2 About Beaches Fine Arts Series Concert Series Since 1972, Beaches Fine Arts Series has offered people of North Florida the chance to enjoy world-class music and dance in eight or nine free performances annually, all for free. At least once per season, we bring extraordinary artists to larger venues west of the Intracoastal for the annual Beach Meets West program, introducing a wider audience to the unique series. BFAS programming encompasses an eclectic blend of styles from classical to contemporary, jazz to world music and dance, and traditional to avant-garde. As a tribute to the excellence in programming, BFAS is the only series in the greater Jacksonville metropolitan area to be recorded by and featured on the National Public Radio series, Performance Today, produced by American Public Media. Receptions & Art Exhibits Following each of our concerts, local community organizations host a reception in honor of the performers, where the audience may meet and chat with them. At the reception we present an art exhibit featuring the work of visual artists from all over the region. Our community hosts include, churches, philanthropic and service organizations, and other arts organizations. Educational Outreach Artists who perform on our series also perform educational outreach workshops for thousands of students in North Florida. We target schools whose funding has limited the arts exposure all children should have, but many do not. We pay for bus transportation to and from the concerts, where children are entertained and have an opportunity to ask questions of the artists.once per year, we host an artist or group for an entire week in an extended residency. Specific and appropriate schools are selected to receive the artists in their classrooms for in-depth study. Activity books and lesson plans are produced for the teachers to relate art and music with core academic subjects. About BFAST Triathlons BFAST Triathlon is a Swim, Bike & Run which encompasses 3 Sprint Distance s and an Olympic Distance sanctioned by USA Triathlon that occur in the months of May, June and July, and are held at Naval Station Mayport. Over 500 registrants compete in each. In 1986, Beaches Fine Arts Series established the Beaches Fine Arts Sprint Triathlon Series (BFAST) in an effort to raise funds for the free music series and educational outreach programs offered to residents and students of North Florida. BFAS is now preparing to celebrate the 29th Season of the triathlon series in BFAST Kids Triathlon is a Swim, Bike & Run sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is held each year at Nocatee's new Junior Olympic Pool at the wonderful Aquatics Center. Over 500 registrants compete in this. Beaches Fine Arts Series is thrilled to add this most exciting and worthy as another permanent addition to the BFAS Racing portfolio. BFAST Kids is intended to introduce young athletes to the exciting world of triathlons and community support.
