2 An introduction from the Chief Executive Thank you for your interest in joining the team at Crohn s and Colitis UK. We are currently entering an exciting new phase in the development of the charity having recently completed a strategic review and reconfiguration of our work. As a result, we have identified a clear strategy for the charity going forward which has given us a renewed sense of focus, energy and determination. The Director of Income Generation presents a wonderful opportunity to help us shape the future of the UK s leading patient organisation working in the area of Crohn s and Ulcerative Colitis. We are in a good position strategically, financially and politically but we have a renewed ambition which will require us to raise significantly more money in order to be able to reach out, support more people and fund more research. We have already identified a number of income streams with strong potential for this growth, including corporate, legacy and trust and foundation sources. I took up the post of Chief Executive in February 2013 and over the last year have been shocked at the devastating nature a diagnosis of Crohn s or Ulcerative Colitis can bring. These are lifelong, chronic conditions which can strike at any age but often are diagnosed in young people who have a whole life ahead of them. They are conditions which have little public profile yet they impact over 260,000 people across the UK and there is currently no cure. Since joining Crohn s and Colitis UK I have been hugely impressed by the work I have seen being delivered by the charity and inspired by the many people I have met. But we have to do more if we are to realise our vision of a world in which people s lives are not limited by Crohn s or Colitis. Our Board of Trustees, the staff team and our thousands of members, supporters, volunteers and fundraisers are passionate about helping us to deliver more. I hope that this recruitment pack will give you a sense of our ambition for the future and the exciting opportunity ahead of us. Our Mission To work with all those affected by Crohn s and Colitis to achieve a better quality of life, improve support and services and, ultimately find a cure. These are: Compassion Inclusion Collaboration Empowerment Excellence What we do Our core purpose is to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the most common forms being Crohn s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Together these conditions affect at least 260,000 people in the United Kingdom and there is currently no known cure. IBD can strike at any age, but begins most commonly in teenagers and young adults. A diagnosis of Crohn s or Ulcerative Colitis can have a devastating impact on life, education and work. So as the UK s largest patient organisation working in this field we are committed to ensuring that patients and their families have the right information and support to help them manage their lifelong condition. We do this by providing a range of information and support services, raising awareness of Crohn s and Ulcerative Colitis through our media work, Celebrity Ambassadors and champions, and by working in close partnership with healthcare professionals, MP s and decision makers in order to drive up standards of healthcare across the UK. We are also committed to finding a cure for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and since 1984 have been funding a wide range of research projects. Our aim is not only to search for causes, cure and better treatments, but also to explore the social and psychological impact of these illnesses on patients and their families. But we can t do it alone. We work alongside thousands of members, dedicated supporters, fundraisers, volunteers, celebrities, healthcare professionals, politicians, journalists and opinion formers. 8 Job Description Job Title: Director of Income Generation Responsible to: Chief Executive Responsible for: The Income Generation team Location: St. Albans, Hertfordshire Salary: Circa 55,000 Key internal relationships: Chief Executive, Directors, other managers and staff, Trustees, relevant Committee Members and volunteers. 8 Key external relationships: Major donors, Fundraisers, Corporate Donors, Volunteers, Members, Suppliers, Professional bodies, Consultants and contractors. Purpose of the job:to lead and build the charity s income generation activity through the development and implementation of a strategy for growth. 9 Job Description Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership To lead, motivate and manage the Income Generation team in order to meet agreed goals To champion and deliver effective cross departmental working To represent the Charity at external events and activities To act as spokesperson for the organisation (including media interviews) To proactively work as a member of the senior leadership team, playing a leading role in the strategic development and future success of the charity To deputise for the Chief Executive and/or other Directors as required, providing support and guidance to board colleagues as required 2. Team Management To prepare and implement an annual operational plan and budget for all income generation activity that contributes to the strategic objectives of the charity To successfully manage and support the Income Generation team ensuring all staff are working to clear objectives and agreed targets To hold regular one to ones with direct line reports ensuring effective performance management of all the entire team Encourage and maintain a working environment which attracts, retains and motivates high quality and high performing staff 3. Income Generation To take overall responsibility for the strategic development, growth and implementation of all areas of income generation To identify, recommend and develop ways to diversify income in order to have a stronger portfolio of income strands To grow income through a programme of corporate, trust and foundation and major donor initiatives To review, revise and maximise return on investment from existing events and community fundraising initiatives To identify, develop & implement opportunities for income generation via digital channels To investigate and make recommendations on the development of a programme of regular giving To promote ways to grow our legacy giving To maximise any new business development opportunities activities identified across any area of the charity that could generate additional income To monitor performance on a monthly basis, reporting any areas of concern with a suggested plan of any remedial action that is necessary or any areas of better than expected performance and a suggested plan of how to maximise this To ensure all necessary legal and financial issues around income generation are appropriately fulfilled and adhered to To manage relevant freelance or contract staff/ agencies 9 Director of Income Generation July 2014

Working in partnership across the organisation To work in partnership with the Director of Marketing, Communications and Membership to deliver joined up and fully integrated programmes of activity, particularly around engagement with our members and the development of a strong proposition/case for support In conjunction with the Director of Support Services, develop programmes for enthusing and growing local group fundraising To work in close partnership with the Director of Marketing, Communications and Membership and the Director of Finance and Corporate Services on the development and use of the CRM database To work with fellow directors and middle management to develop strong proposals and packages for potential funding To undertake any other duties as required by the Board of Trustees or the Chief Executive 10 Director of Income Generation July 2014

11 Person Specification Experience Essential Experience of devising and delivering strategies to grow income from corporate and trust and foundation streams Experience of building successful relationships with both external and internal stakeholders at all levels, in particular, building sustainable relationships with new and existing donors Experience of identifying, targeting and winning support from members, groups and new supporters Experience of leading and developing teams, including through periods of change, with a demonstrable ability to motivate and inspire others Ability to budget, forecast, interpret and act appropriately on latest financial and statistical information Desirable Experience of devising and delivering strategies to grow income major donor streams Experience of events, including a track record of maximizing return on investment Degree or Management Qualification Fundraising Qualification Member of the Institute of Fundraising Skills Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills Fully conversant with charity fundraising legislation and codes of practice Able to effectively influence and build strong partnerships with people at all levels Good strategic planning and project management skills. Strong analytical, interpretative, evaluative and organisational skills.
