1 Position Title: Specialised Residential Care (SRC) Worker Respite Division: Reports to: HYPA SRC Program Manager Incumbent: Job Profile Job Focus To provide role modelling, support, home management and supervision to young people in the SRC Home. The Respite SRC Worker position provides assistance to the Primary and Secondary SRC Workers and is supported by the multi-disciplinary SRC team. To provide live-in care relief or back up to the Primary and Secondary SRC Workers as required. KRA 1 Operations Assist the Primary and Secondary SRC Workers in managing and overseeing the day-to-day running of the household in line with the philosophy and approaches of the Lighthouse Therapeutic Family Model of Care (TFMC ). Ensure the home is a safe and nurturing environment for young people. In collaboration with the Primary and Secondary SRC Workers, support and participate in daily tasks of the young people within the household, including meal preparation and weekly family meetings. Collaborate and communicate regularly with other members of the SRC Team to support the care of young people and if appropriate, provide input into Care, Therapy and Transition Plans. Demonstration, by example, of a parental and/or peer support role within the family unit. This includes: o maintaining an adult presence within the household; o liaising with the SRC Supervisor, Primary and Secondary SRC Workers in relation to household tasks and emotional support for young people; o facilitating home-based activities; and Page 1 of 5
2 o listening and providing support as required. When required, assist the young people to engage in activities outside the home, including social, educational, community and cultural activities. Implement behaviour management strategies in a manner consistent with the Primary and Secondary SRC Workers. Effectively respond to and manage crisis situations and critical incidents, following SRC Team protocols and relevant HYPA policies and procedures. Where required, participate in the maintenance and development of SRC Team objectives by: o Attending relevant staff meetings; o Attending relevant staff training and actively engaging in own learning; o Actively participate in and attend operational and clinical supervision. Timely completion of administrative tasks, including regular and accurate recording of young people s daily functioning and behaviour. Other Achieve all agreed KPIs. Participate in SYC events. Represent SYC at all times in a professional and ethical manner consistent with Our Purpose. Conduct any other duties that may be reasonably expected of you from time to time. KRA 2 Compliance Operate at all times in a manner consistent with both the letter and the intent of: o all current policies and procedures of SYC; o the current SYC Code of Conduct; o relevant quality management systems as amended from time to time; and o all relevant contracts, agreements, standards, legislation and regulations. Uphold the principles of SYC s Valuing Diversity policy and encourage a work environment that is: o conducive to the acceptance and implementation of workplace diversity; o free from discrimination and harassment; and o respectful of each individual regardless of classification, background, qualifications, skills or other characteristics. 3 KRA 3 Safety Employee Responsibilities: Comply with all required health and safety and injury management legislation relating to the relevant state jurisdiction. Conduct all work duties in accordance with SYC Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures. Report all hazards, incidents, injuries, unsafe acts or conditions to your manager. Comply with health and safety instructions so far as reasonably able. Carry out all duties in a manner that does not adversely affect your own health and safety or that of others. Cooperate with measures introduced in the interests of workplace health and safety. Undertake any training provided in relation to health and safety. Correctly use any information, training, personal protective equipment and safety devices provided. Refrain from intentionally misusing or recklessly interfering with anything that has been provided for health and safety reasons. Undertake only those tasks for which you have been authorised and/or received the necessary training, and for which all necessary safety arrangements are in place. Page 3 of 5
4 Qualifications / Experience JOB AND COMPETENCY PROFILE Competency Profile Certificate III level qualification in a related field (e.g. Youth Work, Mental Health, Disability Services, Community Services etc.). Experience working effectively with people with complex needs. Experience with conflict and crisis management. Experience working in a residential setting highly desirable. Current full SA Driver s licence and willingness to drive. Skills and Competencies Ability and willingness to embrace approaches related to the TFMC model, creating and maintaining a family environment for young people from at risk backgrounds. Skills in identifying and responding to crisis situations including suicide/selfharm risks. Ability to work with the special needs of young people who have experienced histories of trauma, abuse and neglect. Well-developed relationship management skills to create, maintain and build positive working relationships with others. High level of communication skills, both written and verbal. Well-developed ability to negotiate and manage conflict. Computer literacy. Knowledge Knowledge of supporting and coordinating the implementation of therapeutic approaches relevant to young people with histories of abuse and neglect is desirable. Sound working knowledge of all relevant legislation, including duty of care and child safety reporting. A general understanding of and commitment to equal opportunity and social justice principles. Personal Attributes Ability to stay calm and rational in volatile situations. Demonstrated commitment to personal learning and development.
