1 Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Financial Accounting x 2 Sheffield Business School Department of Finance, Accounting and Business Systems Permanent Full time Salary 32,277 to 47,328 per annum, dependent on experience Vacancy reference SBS 566/14 Closing date 12/12/14 at 12 noon The Financial Accounting and Management Accounting Subject Group (FAMA) The Financial Accounting and Management Accounting (FAMA) subject group has seen a continuing increase in the quantity of its work in terms of undergraduate, postgraduate, corporate and consultancy activities. The subject group is responsible for delivering Master's programmes in Accounting and Finance, Financial Management, and Forensic Accounting, and undergraduate programmes in Accounting and Finance, and Forensic Accounting. The subject group is also responsible for developing and delivering other full-time, part-time and flexible delivery programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and for delivering a range of subjects to accountants studying for professional body qualifications. The subject group contributes to the MBA programme within the Sheffield Business School and services a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Business- and Management-related subjects. The areas that the subject group is involved in continue to grow strongly and we are looking continuously to develop new products, particularly in the areas of postgraduate courses and short courses/block delivery programmes. The subject group also makes a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in other departments and university faculties. The Department of Finance, Accounting and Business Systems (FABS) The FABS department was constituted in May 2009 as a result of a reorganisation of the Sheffield Business School. The department is experiencing a sustained increase in the quantity of its work in terms of undergraduate, postgraduate, corporate and consultancy activities. The FABS department is responsible for the delivery of the a very broad range of programmes in the Finance, Accounting and Business Systems areas as well as for the on-going development of other full time and part time and flexible delivery programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition, the department contributes to the MBA programme within the faculty as well as to the servicing of a very large number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Business, Management, Accounting and Finance related subjects. The department is continuously looking to develop new products for full time, part time and Continuous Professional Development programmes. It is anticipated that the department will continue to develop new products particularly in the areas of postgraduate courses and short courses/block delivery programmes. The department also makes a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in other departments and Sheffield Hallam University faculties. An increasingly significant part of the department's activities is the involvement with research activities within the Sheffield Business School, knowledge transfer products and corporate development programmes for external clients, across the private, public and voluntary sectors. 2 The Sheffield Business School (SBS) The Department of FABS sit within the Sheffield Business School. You can find out more about the Faculty at What will the job involve? As a result of the development and expansion of the Finance, Accounting and Business Systems Department activities and staffing changes we are seeking to appoint to a post which will suit experienced professionals who have both practical and academic credentials in the areas of Financial Accounting and Corporate Reporting. You will work with colleagues to lead on and develop undergraduate and post graduate modules on subjects related to the areas listed above. In addition, a general understanding of business related activities is required as you will teach on and help with the development of a variety of business related modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You must be able to support the delivery of numerically based modules and be comfortable with a computer lab based delivery of such modules. A full job description is included in this document, but your daily responsibilities will include: Design and delivery of learning programmes for Sheffield Business School and partner education institutions; Delivery of existing material, already developed; Setting assessment tasks; Marking assignments; Setting and marking exams; Undertaking a proactive approach to improving the content of teaching materials and the way in which curriculum is taught; Scholarly activities - keeping up to date with the latest developments in specialist and teaching fields; Undertaking academic duties such as module or course leadership, academic coaching, placement tutorship, etc.;undertaking research activities to enhance the research portfolio of the School. Research activities are encouraged and supported. Work plan hours are available to staff on a competitive basis. Significant opportunities exist for further expansion of the department's activities; creativity and innovation in teaching and learning are actively encouraged and the group has made a significant contribution to these developments in recent years with the use of simulated business cases, - learning technologies, the use of software tools and industry based projects for students. The subject group is part of a large revalidation of the School's undergraduate portfolio of courses and it is expected that you will actively contribute to this high impact exercise. There will also be a one to one meeting with the Subject Group Leader for the Financial Accounting and Management Accounting Subject Group. Please observe the requirements listed in the person specification to identify the criteria that will be tested at the shortlisting stage and during the selection event. Details of presentation: You will be expected to prepare a micro-teaching session (approx minutes in total, please note that the timings will be observed). The audience for this session will be various members of the subject group who will take the role of students. Part 1: A 10 minute lecture aimed at final year undergraduate Accounting and Finance students on a topic that will be advised at the shortlisting stage. Part 2: Following on from the lecture and linked to the materials presented in the lecture you will set up a seminar activity. You will need to give details of what the activity is (a real activity must be used), what would you do if this were a real session and what are the students supposed to do? You will need to explain the activity and present a mini session plan for how that activity would be run in a classroom - what would the lecturer do and what would the students do (approx. 10 minutes)?
