2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE This sponsorship packet for the Mid Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will provide you with information on various sponsorship opportunities with our organization. In addition to personal stories that call attention to the debilitating effects of MS and the need for research and support for those affected, this packet offers Central Florida businesses/corporations support for our signature events and programs. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, degenerative disease of the central nervous system that typically targets adults between the ages of 20 to 50 affecting more than twice as many women as men. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the United States, and 2.5 million worldwide. The severity of symptoms varies greatly among individuals, but the common result is that whatever form symptoms take, people with MS are vulnerable to the unexpected, which makes moving forward in life difficult. Our call-to-action, Join the Movement, is designed to raise public awareness of the fact that MS robs people of the ability to move, disabling some, and that action is needed to raise funds for research while improving the quality of life and independence of those living with MS. This is no easy task and would not be possible without the generous support of our donors and volunteers. 3 What is Bike MS? Bike MS is the largest organized cycling series in the United States featuring over 100 individual rides and 75,000 participants. For the past five years, the Bike MS ride has become the Mid Florida Chapter s largest fundraising event and has generated over $4.5 million dollars since 2008, helping fund local programs and services for those affected by MS and supporting research toward a cure for MS. What is MS? Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease that attacks the nervous system and interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and stops people from moving. For some, this means living with unpredictable symptoms that can come and go, like numbness and blurred vision. For others, permanent damage such as blindness and paralysis occurs. Approximately 400,000 Americans have a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Every week, about 200 people are diagnosed. The Mid Florida Chapter serves more than 70,000 people affected by MS in 23 counties. By becoming an official 2013 Bike MS: The Citrus Tour sponsor, companies are able to increase community visibility. Throughout the year, the Mid Florida Chapter will promote the event and your company in a number of ways including broadcast commercials, feature stories in print and broadcast, radio PSA s, radio interviews and print advertising. In addition to media exposure, more traditional promotional activities will occur through 15,000 brochures distributed across Central Florida, thousands of posters and promotional trading cards, t-shirts, website exposure, recognition on social media sites, on-site signage, etc. With all of these publications and marketing collateral prior to the event, we are able to reach tens of thousands of people. The Mid Florida Chapter of the National MS Society is fortunate to have dedicated people like you who provide the much-needed support to raise awareness and funds in the fight against MS. Funds received through Bike MS: The Citrus Tour can provide the following for people with MS and their families: $1-$20: Leg positioner, Handheld Shower or Knee Splint $20-$50: Tub Grab Rail, Ankle Orthosis, Walker, and the gift to sponsor an individual to participate in an educational program $50-$100: Bedside Commode, Shower Seat or Tub Transfer Bench $100-$500: 3ft or 5ft Aluminum Ramp, Forearm Crutches, Air Conditioning Unit or Membership to an Exercise Therapy Class $500-$1,000: Voice Activated Phone System, Hand Controls for Automobile or Manual Wheelchair $10,000+: Electric Wheelchair, Stair Lift or Electrical Hospital Bed JOIN THE MOVEMENT
