5 History The 17 houses built in Crick Road towards the end of the nineteenth century were mostly in pairs, with Jacobean as well as more traditional North Oxford Gothic detailing. In 1879, the Dragon School formally known as the Oxford Preparatory School moved from Balliol Hall in St. Giles to number 17 Crick Road, which became known as the School House. In 1895 the school moved to its current location in nearby Bardwell Road. Number 12 Crick Road was designed by the Architect Frederick Codd and built in 1877; the architectural features which are so indicative of his style are very prominent throughout the building.
