1 CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services Overview This qualification is suitable for community service workers who design and deliver person-centred services to individuals and/or groups. Workers may provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services. Over 50 occupations fall under the community work banner and roles include intake, support, case work, crisis intervention, team management and advocacy. The community services and health industries are the largest and fastest growing in Australia and it is estimated that they will generate approximately 1 in 4 of all new jobs by (CS&HISC 2012 Environmental Scan). This qualification covers key issues common to all areas community work such as, child protection, family and domestic violence and working with cultural diversity. Students will then select a focus area specific to their interest or current work. There is the opportunity to participate in more than one focus area to broaden skills and knowledge across community services. Duration The Institute recommends that this qualification be completed within 6 12 months of commencement. Participation This qualification is delivered via blended learning, combining face to face sessions with online learning. Participants will be required to undertake self-directed learning outside of classroom delivery as well as work placement activities within an appropriate organisation or agency (where appropriate). Students will need to identify and negotiate any required work placement with an appropriate community service provider. 3 Modules Workplace Requirements The World of Work: Workplace health and safety legislations, Policies and procedures, different Acts, Regulatory frameworks, Reporting procedures, Rights and responsibilities Job roles, Risks and hazards Team work vision / mission philosophies, Ethical work practices The Law and community work Communication, Diversity and Interacting with Others: Communication skills, Workplace learning Language, Literacy and Numeracy and effective writing skills, Effective communication, Different forms of communication Rapport building, communication styles / barriers etc. Cultural fitness workshop, active listening skills Conflict negotiation and resolution Cultural diversity (cultural, ability, gender, age) The Community Services Sector, Getting the Job Done: The Development of community sector; what is Community Services? Collaborative work referrals Relationship building, Clients and the demand for linkages to other services Community development and Social justice Community needs and responses Focus Area Students must select and complete 1 focus area to meet the requirements to be awarded this qualification. Focus areas emphasises the development of skills and knowledge related to the focus area. These specialisations are delivered by experienced workers form across RASA services in collaboration with Institute trainers and assessors.
