In 2011, survey respondents spent more than $95,000, on average, for harvesting equipment and $83,000, on average, for fire equipment. Sixty-eight percent said they seek out professional publications, websites, and conferences as sources for information about purchasing new products and services. Sales representatives, word of mouth, and direct mail made up the rest of those surveyed. More than 70% utilized GPS, GIS, and laptops as the primary technology tools for their work.
