2 About Envision Envision provides young people with the opportunity to make a difference. The charity was set up by young people in 2000 to challenge the stereotype of the youth as apathetic and disengaged. Today Envision supports young people aged from over 100 schools and colleges in Birmingham, Greater London, Leeds and Bristol, helping thousands of young people every year to design their own social action projects tackling issues ranging from street crime to climate change. The experience builds confidence, aspirations and skills inspiring the next generation of young community leaders. The objectives of our programmes are: To encourage young people to explore and become aware of social and environmental issues within their communities To develop key skills in young people including teamwork, communication, negotiation, presentation and leadership To broaden horizons, build confidence and aspirations and encourage young people to aim high To act as a catalyst for behavioural change and build the next generation of future leaders empowered to take action and create more sustainable communities Our programmes build valuable skills and knowledge for action and advocacy through first-hand exploration of citizenship and social action as it applies practically to their lives and local communities thereby creating the next generation of future leaders. Our work in this area has received a number of awards. We were named Guardian Charity of the Year in 2009 and have been highlighted in recent reports as an example of good practice by the Department for Education and Ofsted. Envision Bristol is now in its third year and working with over twenty schools and colleges across the city this academic year. The Bristol team have expanded rapidly during this time and built strong relationships with not only the young people benefiting from the programme, but local community and third sector groups, the education sector and local businesses. 3 Vision, Mission and Values At Envision we want to build a society where everyone recognises that we are all interconnected. 4 About the role This post combines both outward marketing based responsibilities with inward operational responsibilities. It is anticipated that around three fifths of time will be spent on the former and two fifths on the later. The main purpose of the role is to: Generate income to fund programmes in Bristol and continue to cultivate a strong network of future supporters. Manage a small team of delivery staff ensuring their continued professional and personal development. Oversee programme delivery to achieve agreed outcomes to the highest possible quality within time and budget constraints. You will be supported nationally by our Head of Development and locally by a Regional Committee to implement our new Community Apprentice Appeal in Bristol. To succeed in the role, you will need to be and tenacious and charming networker and inspiring communicator. We are also seeking someone with experience of managing projects including getting the best out of staff. Because we recognise that we are looking for a lot in one individual, it is not essential that you have experience of working with young people. You will be supported to deliver a quality programme by our experienced Head of Programmes and Delivery. The post holder will also be part of our Extended Management Team. This offers a great way to see how a national organisation works and to contribute to cross organisational policies, strategy and development. You will also benefit from being part of a supportive network of Managers with similar jobs in other areas of the country. 5 Main Responsibilities Marketing and income generation Further develop and implement the Community Apprentice Appeal to secure agreed targets. Cultivate a network of high profile opinion formers and influencers. Research and build up our database of potential donors. Engage prospective donors in our work and lead them through a solicitation process. Support national income generation activities including supporting donor engagement and production of reports. Raise the profile of Envision within Bristol. Support national communications, particularly through identifying stories and case studies. People management Performance manage staff to ensure that outcomes are achieved to high quality standards. Enable the personal and professional development of staff through a range of appropriate techniques. Oversee the recruitment, training and support of all volunteers. Support the recruitment of staff as necessary. Embed Envision s values and culture, leading through example. Programme management and delivery Oversee all aspects of programme delivery in Bristol achieving agreed outputs and outcomes. Develop a network of community organisations and appropriate experts to support programme delivery. In collaboration with the Head of Programmes and Delivery, ensure that all activities are delivered in-line with operational strategy to develop defined competencies and maximise social impact. Manage the delivery of regional events. Ensure ongoing maintenance of our participant database and undertake regular evaluations to support a process of continuous improvement. Assist with the preparation and ongoing monitoring of regional and project budgets. Co-ordinate at least one Envision team in order to maintain an informed perspective of delivery. Other As a member of the Extended Management Team, support the development of strategic plans and contribute to the development of new initiatives and programmes. To be responsible for Safeguarding in the region. To be responsible for all office management including first aid and health and safety. 7 Terms and Conditions Salary The salary offered for this post will be consummate with experience. Salary will be paid monthly in arrears. Envision also offers access to a stakeholder pension scheme where we will match employee contributions up to a maximum of 5%. Management and Direct Reports This post will be managed by the Head of Programmes and Delivery. The Manager in Bristol will be responsible for the line management of the Bristol Regional Coordinator and two paid interns (on one year contracts). Contract and Hours This is a fixed term contract commencing ideally on, or around, 4 th March 2013 and terminating on 31 st December 2013 unless terminated by notice from either party. Normal working hours are 35 per week (excluding lunch breaks). We believe that staff who have a healthy balance between work and leisure are more effective than those who do not. Equally there is an expectation that for management staff, hours worked are those needed to get the job done and at times this will exceed 35 hours and include evenings and weekends. The normal place of work will be in our Bristol Office at St Nicholas House, High Street, Bristol. Occasional travel to London or other regions may be required. Holidays 25 days per annum pro rata, plus bank holidays and additional days as agreed with trustees between Christmas and New Year.
