About SPLA Since 1937, the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) has provided resources, recognition, and networking opportunities for public administration officials and academia communities across the United States and globally. The Section on Public Law and Administration (SPLA) is a specialized section of ASPA, chartered in 2001, and focuses on engaging public law and administration within communities with annual networking and award events. Mission To engage in the development of the relationship between law and administration in order to invigorate public management and government performance. Annual Event SPLA Purple Carpet Affair This dinner program and networking event will address pressing public law and administration issues in the annual conference state locale. Rohr Scholarship SPLA enacted the John A. Rohr Scholarship in 2012 and presents this award annually in honor of its namesake who has contributed to the fields of public administration and political science, leading scholars and practitioners to a greater understanding of how law affects public administration and the responsibilities of public administrators in their jobs as implementers of the Constitution. Each year, the $ scholarship enables one graduate student to pursue development of practice and research in the field of public administration and law while simultaneously attending ASPA s annual conference for exposure to other practitioners, academic and students. SPLA 2015 Silent Auction, Chicago, IL SPLA Purple Carpet Affair THEME Our evening will encompass Social Justice that will be discussed by Keynote Speaker, Dr. Susan T. Gooden who authored Race and Social Equity: A Nervous Area of Government. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Susan T. Gooden, PhD, is a Professor of Public Administration and Policy and Executive Director of the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She has published books, scholarly articles, book chapters, and technical reports in the areas of social equity, welfare policy, and postsecondary education. Dr. Gooden will be the first African American female ASPA President beginning April PURPLE CARPET INTERVIEW During the VIP Champagne Social Hour, Dr. Susan T. Gooden will be interviewed live on the Purple Carpet concerning social justice issues specifically how it relates to Seattle and other communities. We need sponsors for this event to be a success!
