Multi Faith Room. 4. LRC environment 4.1 To assist in maintaining the LRC environment to a high standard 4.2 To identify and either fix or report any health and safety hazards. 4.3 To help keep the LRC clean and tidy and to encourage students to do the same.

2 4.4 To contribute ideas for developing an engaging learning environment; and to produce displays as required. 5. LRC Resources & Administration 5.1 To identify maintenance issues with books and computers, and action accordingly. 5.2 Assist in recommending materials for purchase. 5.3 To catalogue, process and cover new resources. 5.4 The issue and return of books, laptops and other resources to students and staff and associated procedures. 5.5 To participate in stocktaking and other stock maintenance routines. 5.6 To produce subject resource lists for all subjects in November, January and April and make these available. To produce specific resource lists on request. 5.7 To ensure that the LRC service points and administrative areas are equipped with paper and stationery. To liaise with the LRC manager regarding the purchasing of stationery. 6. MyPC & LRC laptops 6.1 Regularly check laptops to ensure that they are in good condition. 6.2 Ensure that laptops are labelled and that the labels are in good condition. 6.3 Update MyPC computer booking system settings to accommodate term times, College holidays and College initial assessments. 6.4 Review computer bookings that are not taken up, follow up with persistent offenders. Report take up ratios and any problems to the LRC Computer Services Officer. 6.5 Produce monthly Computer Centre usage reports and report to the LRC Computer Services Officer. 6.6 Contribute ideas for and participate in the development of the use of the MyPC system. 7. Participate in the College s Performance Review and Staff Appraisal system. 8. Such other duties as may be required by the College and are within the level and responsibility appropriate to the grade of the post. GENERAL EHAVIOURS 1. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Canterbury College Scheme of Conditions of Service 37 hours per week, Established Post Salary grade: 16,276-17,810, per annum This post involves regular evening work and occasional weekend work.
