2 PART 1 - THE ORGANISATION Rural Health West is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation. It is a company limited by guarantee, funded by the State and Commonwealth governments to support communities in rural and remote Western Australia through the recruitment and retention of a high quality, sustainable health workforce and the provision of direct community services. Further information is available at The position The Manager Research and Planning works within the senior management team to support and advise the Chief Executive Officer on all matters relating to research and planning, developing, directing and evaluating organisational research.

5 SECTION 4: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To support and advise the Chief Executive Officer on all matters relating to planning, developing, directing and evaluating organisational research. The primary duties of this position will be to conduct organisational research activities including activities designed to support program review that improves the attraction, recruitment and retention of health workforce to country Western Australia. Actively contribute to the development of a culture consistent with the values of Rural Health West. SECTION 5: LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY The applicant will work as a member of the Senior Management Team SECTION 6: STATEMENT OF DUTIES Leadership Assure the organisation and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders. Maintain up to date knowledge and expertise in rural and remote health service and workforce issues, to ensure the company keeps abreast of national and jurisdictional trends. Identify future opportunities for health workforce planning; program innovation and change to inform future strategic directions for Rural Health West. Make recommendations to the Executive Management Team, about relevant and appropriate research questions that will enhance organisational knowledge of the Western Australian rural health workforce, and incorporate into strategic direction. Identify, develop and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborations with relevant research institutions and organisations. Lead the motivation of members within the Research and Planning team. Management Responsibilities Coordinate and supervise all aspects of organisational research and planning associated with program and service reviews and quality improvement Apply advanced knowledge of research and evaluation methods and data analysis in conducting complex research projects; creating and managing large data base systems; and extracting and programming data from Rural Health West data bases and other information systems. Provide interpretive reports and papers based on advanced statistical analysis. Ensure statutory obligations, professional and ethical standards are met in all research, evaluation and planning projects Direct and oversee the Research and Planning team and human resource requirements. Actively seek opportunities to generate new research questions, projects and resources.

6 SECTION 7: SELECTION CRITERIA Essential Willingness to contribute to a positive workplace culture. Tertiary qualifications, including a significant component in quantitative data analysis and interpretation. Extensive experience with statistical software packages, such as SPSS; SASS or STATA, including experience in preparation of programming syntax. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills of an exceptional level. Excellent writing and report preparation skills. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. Desirable Knowledge of health systems relative to the delivery of health service or workforce in regional and rural areas. Experience with health workforce planning and methods. SECTION 7: APPOINTMENT FACTORS The normal working week will be 37.5 hours per week, but some additional after hours and occasional weekend work may be required. Intra/inter-state travel may be required.
