We welcome applications both from experienced learning mentors or, from those with other relevant experience of working with children or young people who can demonstrate their ability to engage children, especially boys, from a range of backgrounds. 3 DEPARTMENT Grade CONTRACT / HOURS RESPONSIBLE TO TBC TBC 36 hrs per week, 39 weeks per annum Inclusion Manager JOB PURPOSE: To remove barriers to learning to enable all children to access the curriculum to their fullest potential. To support children s educational and social development and support teaching staff. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: To work under the instruction and guidance of the Inclusion Manager To undertake work/care or support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils Follow child protection and health & safety procedures to ensure the children s safety and wellbeing is never compromised JOB CONTENT: Main duties and responsibilities are indicated here. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature may also be required. Roles and Responsibilities To work with children who are currently finding difficulty accessing their learning due to behavioural, emotional or educational barriers To develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the pupils To build and maintain successful relationships with pupils treating them consistently with respect and consideration To help promote independent learning To assist pupils with physical needs To identify personal training needs and to attend appropriate internal and external in service training To ensure safeguarding policies are adhered to at all times Support for Teachers Help to create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment and assist with the display of children s learning Assist with the planning of learning activities Monitor pupils responses to learning activities and actively record achievement and progress as directed Provide detailed regular feedback to teachers on pupil achievement, progress or misconceptions

5 LEARNING MENTOR CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Qualifications GCSE grade A-C or NVQ First Aid Training Level 2 qualification in English and Maths Evidence of recent professional development Experience Experience in working in an education setting Experience of caring for children in the specified General understanding of the age range national curriculum or the Early Years Foundation Stage Experience of working with children who have a Have knowledge of how children learn and how to wide variety of educational needs motivate them To have led intervention Awareness of procedures relation to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection groups to support learning such as Springboard, Toe by Toe Promote good pupil behaviour and deal promptly with any issues following the school behaviour policy Professional Attributes Personal Qualities ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Excellent communication skills Ability to use ICT to support learning Has experience of working with vulnerable children and hard to reach families Is motivated, enthusiastic and creative Provide regular feedback to teachers on achievements and progress of pupils they are working with Be a positive role model and respected representative of the school at all times Ability to build good relationships with pupils and colleagues Good organisational skills This job candidate specification is subject to periodic review.
