Workshop Supervisor, Operations Supervisors, Stores All staff on shift Roles & responsibilities (1) Purpose of this position: Key objectives: To provide day to day hands-on supervision on a shift basis of the Engineering Workshop staff to ensure sufficient, clean, safe and defect-free vehicles are available for service in line with Company Policies, Regulatory Standards and Statutory guidelines, deadlines and requirements. To ensure that there are sufficient staff rostered on shift at all times to meet service needs. To promote and role model the agreed Values of the organisation. To ensure that all staff undertake their duties in compliance with company policies and procedures at all times. To ensure that staff, systems and resources are used in the Workshop to meet Departmental requirements and standards in order to provide excellent levels of customer service at all times. To work as part of the Engineering management team to ensure that cost effective and value added solutions are in place to meet customer needs. To ensure that a safe and healthy work environment exists by adhering to company health, safety and environment policies, and ensure full compliance with relevant legislation. To deliver all the requirements of Company policies in particular those designed to improve People Performance and Engagement.

2 Roles & responsibilities (2) Dimensions of role: Authority level - As per authority levels. No. of employees - Direct reports, according to shift patterns Signing level - As per bank mandate. Outputs - MOT passes; Inservice vehicles; Inspection Intervals Profit (% and ) - Company budget. Control systems - First use checks; inspection reports; job cards; E.P. Morris defect reports Roles & responsibilities (3) Key responsibilities: Workshop supervision To control and allocate the flow of work through the workshop to make the best use of staff, equipment and other resources. To ensure that vehicles are maintained and cleaned on a daily basis and there are sufficient vehicles to meet business requirements, in particular the morning run out. To ensure that engineering lost mileage is kept to a minimum and take appropriate, hands-on corrective action where required including carrying out mechanical repairs when required. To ensure that vehicles are serviced in accordance with departmental service standards. To ensure that pro-active planned maintenance is carried out on vehicles to prevent problems occurring. To ensure that any PSV testing failures are investigated and resolved in a timely manner. To ensure that the workshop housekeeping and operating practices are of a high standard and that special tools and equipment is well maintained. To ensure that each vehicle has a full documented history of work carried out to satisfy DVSA and company requirements. To act as a technical expert in the Workshop, advising staff on tasks and sharing knowledge, for example through regular toolbox talks. To implement management decisions. People Management To carry out any staff appraisals allocated by the Engineering Manager. To maintain a high performing engineering team and in particular take responsibility for supporting and advising technicians and coaching and mentoring of apprentices.

3 To assist the Engineering Manager by dealing with HR issues as they arise and in accordance with company procedures, escalating more serious matters as appropriate. To assist the Engineering Manager with the recruitment of staff, when required. Health and Safety compliance To instil and maintain a strong health and safety culture amongst the Engineering team with a good understanding of risk assessments. Limits of authority & Freedom to act To be a member of the Health and Safety Committee and ensure that members are kept informed of key health and safety issues and potential solutions. Freedom to act in day to day management of the Engineering Department. Within the guidelines set and agreed by the Managing Director and Company Policy, to discipline up to written warning. Financial Authority Level per company Schedule and Policy.

4 Capabilities Qualifications: Essential: National vocational standard level in Engineering at NVQ level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience. Desirable: Health and Safety qualification, PCV licence and CPC. Competencies and Core Skills: Communication Good listening skills. The ability to write business s/letters using Plain English, to create a positive and professional image of the company. The ability to communicate verbally and in a succinct and articulate manner, in order to present facts, arguments and conclusions in a way that is easy to understand and clear to the receiver. Interpersonal Strong interpersonal skills, confident and respectful with people. The ability to give and receive feedback in a patient and constructive manner. The ability to identify and apply the most appropriate style and approach to a range of situations that involve personal contacts, either 1:1 or in groups, in order that effective working relationships are encouraged and maintained. Negotiating The ability to seek and gain agreement with third parties in order to achieve a given objective or goal. IT and computer literacy Able to use software such as Word, , internet, fleet management systems to process and present information in line with responsibilities. Financial Able to use a calculator and spreadsheets. Organisational and time management Able to work to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines. Well organised, calm and cheerful under pressure.

5 Able to work well in a team and on own initiative. Problem solving and decision making The ability to analyse information in a systematic way and make decisions in an objective and structured way. Attention to detail Good attention to detail. Other Flexible in approach and adaptable to change. Positive pro-active approach, good role model. Willing to work shifts and cover holidays. An excellent understanding of mechanics and computer diagnostics. Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in vehicle maintenance, including diagnostics. Understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice. Understanding of the requirements of an Operator s Licence. Experience in public transport environment an advantage. Identifying and managing risk within your area of responsibility and ensuring that Company interests are protected at all times.
