Job description for the post of Content Developer & VLE Support Officer (Education) EHA The post holder will be: Accountable to: Responsible to: Dean of Faculty of Education Assistant Head of Professional Education Main purpose of the Post As a member of the Faculty of Education Professional Education team, you will work closely with Academics, Administrators, Learning Technologists, and other Learning and Development professionals within the organisation to develop the Faculty s online Inclusion, MA Education & National College for Teaching & Leadership (NCTL) courses. You will: Contribute to the course design, development, administration, management and delivery of programmes, or elements of programmes, through the University s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and other learning technologies. Provide creative input to develop visually engaging, interactive and accessible learning resources and activities, which incorporate mixed media such as graphics, animation, text, audio, video and quizzes, using a working knowledge of instructional design and development software tools and methodologies. Work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high energy and dynamic environment that demands innovation, quality and consistency. Main Duties & Responsibilities Course Provision Collaborate with Academic Teams, Learning Technologists and Administrators to: Design and develop courses in accordance with the university s VLE Baseline framework (which sets out minimum standards and suggestions for enhanced practices). Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that the application of new and existing technologies within courses aligns with University policy and strategic processes. Monitor student engagement with learning resources and activities and produce usage data and reports as required. Identify areas for improvement within existing learning designs and make recommendations to increase the quality and effectiveness of learning resources and activities, based on user feedback and sector research. Coordinate and evaluate pilots of learning resources and activities with students and/or staff.

2 Content / Asset Production Collaborate with Academic Teams, Learning Technologists and Media Development professionals to: Create course specific learning resources and activities that facilitate student learning and achievement. Create course specific induction/orientation resources that enable students to work effectively within the online course environment. Ensure appropriate standards of accessibility and usability are maintained. Perform quality assurance checks on all course materials before release. Adhere to all legal and procedural requirements in relation to IPR and copyright. Student Support Collaborate with Academic Teams, Learning Technologists and Learning Services Helpdesk staff to: Act as a local (online) point of contact for course specific student enquiries, providing advice and guidance and liaising with relevant departments as appropriate. Design and deliver course specific (online and face-to-face) inductions that prepare students to participate and learn within an online environment. Support the delivery of live virtual classroom sessions via online webinars (Bb Collaborate), providing support before, during and after events. Staff Development Collaborate with Academic Teams and Learning Technologists to: Act as a local point of contact for staff within the department, providing advice and guidance and liaising with relevant departments as appropriate. Provide course specific training to staff within the department to enable them to teach effectively within the online environment and manage/update their learning resources and activities as required. Inspire and support staff within the department to develop and produce their own online resources and learning activities. Professional Development Take a proactive approach to: Keep up to date with emerging technologies and approaches to online learning design and development, with a particular emphasis on their application in teacher training and development within the higher education sector. Develop and maintain internal links with colleagues across the institution who share related interests and objectives, to ensure a coordinated approach to the use of core systems and technologies across the university and exchange ideas and experience. Develop and maintain external links with relevant professional bodies and regional, national and international networks.

3 Other Duties Take responsibility for and maintain the Faculty of Education NCLT section of the University s website and ensure that it contains accurate, current and relevant information at all times. Undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Head of Professional Education and commensurate with the level of the post. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION FORM Content Developer & VLE Support Officer (Education) EHA CRITERIA: Applicants should provide evidence of their ability to meet the following criteria: Essential Desirable *Method of assessment Qualifications Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience 1 Postgraduate qualification in Teaching & Learning Support or a Technology related subject * A 2 Membership of the Association for Learning Technology, or other relevant society * A * Knowledge, Skills and Experience 3 An understanding of the concepts, principles and strategies that enable online learners to achieve and be academically successful along with the technical constraints and benefits of educational technologies 4 Experience of working with a wide range of IT applications, learning technologies and development software 5 Proficient in adding value to the learner experience using technology through: 1) The use and support of virtual learning environments eg Blackboard Learn, 2) The use and support of webinars eg Blackboard Collaborate, 3) The use and support of electronic assessment eg Blackboard/Turnitin 6 Experience of producing visually engaging, interactive and accessible learning resources and activities, that incorporate mixed media such as graphics, animation, text, audio, video and quizzes /P 7 A clear understanding of intellectual property and copyright in relation to online course development 8 Experience in designing and delivering training and support /P 9 Experience of teaching, supporting students and/or learning online
