3 1. EchCenter fr Students What is an EchCenter page? Yur EchCenter page is a launch pad fr recrded lectures and a dashbard which prvides: A listing f each Ech fr the class, with details abut the Ech. Lists "ther" Eches. Sme f these are future class meetings. In time, each f the future class meetings becmes a link t an Ech. Allws yu t access live webcasts (when enabled). Nt all classes include live webcasts. Shws the curse ntes (bkmarks) yu have added t Eches yu've already viewed. Each bkmark links t the scene in the Ech. Shws recent chat and discussin activity fr the class. Each discussin item links t the scene in the Ech. Hw D I Get t My EchCenter Page? Upn lgin t vuws ( and selecting yur curse, navigate t the EchCenter link n the left within the curse menu area. (See belw image) If yu have issues in lcating the EchCenter link, firstly check with yur lecturer and ensure yur curse is slated fr lecture recrding. 4 2. Guided Tur f an EchCenter Page Overview Yur EchCenter page shuld lk similar t the figure shwn belw. Each numbered item is described in the sectins belw.

5 ID Pane (1-3) 1. The class cvered by this EchCenter page. Yu may als see a ntice f the next recrding r live webcast, as shwn belw. A Jin buttn appears shrtly befre the scheduled webcast time. 2. The Ech360 lg. The UWS lg will appear n the left side f the windw. 3. Link t nline help. Curse Bkmarks Pane (4) The pane: Shws any curse ntes (bkmarks) yu added recently t any Ech in the class. T see the curse ntes (bkmarks) yu added fr a specific Ech, select the Ech and click the curse ntes (bkmarks) tab. Lets yu jump t the curse nte (bkmark). Clicking n the curse nte (bkmark) pens the Ech at the relevant scene. T make curse ntes (bkmarks) appear in this pane, add a bkmark t an Ech while yu are watching it in the EchPlayer. Click the Bkmarks buttn (shwn belw). Bkmarks help yu: Tag imprtant parts f the Ech, allwing yu t quickly navigate t a certain pint Serve as brief curse ntes, ffering an verview f what was cvered in a particular lecture Yu see nly the bkmarks yu added.

6 Best Practice: Add Many Bkmarks Add bkmarks liberally as yu review an Ech. When yu are studying fr an exam, yu'll find the bkmarks a handy index t the Ech and t the class. Yu might want t use a key phrase (such as "EXAM QUESTION") if an Instructr has indicated that a particular cncept is imprtant. Recent Activity Pane (5) This pane: Shws recent discussins that ccurred in any Ech in the class. T see the discussins fr a specific Ech, select the Ech and click the Discussins tab. Lets yu jin the discussin. Clicking n the discussin link pens the Ech at the relevant scene. Why Aren't There Links t the Mst Recent Ech Here? The Recent Activity sectin lists the mst recent discussins that ccurred in any Ech fr this class. If the mst recent Ech did nt elicit any discussin, n discussin link is listed. Discussins smetimes ccur as yu and yur classmates review the Ech. As yu submit discussins tpics, they are listed in this pane. Discussins appear in this pane, when yu, the Instructr, r anther class member adds a discussin tpic while watching an Ech. Click the Discussins buttn (shwn belw).

7 Eches List (6) As the schl year prgresses, the list f Eches can becme lng and unwieldy. The Available/Other and Mst Recent/Least Recent drp-dwn lists help yu rganise the list f Eches. Select the Available ptin t see a list f Eches that have been prcessed. Srt the list with the Mst Recent/Least Recent drp-dwn list. Select the Other ptin t see a list f: Eches still being prcessed. Scheduled recrdings. Eches that are marked Nt Available. If yu are curius abut an Ech marked Nt Available, ask yur Instructr r Teaching Assistant (TA). Eches can be unavailable fr a variety f reasns: Yur Instructr may have marked an Ech as unavailable while it is being reviewed r fr anther reasn A class meeting may nt have been captured because f a pwer utage r ther malfunctin An example f the Other list is shwn belw. The Other list cntains the fllwing ptins and infrmatin: 1. Available/Other drpdwn list. Allws fr tggling between the Available Eches and Other Eches 2. Hide Unavailable/Shw Unavailable drp-dwn list. This cntrl shrtens the list by hiding unavailable Eches. Eches can be unavailable fr a variety f reasns: The Instructr may have marked an Ech as unavailable A class meeting may nt have been captured because f a pwer utage r ther malfunctin 3. The number f Eches in the list. 4. The status f any Eches listed. This may shw that the Ech is being prcessed r that the class meeting was nt captured. Mst class meetings are captured and becme available as Eches, s it is helpful t see this case explicitly nted.

8 Individual Ech Listed (7) Select an Ech in the list t reveal additinal details abut that specific Ech. Launch Ech Buttn (8) Click this buttn t launch the Ech. Tabs Selectin (9) Select a specific Ech frm the Curse Eches list, then select ne f the tabs t get further details abut the Ech. Infrmatin Tab The Infrmatin tab is shwn belw. Frm this tab yu can: See the type f Ech (usually "Lecture") See the duratin f the Ech Dwnlad Pdcast r Vdcast versins Read a descriptin f the Ech if yur Instructr included ne Discussins Tab The Discussins tab is shwn belw. Frm this tab, yu can: See discussins that have ccurred fr the specific Ech. Jin discussins. Click n the discussins link.

9 Curse Bkmarks Tab The Curse Bkmarks tab is shwn belw. Frm this tab yu can: See the curse ntes (bkmarks) yu have added in the Ech. Open the Ech at the bkmarked scene. Click n the curse nte (bkmark). The date belw the bkmark is the date yu added the bkmark t the Ech. It is nt the date f the class. Preferences Buttn When yu click an Ech icn n the EchCenter page, yu want t jump right int the Ech. Yu dn't want t be bthered with technical specificatins. Hwever, the EchPlayer needs t knw certain details in rder t display the Ech in the best way fr yu. Click the Preferences buttn t cnfigure yur preferred bandwidth and theme. These specificatins will be used fr every Ech yu launch. Fllw these steps: 1. Click the Preferences buttn. 2. The Preferences dialg bx appears as shwn in the fllwing figure. 3. The display name is the name ther students and yur Instructr see when yu are chatting and asking questins in the EchPlayer. T change yur display name, fllw these steps: 1. Click anywhere n the display name ("Thmas Skelding" in this example). The display name becmes an editable field as shwn in the figure. 2. Edit the name. We recmmend that yu enter yur

10 actual name s ther students and yur Instructr can identify yu. 3. Click the check mark t save the edited name. Click the X t cancel any changes. 4. Select yur preferred EchPlayer theme. The Dark and Light themes cntrl the backgrund f the Ech The Screen Reader theme is ptimised fr the visually-impaired 5. Select yur preferred cnnectin speed. The cnnectin speed that can be supprted depends n the quality f yur netwrk. We recmmend chsing the default, Aut-Select. Theme and Cnnectin Settings Affect the EchPlayer nt the EchCenter The theme and cnnectins settings affect the appearance and perfrmance f the EchPlayer but have n effect n the EchCenter. 6. Mve yur cursr away frm the dialg bx. The bx disappears. Yur changes have been saved.

11 3. Frequently Asked Questins What d I d first? 1. D these tasks the first time yu pen the EchCenter page fr a curse: 1. Cnfigure the settings. See Preferences abve. 2. Add a bkmark t it. Fllw the instructins fr yur brwser. 2. Each time yu pen an EchCenter page, glance first at the curse title in the tp left crner. Make sure yu've pened the EchCenter page fr the crrect curse. I clicked the "Upcming Recrding" title and nthing happened. Why nt? The upcming recrding is the next Ech that will be psted. It isn't a link because it hasn't been psted yet. When the Ech is psted, yu will see it at the tp f the Curse Eches list. The upcming recrding is typically the same as the next class meeting. Smetimes I see a "Jin Live" buttn and smetimes nt. What's happening? The next scheduled event (either a live webcast r a typical class meeting) shws at the tp f the EchCenter page. If the next scheduled meeting is a live webcast, yu see the Live buttn, which allws yu t jin a live webcast 15 minutes befre the scheduled time. If the next scheduled event is a typical class meeting, yu see the "Upcming Recrding" banner. Sme curses r events always include a live webcast, sme include a live webcast ccasinally (when the weather is bad r when a well-knwn persn is presenting), sme curses are never webcast live. What d the "Shw Unavailable" and "Hide Unavailable" buttns mean? An Ech may be marked "unavailable" fr a variety f reasns, fr example: Yur Instructr, may have marked an Ech as unavailable A class meeting may nt have been captured because f a pwer utage r ther malfunctin If yu are curius abut an Ech marked Nt Available, ask yur Instructr r Teaching Assistant (TA) If yu are scanning a lng list f Eches, yu can shrten the list by hiding unavailable Eches.
