7 [ ] sorghum events Commodity Classic Each year, more than 1,600 growers and over 4,800 total attendees travel to the Commodity Classic for educational events, networking and a huge ag trade show. The conference offers NSP the ability to host our National Yield & Management Contest winners, sorghum specific programming and leadership meetings. The 2014 Commodity Classic is Feb March 1 in San Antonio, Texas. Annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In NSP is leading legislative and regulatory change through effective policy and relationships. The most effective way to tell our story to policy makers is face-to-face. Therefore, each year our leadership, along with grower members and industry leaders, meet with senators and congressmen to influence farm policy on Capitol Hill. NSP Yield & Management Contest Every year, growers participate in NSP s Yield & Management Contest to showcase their sorghum production skills. Winners receive national recognition in Sorghum Grower, special events in their honor at Commodity Classic, and additional awards from participating seed, crop protection and chemical companies. 8 [ ] nsp highlights National Sorghum Producers works hard for the profitability and sustainability of growers and those utilizing sorghum across the U.S. Listed below are a few programs NSP has been working on to ensure the success of the sorghum industry nationwide. Crop insurance price elections Language in the 2008 Farm Bill allowed RMA to evaluate the price election of insurable sorghum. NSP worked very closely with RMA to provide input and data that moved the price election from 88 percent the value of corn to 97.8 percent. Renewable Fuels Standard NSP worked very closely with EPA for 34 months to establish a biofuels pathway for grain sorghum-based ethanol in the RFS in Dec. 2012, paving the way for qualified ethanol plants to produce domestically-grown advanced biofuel using grain sorghum. NSP has been providing comments and data to EPA and USDA to ensure all three types of sorghum are included in the program correctly. Advanced Bioenergy Program Section 9005 of the 2008 Farm Bill authorizes USDA to pay biofuels plants for the production of advanced biofuels. Because of NSP s hard work, sorghum qualifies as an advanced biofuels feedstock. Ethanol plants began receiving 9005 payments in 2009 and received them through Farm Policy NSP is working to ensure that language in the commodity, conservation and energy titles will improve sorghum profitability. 8

9 [ ] other nsp programs National Sorghum Producers is able to service the sorghum industry through a variety of programs. Each program allows the organization to work on behalf of the different segments within the industry with the common goal of increasing profitability and opportunities. Producer Memberships Individual members are the heart and soul of the National Sorghum Producers. NSP exists to serve producers and act as the voice of the sorghum industry for farmers through legislative and regulatory representation. Yield & Management Contest The NSP Yield & Management Contest provides farmers with the opportunity to showcase their sorghum crop, competing with farmers nationwide. The contest allows our industry to recognize some of its best growers. E-Member Program NSP is proud to partner with elevators around the country through its Elevator Membership Program. The E-Member Program is an opt-in program for elevators who recognize the importance of legislative representation in Washington, D.C., and want the best in sorghum education for themselves and their customers. Sorghum PAC The Sorghum PAC is NSP s bipartisan political action committee, which uses monetary PAC contributions made by individual NSP members to elect and reelect senators and members of Congress who support sorghum producers and a strong, effective sorghum industry. Sustainable Crop Insurance As a subsidiary of NSP, Sustainable Crop Insurance Services LP is an agency dedicated to providing farmers the information they need to choose the proper insurance. Our goal is to take information and give producers the knowledge to choose the right insurance for their specific situation. SCIS is licensed in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Elite Ag Management As a subsidiary of National Sorghum Producers, Elite Ag Management offers landowners professional farm management services. Elite Ag also specializes in strategic analysis of data and trends in agriculture to help sorghum companies and producers be more profitable. Sorghum Foundation The National Grain Sorghum Foundation promotes research and education for sorghum and develops leadership potential of active university students interested in studying agriculture and, more specifically, the sorghum industry. National Grain Sorghum Foundation members have contributed $5,000 or more in current gifts or $10,000 or more in future gifts to the advancement of education and science within the sorghum community. 9
