2 A look into the history In 1355, the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV ordered the councillors of the Town of Kašperské Hory to establish a path to Passau. The path was routed through LIDLOVY DVORY - PODLESÍ - ZHůŘÍ - HORSKÁ KVILDA - BUČINA - FINSTERAU - HEINRICHSBRUNN - HÖHRENRÖHRN -ZWÖLFHÄUSER - MAUTH to KREUZBERG - FREYUNG - HARSDORF - RÖHRBACH - SALZGATERN - VENDELSBERG. According to the decree of 5 January 1366, every merchant who stayed overnight on this path, had to offer his goods for sale next day. Around 1580, when this type of transport was flourishing, horses packed with goods set off from ILZ at Passau towards Kašperské Hory. Another path was routed from GRAFENAU over MODRÝ SLOUP - HORSKÁ KVILDA - REJŠTEJN to SUŠICE. From the history of the Pollauf s homestead with numbers 16, 17, 18 and 20 The original demesne was sold by the Town of Kašperské Hory to a citizen named Tobias MÜLLER, who only was a hereditary tenant paying his rent and fulfilling other obligations. In 1680, the tenure was transferred to free citizens Nikolaus and Marie PRIAM. Instead of their duty under corvée, they had to operate a guesthouse for the benefit of the town and provide travellers with beer and brandy from their production. The inn was located just at the crossroads of the trading path from Kašperské Hory to Passau and from Sušice to Grafenau. Nikolaus was a good manager. He purchased a plot of a mountain meadow and forest and built up another house. His son Lukas married Suzanne née FRANZ of Regen, took over the homestead in 1707 and extended it so that the town could increase the rent. Later, he named himself the BRANCH CUSTOMS OFFICE AND COLLECTOR. And this is what also the Pollauf s guesthouse was commissioned to. Thus, a customs point for both paths was established. After that, the homestead was managed by Adam and Dorothea POLLAUF. Their son Johan Adam purchased the property in 1795, being followed by his son Erhart for 15 years. His wife Marie Anna handed the holding over to Mathias in The area of the landed property of the homestead at that time was ha. Mathias successor is unknown. After him, Friedrich POLLAUF was the owner, but he died in World War I and his brother Dr. POLLAUF, member of the Austrian Parliament, was killed in The last German owner was Friedrich POLLAUF. He was born in 1914, resettled in 1946, and he died in In 2004, the building was reconstructed to receive the current form, and it has been bearing the name HOTEL RANKL since then. 5 Accommodation We offer accommodation in double rooms (with possibility of 1 2 extra beds) providing all the comfort of hotel (WC + shower, TV, Sat., fridge, radio). There are apartments (suites) with kitchen part of the hotel as well. Spare Time it is best to spend the time in beautiful bohemian countryside. We will be more than glad to lend you a mountain bike or cross-country ski. After a physically demanding day it will come handy to use sauna, whirlpool or massage. You can play darts, table-football or various games in the hotel lounge. We have prepared kid s playground for the little ones.
