2 1. General Information Festival History Founded in 1957, Dublin Theatre Festival is an annual event staged in Dublin, Ireland. It enjoys an international reputation for artistic excellence and as a platform for new Irish work and productions by the world s leading theatre artists. The company is a not for profit organisation Limited by Guarantee a registered Charity funded by the Arts Council, Dublin City Council and Fáilte Ireland. Mission Statement Dublin Theatre Festival will continue to be one of the world s most prestigious celebrations of the dramatic arts. The Festival will present the very best international theatre artists and companies and will prioritise work that is underscored by a commitment to artistic excellence, diversity and innovation. By increasing our commitment to co productions, commissions, and artist development initiatives, the Festival will enhance its significant developmental role within Irish theatre. By providing a unique platform on which Irish artists can showcase their very best work, the Festival will continue to promote Irish theatre in an international context. Festival Funding The Festival is funded through three streams, comprised of public funding, private support and earned income. Organisational Structure Dublin Theatre Festival Council Current Council members are Declan Collier (Chairman), Peter Crowley, Michael Colgan, Michael Collins, Garry Hynes, Pauline McLynn, Terence O Rourke, and Gavin Quinn Dublin Theatre Festival Staff and Structure Artistic Director/Chief Executive - Willie White Responsibility for leading and driving the artistic vision for each Festival, ensuring that Dublin Theatre Festival achieves its mission to bring the best available international theatre to Dublin and to complement this with Irish productions, especially premieres of new work, through conceiving, planning and delivering a programme of international merit. The Artistic Director has overall responsibility for the management of the financial and administrative affairs of the Festival and is tasked with ensuring that each Festival is delivered to budget. The Development Manager is one of four department heads reporting to the Artistic Director, along with Director of Programme and Production, General Manager and Marketing Manager. As the Festival approaches, the team expands to approximately 30 people. 2

Position Profile Working closely with the Artistic Director/Chief Executive and the Festival Council, the Development Manager is responsible for the design and implementation of strategies that drive income generation including commercial sponsorship, philanthropic giving and Government agency funding. This should be achieved in a manner which advances both the artistic and the business goals of the company The Development Manager is responsible for the successful stewardship of existing relationships, ensuring income is maintained, while also researching and developing new sources of revenue. Key elements to the role are as follows. Sponsorship Coordination of all work relating to the smooth operation of a tiered giving structure including recruitment and negotiation of sponsorships and delivery of sponsor activation requirements. Developing print material, proposal documents, target lists and other resources in the search for Festival sponsors, in addition to making presentations and pitches to leads, negotiating deals and contracting sponsors. The Development Manager is the point of contact for all sponsors, with responsibility for servicing sponsor relationships throughout the year, including reporting, ticketing, corporate entertainment, marketing, launches, press liaison, and company initiatives. Philanthropic Giving Overseeing the Irish Theatre Trust and managing fundraising campaigns for the Trust. Managing fundraising activity in the US in conjunction with the American Friends of the Arts in Ireland. Individual & Corporate Giving Responsibility for the design and implementation of corporate and individual giving programmes. Meeting sales targets, structuring packages and rolling out recruitment campaigns, design and print of marketing collateral, overseeing the administration and servicing of the schemes, coordinating all aspects of the logistics of events associated with these programmes, servicing relationships (including ticketing), crediting and post festival thanks. Funding Agencies Along with the Artistic Director the Development Manager prepares applications to Irish and international funding agencies. Irish funding agencies include Dublin City Council, Fáilte Ireland, Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and Culture Ireland. Regular international cultural and funding partnerships include those with the British Council, Institut Français and the Goethe Institute in addition to national embassies, foundations, and European agencies. The Development Manager is also responsible for developing and stewarding these relationships. Events Co-ordinating fundraising events during the year. Co-ordinating and contributing to events in advance of and during the Festival including launch, opening night and sponsor receptions. Financial Preparing and agreeing development targets and budgets with the Artistic Director. 3

4 The key qualities sought are: Proven track record of achievement in fundraising Evidence of successfully managing relationships with a diverse portfolio of sponsors and stakeholders Experience setting and controlling budgets and in efficient use of financial and other resources Knowledge of the performing arts, specifically theatre Experience of dealing with the media Excellent understanding of marketing, particularly in relation to branding and sponsorship Enthusiasm for Dublin and Ireland and knowledge of the country s culture and artists Commitment to extending participation in the arts Skills and personal qualities: Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to build trust based relationships internally and externally The ability to think strategically Initiator and collaborator, able to work effectively with others Resilient, with the ability to cope with pressure and high expectations Integrity, honesty and loyalty Proven leadership, team building and management skills Planning and decision making skills Commercial awareness 4

5 3. Summary of Terms and Conditions Contract: Salary: Notice: Probation: Pension: Holidays: Location: One year initially, renewable subject to review with the Artistic Director/Chief Executive. Further details available on request. Three months notice on either side. Six months, with notice of one month during this period Company scheme available after 12 months continuous employment. Employee s contributions matched by employer up to 5%. 21 days each year, plus 10 days statutory Bank Holidays. The Festival Offices are closed for three weeks over Christmas and New Year to compensate for additional hours worked during the Festival. The Festival offices are based in Dublin and the Development Manager will be expected to live within easy commuting distance. 4. Interviews Interviews will be held in Dublin the week of May and applicants selected for interview will be expected to make themselves available on this date. As part of the interview candidates will be invited to make a five minute presentation based on their letter of application. Following initial interviews a second round of interviews may be held.
