1 Senior Manager of Direct Marketing and Communications Engineers Without Borders Canada is a vibrant community working to create fundamental change toward access to safe water and economic opportunity for all. The Senior Manager of Direct Marketing and Communications will lead the strategic development, management, and delivery of EWB s individual giving programs - both through traditional direct marketing and through innovative membership engagement campaigning. It is a full time position, based out of the Toronto office and reporting to the CEO. Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the role are distributed in three mutually reinforcing domains: Direct Marketing (50%), Membership engagement (30%) and Communications (20%). Direct Marketing - For Direct Marketing, you will have free reign to experiment, take an entrepreneurial stance on finding effective ways to engage a new generation of individual donors. You will own your budget, make hiring decisions, and hire contractors and service providers as needed to deliver results. Deliver a best- in- class direct response program by creating new strategies and tactics that drive one- time and monthly revenues for EWB. This includes ensuring the effective planning and management of annual direct response programs - completing a strategic plan, detailed analysis, solid strategies and tactics and accurate reporting in order to maximize results.
2 Create a multi- year fundraising strategy and provide monthly executive report on fundraising activities, giving trends, priority shifts, and new ideas and plans for growth. Develop a budget annually and track it, adapt and manage budget risk. Prioritize digital opportunities that support the organization s strategic growth plan and revenue objectives. Drive innovation and create a competitive advantage online by creating and delivering an effective digital program that maximizes revenue potential for the organization and builds a community of engaged donors. Develop the pipeline for individual giving programs. Guide the development of our Salesforce database and link with service providers to ensure that proper information is in place to solicit and steward donors effectively and efficiently. Maximize net revenue by managing campaign costs and tracking budgets associated with all programs managed. Focus efforts to deliver results. Make strategic recommendations based on insights derived from program results and from the analysis of donor activity and trends in the sector. Manage external agencies/contractors in the delivery of direct marketing programs by developing communication and revenue objectives, providing strategic direction, approving copy and creative, and facilitating required donor data. Ensure data capture and analysis/reporting systems of the direct response programs are in place and that a standard set of reports are developed and respected. Provide knowledge of giving trends to Partnerships team and executives, make the most of emerging technologies, and innovate on tactics to help grow our individual fundraising programs. Membership Engagement - In membership engagement, you will support our Community team to ignite a network of distributed fundraisers. You will act as a role model and support the actions of passionate individuals. You will design ways to engage distributed teams into peer- to- peer type fundraising efforts. Work together with EWB chapters and EWB Community team on direct response programs. Leverage EWB s network of 40 Chapters to support distributed fundraising strategies. Inspire a culture of philanthropy and fundraising within staff and chapters. Communications - In Communications, you will provide oversight and management to a dedicated Communications team that is positioned as a service provider to other office teams : Fundraising
3 (Major Gift, Foundations, Corporate, Government, Direct Marketing) ; Advocacy ; Community ; Africa Investments. Provide mentorship and management to our Communications Coordinator Execute on the delivery and relaunch of EWB s new website (expected late 2016) Support EWB teams in developing marketing collateral As a member of EWB s management team, you will be expected to attend EWB staff meetings and events, and attend EWB leadership and executive team meetings when appropriate. Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in the field of Direct Response and Communications. Experience in membership organisations an asset. Demonstrated track record of providing strategic direction in the development and implementation of targeted multi- channel direct marketing campaigns that include mail, online, , social, telephone and peer- to- peer. Demonstrated track record of providing strategic direction in the development and implementation of one- time and monthly giving. Demonstrated success leading agencies/contractors in the delivery of direct marketing fundraising programs. Demonstrated success providing corporate giving and partnership opportunities in direct marketing fundraising programs. Strong understanding of SalesForce or similar CRM. Post- secondary education in a relevant discipline, preferably in Marketing, Communications, or Fund Development. Superior knowledge of marketing and donor relations best practices and data segmentation techniques. Strong data analysis skills and confidence in building strategy informed by data. Demonstrated record of problem- solving and priority- setting in a fast paced, complex and evolving environment. Effective at developing positive work relations including the ability to influence without authority. Openness to being challenged, excited to join a team where personal development and honest and genuine peer feedback and support are the norm. Ability to think and plan within a strategic marketing framework.
4 Ability to prioritize, manage details and execute with excellence. Ability to effectively develop strong cross- functional partnerships, evidenced by a track record of teamwork and collegiality. Ability to mobilize others, inspire confidence, build trust and followership. Knowledge of Google Apps, and other relevant software programs. Fired up by EWB s cause tackling old challenges in a new way, and passionate to make a difference. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work in French is an asset.
