1 Creating a Wired Hme Netwrk with a Linksys Ruter and a Fujitsu SpeedPrt Mdem Nte: These directins assume yu have installed yur Fujitsu SpeedPrt mdem, and yu can cnnect t the Internet thrugh yur mdem. The first step in the prcess f installing yur Linksys ruter is t discnnect yur Fujitsu SpeedPrt mdem. 1. Shut dwn and pwer ff yur cmputer. 2. Verify that the ruter pwer crd is plugged in t an utlet and that the Pwer light n the ruter is n (green). 3. Discnnect the mdem Ethernet cable frm the back f yur cmputer. 2 Verizn Online After yu have discnnected yur mdem, the next step is t cnnect yur ruter. 4. Plug the Ethernet cable yu remved frm the cmputer in the previus step int the WAN prt n the back f the ruter. It shuld nw be cnnected t yur ruter and the mdem. Rear view f the Linksys BEFSR41 Series Ruter 5. Using a new Ethernet cable, plug ne end int ne f the numbered prts n the back f the ruter (1-4 r 1-8, depending n the mdel). 6. Plug the ther end f the new Ethernet cable int the back f yur cmputer (where the cable cming frm the mdem was previusly plugged in). Verify that yu have gd cnnectins between yur cmputer, ruter, and mdem by checking the status lights n the mdem and ruter. 7. Pwer n the cmputer. 8. Check the status lights n the mdem and n the ruter. Open a web brwser like Internet Explrer r Netscape n yur cmputer. 10. Enter in the Address field. 11. Press [Enter]. 12. 4 Verizn Online 13. Click OK. 14. Verify that the Setup tab is selected in the Linksys windw. 15. Select PPPE frm the drp-dwn list in the Select the Internet cnnectin type yu wish t use field. 16. Enter yur Verizn Username and Passwrd at the prmpt. 17. Select yur Internet cnnectin type: Select Cnnect n Demand if yu want the ruter cnnected nly when needed. 5 Verizn Online Nte: If yu select this ptin, the ruter autmatically re-establishes the cnnectin when yu access the Internet. Select Keep Alive if yu want the ruter always cnnected t the Internet. Enter the amunt f time between re-dial attempts if the ruter becmes discnnected. 18. Click Apply. 19. Click Cntinue t return t the Setup screen. After yu've entered the infrmatin int the fields n the Setup tab, it's imprtant t verify the status f yur ruter. 20. Select the Status tab. 6 Verizn Online 21. Verify that "Cnnected" displays as the status. If "Discnnected" displays, click Cnnect. 22. Clse yur web brwser and then repen it t apply the new settings. The final step is t test yur hme netwrk cnnectins by verifying yur cnnectivity t the Internet. 23. Duble-click n the Internet Explrer icn n yur desktp r pen any Web brwser. 24. Enter in the Address field t verify that yu can cnnect t the Internet. 25.
