1 HP Persnal Wrkstatins - Clean (Custm) Installatin f Windws 8 This dcument pertains t HP Persnal Wrkstatin cmputers t be upgraded frm Windws 7 using a digital cpy f Windws 8 64-bit. Yu shuld perfrm a Clean Installatin (custm) that deletes all data frm the hard drive befre installing Windws 8. Please read the fllwing imprtant infrmatin befre beginning yur upgrade: Nt all Windws 8 features may be available n all Windws 7 cmputers. Yur cmputer may require additinal hardware, sftware, firmware, and/r a BIOS upgrade t install and run Windws 8. HP prvides upgrade instructins and drivers fr mst cmputers sld after Octber 1 st, Fr infrmatin abut the Micrsft Windws 8 Upgrade Offer g t and US/Hme/Faq. Check these sites frequently, as sme details may change and/r additinal infrmatin may becme available. If yu purchased yur cmputer prir t Octber 1 st, 2011, HP has nt tested r develped drivers fr yur mdel cmputer. Therefre an upgrade f yur cmputer may be difficult r impssible. Nt all Windws 8 features will be available n all cmputers, and yur particular experience with Windws 8 is determined by the capabilities f yur cmputer. HP recmmends that Persnal Wrkstatin PCs perfrm a Clean (custm) installatin t btain the best pssible Windws 8 experience. HP des nt recmmend perfrming an In-place upgrade fr Persnal Wrkstatin cmputers. A Clean installatin (custm) erases all files n the hard drive and remves any hard drive partitins befre installing Windws 8. The riginal drivers and prgrams prvided by HP (and any ther sftware yu installed), will n lnger be available and must be reinstalled r replaced with Windws 8 cmpatible versins. Even if yur cmputer supprts UEFI and has the latest firmware installed, a clean installatin and refrmatting t a GPT frmat will be required in rder t get sme security features f Windws 8. HP recmmends installing the 64-bit versin f Windws 8 fr Persnal Wrkstatin cmputers. HP will nly prvide drivers fr Windws 8 64-bit. Sftware designed fr Windws 7 r earlier perating systems may nt wrk after installing Windws 8. 1

2 HP prvides Windws 8 cmpatible sftware and updated drivers t supprt nly specific cmputer mdels. Sme graphics hardware will nt supprt the new WDDM 1.2 driver design. While the graphics shuld wrk n Windws 8, the cmputer will nt benefit frm the perfrmance imprvements available t graphics that supprt WDDM 1.2. Additinally, sme graphics cards may nt supprt the UEFI GOP feature required t supprt Seamless Bt in Windws 8. If yu want t restre the riginal perating system after upgrading, yu must btain HP recvery media befre yu upgrade. If yu seek supprt assistance frm HP after yu upgrade, HP technical supprt may request that the riginal Windws 7 perating system be restred t verify prduct functinality. If yur cmputer is sent t service r repairs after upgrading t Windws 8, yur cmputer may be re-imaged with the riginal Windws perating system and the upgraded Windws 8 perating system will be remved. After repairs are made, yu can reinstall Windws 8. Yu shuld always back up all imprtant data (persnal files, phts, vides, dcuments, applicatins, etc.) befre beginning any upgrade t avid any pssibility f lsing yur imprtant data. Yu might nt be able t view DVD mvies after upgrading. If yu currently use a DVD cdec t play DVD mvies, such as the encder that cmes with Windws 7 Prfessinal, this encder may nt be available after upgrading t Windws 8. T cntinue t play DVDs after yu upgrade, yu need t acquire the Windws 8 Media Center Pack frm Micrsft r purchase DVD playback sftware. If yu currently use DVD playback sftware frm HP, Cyberlink, r anther cmpany that des nt use the Micrsft licensed cdec, the Windws 8 installatin prcess helps yu determine if yur playback sftware is cmpatible with Windws 8 r if an update is required. If the sftware is cmpatible and yu perfrm an In-place Upgrade, yu have the ptin t keep this sftware during the upgrade. If yu perfrm a Clean Install yu must reinstall the sftware after the upgrade. System Requirements Micrsft requires that yur cmputer hardware must meet the fllwing system requirements befre yu can install Windws 8. Windws 8 wrks n the same hardware that pwers Windws 7: 1 gigahertz (GHz) r faster prcessr Minimum 2 GB RAM (64-bit), 4 GB preferred fr full functinality Minimum f 20 GB f hard drive strage available befre installatin 2

3 The latest available BIOS installed Additinal requirements t use certain features: T access the Windws Stre and t dwnlad and run apps, yu need an active Internet cnnectin and a screen reslutin f at least 1024 x 768. T snap apps, yu need a screen reslutin f at least 1366 x 768. Internet access (ISP fees might apply) Micrsft prvides an installatin wizard t check yur cmputer fr pssible cmpatibility prblems. It's a gd idea t use the installatin wizard befre attempting t upgrade t Windws 8. Fr mre infrmatin, visit the Des yur cmputer supprt advanced Windws 8 features? UEFI is Unified Extensible Firmware Interface and wrks with yur traditinal BIOS t manage interactins between the hardware and the perating system. Sme HP cmputers are cnfigured with BIOS that can be upgraded t take advantage f new Windws 8 features; such as Secure Bt and a seamless bt experience. Additinally, HP prvides hardware diagnstics and trubleshting frm the UEFI interface. T take advantage f certain features enabled by UEFI, all HP cmputers require an updated BIOS befre installing Windws 8. Hwever cmputers with UEFI als require changes t the BIOS settings befre and after the installatin. T take advantage f sme f the new features in Windws 8, the hard drive must be re-frmatted using a new file frmat (GPT). Perfrming a Clean Installatin (custm) is imprtant t create the necessary GPT partitining and enable full features. HP Wrkstatins These Persnal Wrkstatin mdels d nt have BIOS firmware that supprts UEFI r GPT disk frmatting. HP Z210 CMT Wrkstatin Windws 8 Feature Expectatins The fllwing Windws 8 features that require UEFI r GPT disk frmatting will nt be available n these mdels. HP Z210 SFF Wrkstatin HP Z400 Wrkstatin GPT Disk Partitining HP Z600 Wrkstatin Secure Bt HP Z800 Wrkstatin TPM SmartCard BitLcker 3

HP Z620 Wrkstatin Secure Bt NOTE: TPM SmartCard HP will release new BIOS versins regularly, and these Wrkstatins must have their BIOS updated with each change. 5 HP Wrkstatins A Clean (custm) installatin is especially imprtant fr these cmputers t create the necessary GPT partitining that enables full features with BIOS updates. An upgrade will require a reinstallatin f Windws 8 alng with the final BIOS versin t achieve full Windws 8 functinality. Windws 8 Feature Expectatins frm within Windws 8 Windws T G TPM 2.0 edrives Attestatin Measured Bt Updated BIOS versins can be btained frm the HP Drivers and Dwnlads web page fr yur mdel at Preparing yur cmputer fr Clean Installatin (custm) f Windws 8 This installatin ptin prepares yur cmputer fr installatin, erases all files n the hard drive and remves any hard drive partitins befre installing Windws 8. T access this ptin, yu must shutdwn the cmputer and use the installatin DVD r USB strage device t bt the cmputer. WARNING: Yu must back up all imprtant data (persnal files, phts, vides, dcuments, applicatins, etc.) befre beginning a Clean Installatin t avid lsing yur imprtant data. Step 1: Update the BIOS Upgrade t the latest BIOS befre upgrading t Windws 8. Use the fllwing steps t update the BIOS t avid pssible installatin prblems: NOTE: Upgrading the BIOS may als be required at least nce after the installatin in rder t btain full Windws 8 supprt. The final BIOS fr UEFI systems will be available in early 2013 and the BIOS must be upgraded at that time. 1. Click Start, type system int the search field, and select System Infrmatin frm the list. 2. Under the System Summary, the BIOS Versin/Date is displayed. Recrd the BIOS revisin number. 5

6 3. G t the HP Custmer Care Web site ( select Sftware and Drivers, and enter yur cmputer mdel number t find sftware and driver updates. 4. Use the SAVE ptin t dwnlad the latest available BIOS t yur hard drive. Make sure t lk thrugh all the available dwnlads and select the BIOS versin that has the highest versin number. 5. T install (flash) the BIOS, clse all sftware, discnnect all cnnected devices, remve all external strage devices and then duble-click the dwnladed BIOS. WARNING: D nt use the cmputer r discnnect the pwer until the BIOS update has cmpleted by itself and the cmputer has restarted. Step 2: Changing BIOS settings fr Windws 8 Cmputers cnfigured with UEFI fr Windws 8 must be cnfigured with UEFI Optin ROMs fr strage enabled. Intel AMT technlgy must be disabled in the BIOS befre upgrading. AMT can be enabled after UEFI versins f Intel AMT are available frm HP in a BIOS update. Mdels that can be cnfigured with UEFI HP Z1 Wrkstatin HP Z220 CMT Wrkstatin HP Z220 SFF Wrkstatin HP Z420 Wrkstatin HP Z820 Wrkstatin HP Z620 Wrkstatin NOTE: HP will release new BIOS versins regularly, and these Wrkstatins must have their BIOS updated with each change. Restart the cmputer and press the F10 key repeatedly t enter the F10 Setup menu. 2. Select yur language. 3. Set the fllwing settings accrding t yur Wrkstatin mdel: 6

7 HP Wrkstatins Z1 Z220 CMT Z220 SFF Z420 Z620 Z820 Z210 CMT Z210 SFF Z400 Z600 Z800 BIOS values and settings 7. Chse Apply Defaults and Exit t set the BIOS back t knwn defaults 8. D NOT tggle UEFI Optin ROM Supprt t Enabled. N changes are needed. 4. Press the F10 key t accept the changes and restart the cmputer. Step 3: Get sftware and drivers It is advisable t get all available recmmended sftware and driver updates while the cmputer is still using Windws G t the HP Custmer Care Web site ( select Sftware and Drivers, and enter yur cmputer mdel number. Dwnlad and save the Windws 8 hardware drivers and sftware files t yur hard drive. NOTE: If there is a Windws 8 perating system listed in the drp dwn menu, the mdel cmputer is supprted. 2. Cpy the dwnladed files t CD/DVD r a USB strage device fr use after installing Windws 8. Step 4: Dwnlad and extract strage drivers Yu may be prmpted fr strage drivers during the installatin f Windws 8. Fllw these instructins t btain and prepare the strage drivers fr installatin. 1. G t the HP Custmer Care Web site ( select Sftware and Drivers, and enter yur cmputer mdel number. Dwnlad and save the Windws 8 hardware drivers and sftware files t yur hard drive. NOTE: If there is a Windws 8 perating system listed in the drp dwn menu, the mdel cmputer is supprted. 7

8 2. Under the Drivers - Strage sectin, dwnlad each f the strage drivers listed. 3. Extract each driver frm its Sftpaq (withut installing it). 4. Cpy the dwnladed flder(s) with the extracted strage drivers t CD/DVD r a USB strage device fr use during the Windws 8 installatin. Step 5: Obtain r create Recvery discs and back up yur imprtant files If yu have nt already dne s, btain r create a set f Windws 7 system recvery discs. If a prblem ccurs during the upgrade prcess, yu can use recvery discs t return yur cmputer back t its riginal sftware cnfiguratin. T create yur persnal set f recvery discs fr the Z210, Z400, Z600, Z800, Z1, and Z220 Wrkstatins, see Yu can use Micrsft Backup and Restre Center r Micrsft Windws Easy Transfer t back up yur Windws files and transfer them t Windws 8. Micrsft Windws Easy Transfer cmes with Windws 7 and makes backing up files easy. If yu want t backup yur files using ther sftware, yu must first verify that it is cmpatible with Windws 8 befre using it. Yu will als need a cpy f the sftware's installatin files n a USB drive r disc. D nt use backup sftware that is nt cmpatible with Windws 8! When finished, verify that the backup was successful and that yu can access yur files. Step 6: Dwnlad a digital cpy f Windws 8 If yu purchased a retail DVD f Windws 8, fllw the Micrsft installatin instructins prvided in the packaging. T dwnlad a digital cpy f Windws 8 yu need: Windws 7 cmputer (that yu intend t upgrade) with at least 6GB f free disk space. Netwrk cnnectin t the Internet. 1. Open an Internet brwser and g t t find the Windws 8 Upgrade Assistant. 2. Run the Windws 8 Upgrade Assistant. NOTE: Windws 8 Upgrade Assistant may identify needed drivers r sftware. Be sure yu have btained the identified drivers r sftware befre installing Windws The Windws 8 Upgrade Assistant helps yu purchase the Windws 8 Upgrade frm Micrsft. After purchasing Windws 8, the Upgrade Assistant prvides a Prduct Key (5 grups f alpha-numeric characters). Write dwn the Prduct Key fr future reference. 8

Yu can chse t either create a btable USB flash drive r burn a DVD disc frm an ISO file. Select the ptin yu prefer and click Next. 9

11 7. If yu chse t create a USB flash drive, select the USB flash drive frm the list and click Next. Figure 6: Select a USB flash drive 8. After the files are burned t the DVD r a USB strage device, label the disc r strage device and stre it in a safe place. Things t expect during installatin 11

12 Incmpatible prgrams - The installatin examines the cmputer fr pssible cmpatibility prblems. Sme prgrams need t be uninstalled and the cmputer restarted befre the installatin can cntinue. Interrupting the installatin - The installatin can be stpped and restarted at certain predefined pints. When restarting the cmputer, a set f prmpts allw yu t either: Cntinue where yu were, r Start Over. UAC security - The Micrsft User Accunt Cntrl Settings displays a prmpt and requires yu t verify that yu want the listed prgram t make changes in yur cmputer. This prevents a malware r a virus frm trying t install sftware. If prmpted, D yu want t allw the fllwing prgram t make changes t this cmputer? and the Prgram's Name is listed as Micrsft Windws and Verified Publisher as Micrsft Crpratin, click Yes t allw the actin. Chse a User Name and Passwrd - By default Windws 8 is designed t seamlessly integrate yur new cmputer int the Internet r Clud with ther scial media and devices using a Micrsft cnnected user accunt; such as Instant Messenger, Gmail, r Htmail accunt. Lcal Accunt - Yu can enter a unique user name and passwrd that is valid nly n this lcal cmputer t keep this cmputer as an independent device that is nt linked t ther devices. Yu can still manually cnnect t the Clud t share files later. Micrsft Accunt - If yu use yur Micrsft cnnected user accunt t lgn, this cmputer autmatically links int all the ther mbile devices and user infrmatin yu have stred n all yur scial netwrking accunts. Allw multiple restarts - The cmputer will restart multiple times during the installatin prcess. Yu can either remve the installatin DVD during the restart, r ignre the prmpt t Press any key t bt frm the CD r DVD... Install Windws 8 1. Exit all prgrams, discnnect all peripheral devices, and remve all USB strage devices and SD cards. 2. If yu have Internet, cnnect the cmputer t the Internet using either an Ethernet cable (Wired NIC), r turn wireless buttn On (Wireless LAN). 3. Insert the Windws 8 installatin DVD r USB strage device drive int the cmputer and shut dwn the PC. 4. Turn n the cmputer and press the F9 key t enter the Bt Optin Menu. The Bt Optins menu is shwn with UEFI Bt Surces at the tp f the list and Legacy at the bttm. 5. UEFI mdels - Using the arrw keys select DVD Drive r USB Device under UEFI Bt Surces and press Enter. Nn-UEFI mdels - Using the arrw keys select DVD Drive r USB Device under Legacy and press Enter. 12

13 6. When prmpted t Press any key t bt frm CD r DVD, press Enter. NOTE: UEFI mdels - If yu d nt press a key when the Press any key t bt frm CD r DVD message appears, the cmputer defaults t the legacy bt. Yu will need t stp the installatin, rebt the cmputer, reselect the UEFI bt device, and Press any key t bt frm CD r DVD Allwing Legacy bt befre installing Windws 8 prevents GPT frmatting f the hard drive and des nt enable full feature capability. 7. When the required files are laded and the Windws 8 installatin screen displays, click Install nw t begin the installatin prcess. Figure 7: Setup is starting displays n screen 8. When prmpted, select the desired Language, Time, and Keybard, and then click Next. 13

14 9. When prmpted t enter Prduct key, fllw the n-screen instructins and enter in yur Prduct Key (5 grups f alpha-numeric characters withut the dashes). When the crrect Prduct Key is entered, a cnfirmatin message Yur prduct key wrks! Cntinue when yu re ready displays. Click Next t cntinue. If, after multiple attempts the prduct key entry is nt successful, cntact Micrsft supprt ( fr help with yur prduct key. 14

15 10. When prmpted t review the End User Agreement terms, read the agreement, select I accept the license terms if yu agree t the terms, and then click Accept. 11. After the End User Agreement is accepted, tw installatin ptins are displayed: an in-place Upgrade, r a clean Custm Installatin. Select Custm Installatin. 12. Verify that yu have backed up all yur imprtant files and created r btained an HP recvery slutin. After cmpleting this step, all files will be destryed withut further warning. 13. A screen pens titled Where d yu want t install Windws?. This screen lists the drive partitins available n the hard drive - that is, the strage space Windws Setup can use t install Windws 8. T cntinue, use ne f the fllwing actins t install Windws n a hard drive partitin: Delete all partitins and install n ne partitin f maximum size (advanced): Select drive ptins t enable mre ptins n the screen and delete all partitins in the list. Once all the partitins have been remved, yu can create ne new partitin f maximum available size and frmat it. Once yu have ne partitin and it is frmatted, select this partitin and click Next t cntinue. Create mre than ne partitin and install n ne f them (advanced): Select drive ptins t enable mre ptins n the screen and delete all partitins in the list. Once all the partitins have been remved, yu can create new partitins f different sizes and frmat them. One f these partitins must be at least 20GB in size t allw fr the installatin f windws 8. Using this methd allws yu t set aside separate partitins f strage space t be used in Windws 8 as additinal drive vlumes (in File manager and Cmputer). Once yu 15

16 have ne partitin and it is frmatted, select a partitin that is 20GB r larger and click Next t cntinue. 14. If yu are prmpted t install strage drivers use the extracted strage drivers that yu cpied t a CD/DVD r USB strage device. i. If necessary, remve the Windws 8 installatin disc and insert the CD/DVD that the extracted strage drivers are stred n. See Step 4: Dwnlad and extract strage drivers n this page fr mre infrmatin. ii. Brwse t the apprpriate driver directry n the CD/DVD r USB strage device. iii. De-select the Hide Drivers ptin. iv. Select the driver yu wish t install and click Next. v. Repeat steps 2-4 until all strage drivers are laded. vi. After lading all f the strage drivers, frmat the OS partitin n the hard drive. Yu will see an errr message indicating that the OS cannt be installed n the selected partitin. vii. Remve the CD/DVD r USB strage device that cntains the extracted strage drivers and insert the Windws 8 installatin DVD r USB strage device. viii. Click Refresh then click Next. 15. After Windws 8 is installed, a Persnalize prmpt displays. Use the hrizntal slider t chse a backgrund and text clr, enter a name fr the cmputer, and then click Next. Figure 8: Persnalize Windws 8 16

17 16. If the Wireless prmpt displays, yu may either cnnect t yur netwrk nw r later. Figure 9: Wireless netwrk cnnectin Select yur wireless netwrk frm the list and click Cnnect. If yu d nt wish t cnnect t a wireless netwrk, click Cnnect t a wireless netwrk later. NOTE: The wireless netwrk ptin is nt displayed if the cmputer was nt previusly cnnected t a wireless netwrk, r if there is n wireless 17

18 netwrk detected in the area. Yu can setup the wireless netwrk later after the installatin cmpletes. 17. When the Settings screen pens, review the list f netwrk and sharing ptins. By default, t cmplete the installatin as quickly as pssible, Micrsft recmmends that yu use Express Settings. If yu want t accept the default settings and allw Micrsft t manage yur cmputer, click Use express settings. If yu wish t review ptins and make changes t these settings, click Custmize and select the individual ptins. 18. When prmpted t Sign in t yur PC, yu must make a chice as t hw yu want t manage this cmputer: Select Lcal accunt t keep this cmputer as an independent device that is nt linked t ther devices. Yu can change settings at a later time t share files and resurces with ther devices. Select Micrsft accunt t link this cmputer t ther mbile devices and user infrmatin yu have stred n the Micrsft netwrk. Figure 10: Sign in t yur PC 18

19 19. Once yu select the type f accunt, when prmpted t Sign in t yur PC, enter the required User Name and Passwrd, and click Next. If yu lgin using a Micrsft cnnected accunt, enter security verificatin inf. Yu may als change the listed phne and alternate inf frm yur existing Micrsft cnnected accunt at this time. 20. Allw the cmputer t cntinue the installatin. A message PC is Ready displays fr a few secnds when the installatin is cmplete. Once installatin is cmplete, update drivers, install sftware and restre yur backed up files. G t the Steps t take after upgrading t Windws 8 sectin fr mre infrmatin. 19

When the cmputer starts, repeatedly press the F10 key t enter the BIOS r Setup menu. 2. Use the arrw keys t select the System Cnfiguratin tab. 3. Select Secure Bt and press Enter. Select Enabled and press Enter. 4. Press F10 t exit the BIOS menu and save the current changes. After the cmputer starts, if yu are prmpted t cnfirm that yu wish t enable Secure Bt, enter the 4 digit number displayed in the message and press Enter. Steps t take after upgrading t Windws 8 1. Cnnect t the Internet if yur cmputer is nt already cnnected. 2. Install.NET Framewrk Many imprtant drivers and prgrams require.net Framewrk 3.5. In Cntrl Panel, select Prgrams and Features, Turn Windws features n r ff, and then select Micrsft.NET Framewrk

If yu dwnladed the drivers earlier use the drivers stred n yur CD/DVD r USB strage device.
