1 Dear Friend, This year marks the 76 th Anniversary of the March of Dimes. In addition, this year also serves as the 5 th March of Dimes Annual Nurse of the Year Awards, which will be held Thursday, September 25 th at the Petroleum Club in beautiful downtown Oklahoma City. The Nurse of the Year Awards is a state-wide event that will recognize exceptional nurses, create awareness of professional excellence and promote the future of the nursing profession. Categories will vary from Advanced Practice to Hospice and Palliative Care and many others. The finalists will be honored at this special, evening gala. Nurses play a vital role in our society and are the unsung heroes of the health care provider community. We are proud to honor the work they do. Our goal is to raise $100,000. This year I am pleased to be the Chair, and I am writing to ask for your support. Your contribution will help us to further our mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The March of Dimes is one of the most respected and well known non-profit organizations in the country, leading the way to healthy pregnancies, healthy mothers and healthy babies. As a non-profit organization, it is the dedication of hundreds of volunteers, organizations and fine businesses such as yours, that make it possible to achieve success. The funds we raise go toward research, education and advocacy to help ensure that every baby is born healthy. I hope you will help us to make a difference with a contribution. 3 What: Nurse of the Year Awards is an elegant awards event and fundraiser that brings together the health care community to recognize nursing excellence and achievements in research, education, quality patient care, innovation and leadership. Eighteen awards will be presented to the most outstanding nurse within each category. Event Details: The 5th Annual March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards event is to take place on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Petroleum Club, Oklahoma City. Chaired by Jamie Kilpatrick, Director, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, The Children s Hospital at OU Medical Center, the event will feature a silent auction, seated dinner and awards ceremony. How are Nurses Selected? Nurses are first nominated by peers, nurse managers, supervisors or even the families they have impacted. Following, each nurse is asked to submit an application to be considered. Each application is carefully reviewed and scored by top ranking officials in the nursing community Nurse of the Year Highlights: 21 events across the country, raising $1.5 Million and honoring over 6,000 nurses! 405 nurses nominated from 22 health care facilities throughout Oklahoma 75 Nurse Finalists from 19 health care facilities throughout Oklahoma Over $50,000 raised in support the March of Dimes Mission
