OUR WORK Komen San Diego is fighting every minute of every day to finally, once and for all, finish what we started and achieve our vision of the world without breast cancer. Until we do, we continue to fund the County s largest program of free breast cancer treatments, services and support. Next to the U.S. government, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the largest funder of breast cancer research in the world. FULFILLING THE PROMISE Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became reality and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen is the world s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Komen has invested nearly $1.5 billion since to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. BREAST CANCER: THEN AND NOW Since 1982, Komen has fueled every major advance in the fight against breast cancer, transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. Komen San Diego is the only organization in San Diego County that exclusively addresses the fight against breast cancer on all levels. We have one clear mission: saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. We save lives by funding: Free diagnostic services for women without insurance Help with life expenses, medical expenses, rent, food, meal delivery, child care and transportation Public awareness and education about breast cancer issues Support for women diagnosed with cancer who are enrolled in treatment programs Research to discover and deliver the cures 25% goes to medical research $6.4M to international research 75% stays in San Diego $18.4M for local education, screening and treatment Komen San Diego Contributions EARLY DETECTION 5-YR SURVIVAL RATE % of women over 40 now receive regular mammograms 95% when caught early before it spreads beyond the breast 1982 less than 30% 74% RESEARCH the federal govement devotes $900M/yr to research, treatment and prevention $30M 2.9 million breast cancer survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S.

4 GET INVOLVED EVENTS ANNUAL RECOGNITION AND AWARDS APR 2014 This evening of gratitude and recognition features a special celebration and the Komen San Diego Awards Program. In attendance will be our Partners in the Promise, major donors, Race sponsors, Komen Grantees, the Komen Board of Directors and Volunteer Committee Members, plus a selected group of committed friends and partners. BREAST CANCER CONFERENCE/SYMPOSIUM* JUN 2014 This breast cancer conference will update the community on the current state of breast cancer in San Diego County, covering the latest discoveries in research and sharing information about women s health and concerns of survivorship. Hosted by a local celebrity, breakout sessions will be offered. The evening will culminate in a cocktail hour. SPONSORSHIP LEVELS: $1,000 - $25,000 BOWL FOR THE CURE* JUL 2014 This family-oriented event at bowling alleys across San Diego County is an afternoon filled with family fun, jamming music and good old-fashioned bowling! Our guests will be wearing their most fabulous pink attire and take part in a series of bowling games all in the name of breast cancer. At each bowling alley, we will have a silent auction and an opportunity drawing for our guests. SPONSORSHIP LEVELS: $100 - $7,000 DINE OUT FOR THE CURE* AUG 2014 Dine Out for the Cure unites local restaurants with Komen supporters across the entire county. Participating restaurants pledge a percentage of their day s dining business to support San Diego County s largest program of free breast cancer treatments, services and support for uninsured breast cancer patients and their families. There are three ways a restaurant can participate: pledge 20% (with a $250 minimum per location); 35% (with a $500 minimum per location); or 50% (with a $1,000 minimum per location). The program is supported through heavy marketing both mass and social media and in-home communications. SPONSORSHIP LEVELS: $1,000 - $5,000 DINE OUT FOR THE CURE ROW FOR THE CURE* SUN OCT 26, 2014 Susan G. Komen San Diego, together with the UCSD Women s Crew, hosts the annual Komen San Diego Row for the Cure at San Diego s beautiful North Ski Beach on Mission Bay. This event is open to all human-propelled watercraft! It attracts nearly 1,000 participants and more than 2,000 spectators. It s fun in the sun and sand. SPONSORSHIP LEVELS: $500 - $2,500 RACE FOR THE CURE* SUN NOV 2, 2014 The Komen San Diego Race for the Cure is an annual 5k fun run/walk that attracts nearly 20,000 people to its stunning location in San Diego s beautiful Balboa Park. The 20,000 attendees not only walk to save lives, they participate in an outstanding Race Expo experience that includes vendor booths with food and beverage product sampling, company information and services, live entertainment and more. The day is about awareness, education and, most importantly, about celebrating life. As a sponsor of the race, you build consumer loyalty and strengthen employee morale made by branding yourself as a company that gives back to the community.
