2 NB3 FOUNDATION JOB DESCRIPTION Development and Marketing Director POSITION: CLASSIFICATION: SALARY: LOCATION: Development and Marketing Director Exempt/Full- Time Competitive Salary plus benefits Headquarters: Santa Ana Pueblo, NM (Albuquerque Metro Area) ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND NB3 Foundation (NB3F), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the only national Native American nonprofit organization solely dedicated to reversing Native American childhood obesity and type- 2 diabetes. NB3F is setting a national standard for investing in evidence- based, community- driven and culturally relevant programs that prevent childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes, ensuring healthy futures for Native American children and their communities. Since its launch in 2005, NB3F has grown its reputation and track record in Indian Country in the areas of grant making, research, evaluation, direct programming and policy advocacy. NB3F invests in and works closely with grass- roots, Native- led organizations across the country that are exploring promising new practices, expanding proven methods, conducting community- based research, and evaluating impact. We are also actively involved in building and supporting regional and national networks engaged in research and policy development. NB3F is funded by foundations, tribes, and individuals. We achieve change through our network of partnering organizations and individuals across Indian Country dedicated to improving Native child wellbeing. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development and Marketing Director is responsible for the management, development and coordination of the Research, Development and Marketing Department (RDM). The RDM Department is responsible for aligning and achieving the overarching fundraising and marketing activities with the vision, mission and goals of the Foundation. The Development and Marketing Director will support the Executive Director and will work closely with the NB3F team to identify and cultivate major individual donor prospects, grow the annual giving program, secure sponsorships for events, develop corporate support, and manage grantmaking. The Development and Marketing Director will also assist in the planning, development, and submission of foundation proposals and oversee fundraising, donor, and prospect data management. The Development and Marketing Director will be responsible for helping grow the department, including hiring and managing future RDM staff. 1

3 This position demands creativity and experience to motivate staff, board members, and volunteers engaged in donor stewardship, as well as the ability to cultivate the support of sophisticated donors. This position requires knowledge of donor development, corporate giving, and philanthropy. This position also requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must be able to efficiently produce well- written work under tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, manage many details proficiently, and converse easily in person or by telephone with donors and donor prospects. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: STRATEGY Working directly with the Executive Director and the senior leadership team, help assess organizational performance against the annual operations budget, revenue and the Foundation s long- term strategy; Develop tools and systems to provide critical resource development and operational information to the Executive Director and make actionable recommendations on strategy and operations to achieve short and long- term resource development goals; Engage the Executive Director and Board around issues, trends, and changes in resource development strategies, operating approaches and operational delivery methods and tools; Assist in establishing annual strategic organizational goals and objectives that are balanced with achievable resource development; and Assist in short and long- term budgetary planning, resource development and costs of management in alignment with the NB3 Foundation s strategic plan, especially as the organization considers endowment development, partnerships, sponsorships, potential acquisitions, and collaborations with external organizations. DONOR DEVELOPMENT Develop and implement donor research and prospect strategy for individuals, corporations, family foundations, tribes and donor- advised funds. Design a new small donor annual giving program and manage its implementation and reporting. Work with Executive Director to design new corporate giving program. Assist with the development and submission of small to mid- size grant proposals to corporate, tribal and foundation donors Plan, prepare, schedule, and summarize major donor solicitations and ongoing stewardship activities. Research and qualify donors/supporters. Work with development associate to prepare and manage prospect profiles. Secure financial gifts through the timely submission of well- researched and well- written proposals working in cooperation with the contract grantwriter. Provide stewardship for key donors. Maintain confidentiality of donor records and use discretion with sensitive and 2

4 private information. Develop and manage active donor database. MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS AND CAMPAIGNS Coordinate, manage, and implement direct marketing and fundraising campaigns. Manage the day- to- day marketing and communications operations, including working with internal staff and external consultants on the implementation of marketing and communications strategies related to fundraising and public relations for the NB3 Foundation. Secure content (e.g., pictures, articles, data, etc.) for program, fundraising, and organizational updates and collateral as it pertains to fundraising and related communications. Manage content distribution with fundraising and communications consultants as directed by the Executive Director. NB3 SPECIAL EVENTS Under the management of the Executive Director and in coordination with staff and event management agency, assist in identifying and cultivating sponsor prospects; assist with sponsorship services and activation as necessary. MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION Manage the day- to- day RDM Department activities, including supervising the development associate and his/her work plan. Assume responsibility for management and communications pertaining to the development calendar of ongoing activities and projects. Oversee development data management systems, including conducting regular updates and maintaining donor files. Coordinate with the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, and appropriate Program Directors to ensure timely and complete reporting to funders, as well as appropriate tracking of required reporting to funders. Manage the development budget and provide monthly financial reporting. Provide department reports to the Executive Director as required. In coordination with the Finance Department, ensure proper processing and recording of fundraising revenues. Maintain updated annual charity and fundraising registrations with the appropriate state and federal entities. Other duties as required. REPORTING STRUCTURE The Development and Marketing Director position reports directly to the Executive Director. This position will supervise RDM Department staff and work closely with development and communications consultants. POSITION REQUIREMENTS A baccalaureate degree in a related field. A combination of some college and professional work experience may be considered equivalent. 3

5 Five or more years of direct development and/or marketing work experience, including fundraising, donor development, and major gift fundraising. Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well with board members, staff, donors, and volunteers. Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Ability to take the initiative and work independently. Previous grant writing, direct mail, and special events experience is a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Word (including mail merges) and Excel. Experience utilizing social media as development and marketing tools. Experience with database management software. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of Native Americans, preferably working knowledge of contemporary Native American issues and opportunities. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic. Knowledge of records management and basic accounting principles. Skill in coordinating members of a work group to accomplish tasks. Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational reports. Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including proficiency with Windows programs (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), QuickBooks, and the Internet. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. Ability to represent the Foundation in a professional manner, building respect and confidence in the organization. Ability to take specific actions and provide feedback after listening to the concerns of participants, staff, donors, and others. Ability to work efficiently under stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate a high- level of detail orientation. Ability to demonstrate a high- level of organizational skills. Ability to create and present effective electronic documents, data, and information. Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment. Ability to follow oral and written instruction. 4

6 PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use arms/hands/fingers, talk, hear, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Due to the nature of work and goals of the Foundation, the employee may be required to maintain a minimum physical condition and comply with predetermined fitness standards. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is generally performed in an office setting with moderate noise levels. Some evening and/or weekend work is required. There is frequent interaction with the public, program participants, and employees. Tight time constraints and multiple demands from several people are common. Travel may be required to program operation locations, trainings, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events. 5
