1 Creating a presentatin in Micrsft PwerPint invlves starting with a basic design; adding new slides and cntent, chsing layuts; mdifying slide design; and creating effects such as animated slide transitins. The infrmatin in this tutrial fcuses n the ptin available t yu when yu begin the prcess f creating a presentatin. T start PwerPint Click n the Windws Start menu. Place yu muse n Prgrams, and select Micrsft PwerPint frm the fly-ut menu. Start / Prgrams / Micrsft PwerPint. The PwerPint wrkspace will appear. The prgram autmatically starts with a default slide f title and subtitle

2 T Start a New Presentatin Dem Click n the Windws symbl in the upper left hand crner then click New Blank and Recent - is what the prgram autmatically starts with. Templates Installed Templates has varius ptins that PwerPint cmes installed with. Installed Themes these have a backgrund and clr scheme applied t them. My templates are templates that yu have created New frm existing uses a template r presentatin that has already been created. Micrsft Office Online allws yu t g nline t dwnlad varius templates.

3 Presentatin Chices Fr a new user f PwerPint, it may be easiest t chse the Frm Design Template ptin, which will prvide yu with a wide array f templates. These template designs are a standard feature with this prgram; hwever, lder versins f PwerPint tend t have fewer template designs included, and newer versins f the sftware tend t have mre. Blank Presentatin When yu chse this ptin, yu will get a blank wrkspace, like that pictured belw. This allws yu the flexibility t chse yur slide layut, clr scheme, images, etc. Yu can use the different tlbars t frmat yur slides. Menu bar Standard Tlbar Slide Status Bar View Optins PwerPint 2007 ffers a new layut. Let s take a mment t lk at the different tlbars. Hme Clipbard has paste, cut, cpy and Frmat Painter

6 Create a Presentatin frm Design Template Basic Presentatin View Dem Theme Presentatin View Dem T begin ur presentatin using a template, click n the Design tlbar t start. Scrll thrugh the varius designs t find the ne that suits yur needs. If yu want t preview a design, left-click it nce. Yu can always change it by clicking anther design. Once yu have typed in a Title and/r subtitle. Yu can add a new slide. Add a Slide T insert a new slide, click n the Hme tab and select New Slide. If the layuts prvided d nt suit yur needs, yu may select the Blank layut, which will prvide yu with an empty slide.

7 The slide layut will appear in the Slide Pane area, where yu can click and add text r ther presentatin bjects such as clip art, a picture frm file, a chart and s n. We ll chse Picture with captin. T add a picture, click the icn. It will autmatically pen yur My Pictures flder, select a picture and click insert. It will autmatically size yur image t fit. If yu decide yu dn t want that picture just click n it and hit the delete buttn. Add/Mdify Text Select the slide n which yu want t insert text. If there is already a text bx n the slide, click in the text bx area and begin typing. If yu want t insert a new text bx, click n the Insert tab, and select Text Bx. When yu mve yur cursr ver the slide it appears as a narrw crss-hare as seen belw n the left. Click where yu want t place yur text bx and drag. Release yur muse when the bx is the desired size. Enter yur text. Familiar wrd prcessing tls fr mdifying text (clr, style, fnt, alignment, etc.) are prvided.

8 Nte: If yu are using a template, it will already have set fnts. Yu can change fnt just like yu can in MS Wrd. Add/Mdify Backgrund Clr Thugh mst peple chse t use templates t save time, which cme with a set backgrund design r clr, they can be changed. If yu are designing a presentatin frm scratch, hwever, a backgrund clr will make the presentatin mre readable fr yur audience than a plain white backgrund. T add/mdify backgrund clr: G t the Design tab and select Backgrund Styles. Click n Frmat Backgrund Yu select slid, gradient, r a picture fill. If yu want t g back t the backgrund, click Reset Backgrund. If yu are satisfied, click Apply t All, which will change all slides in a presentatin. Add a Graphic There are varius ways t add pictures t yur slides, including: inserting Clip Art, imprting a picture frm an image file, creating WrdArt, inserting diagrams and charts, and using PwerPint's drawing tls. These same tls are available frm the main menu if yu select Insert. As yu ll ntice, there are many ptins: Clip Art Cmes in a variety f frmats (.jpg,.wmf, etc.). Sme graphics cme standard with the prgram. If yu have an Internet cnnectin, yu can als search Micrsft s site fr mre clip art, which yu can dwnlad t yur clip art file. Frm File

9 If yu ve saved a graphic r picture t a file, yu can pen that file and insert it int yur presentatin. When yu select this ptin, yur dialg windw shws yu that PwerPint recgnizes graphics with certain files extensins. Fr the purpse f a slide presentatin, yur graphics will likely have.gif extensin, and yur pictures a.jpg extensin. While the prgram recgnizes several ther file extensins, these tend t translate best int the prgram. Frm Scanner r Camera If the selected device is a scanner, click Web Quality (if yu are ging t shw yur picture n screen) r Print Quality (if yu plan t print yur presentatin as well). Click Insert t scan yur picture. If the selected device is nt a scanner r yu want custmize any setting befre yu scan the picture, click Custm Insert. Fllw the instructins that cme with the device yu are using. 1 A few recmmendatins abut graphics: Less is mre. Use graphics sparingly t cmmunicate, nt just t make yur slide mre interesting. When yu insert a digital image, like the ne pictured belw, it is imprtant t remember that if yu stretch it beynd its riginal size, it will begin t lk fuzzy and pixilated as shwn belw. 10 If yu need basic graphics editing slutins, PwerPint ffers sme functinality that can save yu time. Select the graphic r picture that yu want t mdify. This shuld enable yur picture tlbar. Crp Use this feature t trim unneeded prtins f a graphic. Select the buttn, and black handles will appear arund the graphic. T crp ne side, drag the center handle n the side inward. T crp equally n tw sides at nce, hld dwn the CTRL key as yu drag the center handle n either side inward. T crp equally n all fur sides at nce, hld dwn the CTRL key as yu drp a crner handle inward. 2 Cmpress Use this feature t make yur graphic r picture smaller. Select the buttn, and this windw will pen. The main reasn t cmpress a pht r graphic is t use up less space n yur drive r decrease dwnlad time (Web). Using this feature can cmprmise the quality f the pht r graphic. Frmat Use this feature t change the dimensins f yur graphic. Yu can change the height r width, and the prgram will change the ther dimensins autmatically t retain the prprtins f the riginal. Save and Save As As yu wrk n yur presentatin, be sure t save yur wrk frequently t ensure that yu will nt lse yur latest changes r additins. T save and name a presentatin, click n the windw icn and select Save As frm the drp-dwn menu. When yu click Save As there will be many ptins t chse frm: PwerPint Presentatin is the default, but remember nly peple with PwerPint 2007 will be able t pen and view this presentatin. PwerPint Shw is if yu want t save it as the final shw, it s n lnger editable. 2 Micrsft PwerPint Help Crp a Picture.

11 PwerPint Presentatin will allw lder versins f PwerPint t pen and view this file. Sme changes may be discarded if ptins are nly available in PwerPint Adbe PDF is used t create a PDF f yur dcument, and it will n lnger be editable. Nte: If yu are wrking in a TEC lab, it is best t save t yur netwrk accunt r t a remvable drive such as a ZIP drive r a USB flash drive (A.K.A. thumb drive).
