2 The is looking to appoint an inspirational and visionary leader with the ability to transplant the ethos and excellence of the two RGS schools on the UK into the exciting and evolving environment of Doha, Qatar. The Qatar prep school is already under development and the successful candidate will be closely involved in shaping the facilities, curriculum and ethos. The links between the two Guildford schools and RGS Guildford in Qatar will be at the heart of the success and development of this new project. The Trustees of the Royal Grammar School, Guildford are excited to be establishing an international school in Doha, Qatar. The first phase of this development is to create an outstanding co-educational prep school starting in 2016 with EYFS and KS1, to be followed a year later with the full KS2 complement. The school will start with 270 pupils and grow to 570 when full from September Committed support will be available from the Guildford team and a member of the RGS SMT has relocated to Doha to support the prep school while establishing senior school provision. The RGS will be working with an established and successful Qatari company who have the ambition and the vision to supports the Qatar National Vision 2030 which explicitly sets out the state s intention to offer the best education possible. Pupils will be drawn from both the local population and the extensive expatriate community. Admissions will be through an academically selective process. The Trustees oversee two outstanding and highly regarded schools in the United Kingdom; the Royal Grammar School, Guildford is the senior school, Lanesborough School is the prep school. Both have a national reputation for academic excellence and also pride themselves on the traditional values of decency and respect, supported by very strong pastoral care. Pupils have a genuine warmth and sense of fun. They also possess a strong sense of community and tolerance all of which combine to allow each individual to flourish. The academic results are exceptional, as described in the most recent Independent Schools Inspectorate report, and both are consistently rated among the highest achieving boys schools in the UK. page 2

3 Key Responsibilities To be responsible for setting up and leading the new school. To ensure that the start up curriculum is modelled on current best practice in the new English National Curriculum. To enthuse and engage all stakeholders in the establishment of a high quality preparatory school that will mirror the very high standards already embedded at Lanesborough, RGS Guildford s prep school. To collaborate closely with the SMT to ensure the highest standards of teaching are sustained and pupils progress is tracked and monitored appropriately. To ensure that pastoral care across the school is closely monitored at all times. To oversee the reporting of pupils progress to parents through electronic, hard copy and face to face meetings, as appropriate, throughout the school year. Teaching and Learning: Leadership Lead by example as a teacher and the most senior leader in RGS Guildford Qatar Prep. Organise appropriate expectations for staff and pupils in relation to standards of pupils achievements and the quality of teaching, through the establishment of targets for improving and sustaining pupils achievement and progress. Support curriculum leaders and subject teachers in the development, implementation and review of current and future curricular models. Oversee the mid and long term planning and ensuring that consistency in teaching is found at all levels and stages of the inaugural RGS Guildford Qatar Prep Take full responsibility for the pastoral care of all pupils. page 3

4 Assessment and Tracking Pupil Progress Undertake responsibility for tracking of pupils progress in whole school. Collect pupil attainment and progress data, and oversee its analysis. Work with the SMT to formalise the monitoring of the target setting process for raising achievement for pupils, Ensure appropriate mechanisms for feeding back this data to the appropriate constituencies within. Provide a clear vision and direction for the development of the school. Lead the strategic direction of School s embryonic planning for the subsequent opening of RGS Guildford Qatar Senior School. Be a strong advocate for change and be a champion for all aspects of. Establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and lead teachers. Plan, organise and chair staff meetings as appropriate in order to ensure school policies and practices are being implemented and monitored. Standards and Quality Assurance Lead aspects of monitoring the quality of teaching and learning in the school, in line with the school policy and the school s development plan. Support and mentor staff as needed or requested by them. People and relationships Sustain effective, positive working relationships with all staff, pupils, parents, prospective and enrolled, and also with the local community. Work closely with the marketing department to promote the new School. Encourage moral and spiritual growth and foster appropriate cultural and social responsibility amongst pupils. page 4

5 Human Resources Lead aspects of the professional development of all staff through example, coaching, peer support and target setting. Assist with the recruitment and induction of new staff. Work in close association with colleagues to implement a budget for School. The successful candidate will be: An outstanding and passionate leader.
