2 Position Title Donor Relations Manager Location Brisbane Work Unit Fundraising Unit Employment Status Part Time (4 days/week) Position Reports To Chief Development Officer (CDO) Positions Responsible For Not applicable Date of Approval 27/11/13 Organisational Context / Environment Diabetes Queensland is an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with, or at risk of, diabetes. Funding for the organisation is through membership subscriptions and donations, grant funding as Queensland Agent for National Diabetes Services Scheme, Queensland Government and other stakeholders and through sponsors and fundraising. As a not-for-profit organisation, we strive to attract committed and hardworking employees who support a community-minded approach to implementing key activities. We are proud that our staff share this philosophy and are committed to contributing a number of volunteer days across the calendar year to deliver the organisation s mission and key goals. Purpose of Position The Donor Relations Manager will be an integral part of the fundraising team and will work to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors with a capacity to give at the $10,000 level and above. Drive growth through effective Major Gift and Bequest development strategies so Diabetes Queensland can provide appropriate services to benefit all people in Queensland with diabetes. Under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Donor Relations Manager will develop, establish and manage Diabetes Queensland s major giving programs and bequest programs. The Donor Relations Manager will be expected to create and then steward a significant portfolio of major gift and bequest donors.
3 Duties and Responsibilities The Donor Relations Manager s duties and responsibilities include: Manage a portfolio of potential or existing major donors and bequestors, from identification to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship o Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure donors information and other needs are met, including defining projects, developing campaign collateral, identifying and cultivating prospects, soliciting gifts and stewarding relationships o Liaise with all areas across Diabetes Queensland, its Leadership and Executive Management Team to target and research prospective bequest donors, establish relationships for potential memorial and major and other gifts, and ensure appropriate stewardship, acknowledgement and recognition of donors. Work with development team to set ambitious and attainable goals, create strategies and campaigns, create, implement and report on strategies, including: o Establish and manage a pipeline of bequest enquirers, intenders and confirmed bequestors, including maintaining accurate records. o Maintain relations with prospective and confirmed bequestors, ensuring acknowledgement and strong stewardship. o Be the point of contact for supporters and members who are interested in, or are in the process of leaving a bequest to Diabetes Queensland and to support them in the process of leaving a gift in their Will. o Liaise with solicitors and other third parties to ensure the effective and timely administration of estates and the keeping of accurate documentation regarding wills and estates. o Perform data analysis and monitor progress against targets in order to formally report on a regular basis. 4 Reporting Relationships While the Donor Relations Manager reports to the Chief Development Officer the incumbent is expected to act autonomously in prioritising tasks, requiring the ability to plan workflows and develop appropriate procedures to balance competing demands. The incumbent will operate within ATO / ACNC and Diabetes Queensland policies and guidelines. Judgement and Problem Solving Drawing on a combination of fundraising knowledge and experience, develop policies and procedures that best meet the needs of Diabetes Queensland s Major Giving and Bequests Program. Key External Relationships Current and prospective major donors, bequestors and next of kin Members of Diabetes Queensland Solicitors, Accountants, Financial Advisors and other advisory organisations Trustee Companies Funeral Directors Service Organisations and Community Groups Key Selection Criteria Essential 1. Minimum three years experience working in a fundraising team for a charitable organisation. 2. Tertiary qualification in a related field, or equivalent fundraising training and/or knowledge. 3. Outstanding consultation, collaborative networking, negotiation and problem solving skills and the ability to develop and maintain high quality relationships with various constituencies; 4. Extensive knowledge of policies rules and regulations governing charitable giving, including state and federal laws relating to information practices, bequests, charitable organisations, and the tax benefits of charitable giving. 5. Available to travel (interstate??) to meet with current and prospective major gift and bequest donors. 6. Possess and maintain a current class C drivers licence.
5 Desirable 1. Demonstrated high level fundraising success in major gifts and/or bequests. 2. Knowledge and understanding of contemporary human resource and workplace health and safety issues and their application in the workplace. 3. Proven ability in a major gift and/or bequest development role. 4. Qualification, and / or relevant experience including more than five years of fundraising (Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential will be highly regarded) and / or business development or relationship management experience; Additional Factors Key to your success in this role will be your ability to establish, promote, and manage our major gift and bequests development programs. Additional Information The incumbent to the position will be required to: Occasionally work non-standard hours Occasionally travel intra and interstate Occasionally volunteer at out-of-hours events It is expected that the incumbent of the position will give full commitment, support and actively participate in achieving the strategic directions of Diabetes Queensland as the organisation and staff adapt to a new and dynamic operating environment. This includes the flexibility to accept changes and additions to specified duties which will evolve as a result.
