2 ABOUT THE CCFP ROUNDTABLE, AND THE CHILD & ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM The CACFP The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which dates back to a 1968 pilot program, provides federal funds and USDA-donated foods to nonresidential child care and adult day care facilities to serve nutritious meals and snacks. Federal funds come in the form of reimbursements to participating institutions for meals served meeting program requirements. The CACFP operates in child care centers, outside-school-hours-care centers, family child care homes (since 1975), and certain adult day care centers (since 1987), homeless shelters and after-school programs (since 1998). Nationwide approximately 1.8 billion meals are served annually to 3 million participants on the CACFP. In California alone, in , an average of 324,000 children participated daily in 26,000 child care facilities and licensed family child care homes. That translates into an average of 38 million breakfasts, 52 million lunches, 13 million suppers and 61 million snacks served in such facilities on the program. CACFP program operators are the decision makers when it comes to menu planning and food purchasing. CACFP sponsors influence those decisions through nutrition education and training, menu review and approval and onsite monitoring. The CCFP Roundtable Established in 1977 (before the adult component was added to the program) to give California sponsors a voice, the Child Care Food Program (CCFP) Roundtable has become an influential voice nationally for the CACFP. Working cooperatively with the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division (NSD), the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National CACFP Forum, the California Food Policy Advocates (CFPA), the Child Care Resource and Referral Network and other regional and national program and children s advocates, the Roundtable constantly seeks to improve program integrity and quality, as well as provide a voice for program sponsors, providers, parents and, most importantly, the children. Our Mission The mission of the Child Care Food Program Roundtable is to promote health and well-being of children in child care by providing leadership and advocating for enhanced and expanded CACFP. Our Annual Conference Since 1992, the CCFP Roundtable has sponsored a highly successful fall CACFP conference which attracts participants from California and throughout the country. The premiere event of its kind, the Roundtable s Annual CACFP Conference provides nutrition education and training for conference attendees. It is known for its top level speakers and workshop presenters who provide cutting-edge information, training and policy/advocacy updates. Recent speakers have included Connie Evers, nationally recognized nutrition education consultant, author and frequent guest on radio and television programs; Ellyn Satter, nationally recognized author and lecturer; Dr. Antronette Yancey, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services at UCLA School of Public Health; Dayle Hayes, an award-winning author, educator and pioneer dietitian in electronic nutrition communications; Dr. Susan Johnson, Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; Janice Lebeuf, nutrition consultant for North Carolina TRAINING FOR CACFP SUCCESS 1

3 Department of Health and Human Services and Director of NC Healthy Weight Initiative; Dr. Katherine Thomas Thomas, Associate Professor at Iowa State University, Department of Health and Human Performance; Dr. Harold Goldstein, Director of the California Center for Public Health Advocacy; Barbara Storper, director and founder of FOODPLAY Productions, an Emmy Award-winning nutrition and health theater and video company; Dr. Christine Wood, a nationally recognized pediatrician, author and lecturer; and Dr. Richard Jackson, Adjunct Professor of Environmental Health at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health. This year s theme, Training for CACFP Success, underscores the fact that maintaining a well trained staff is the key to CACFP success. Program rules and regulations are constantly changing. Staff turnover these days with the baby boomers retiring and the slow economy is the norm. Organizations have a real challenge in maintaining knowledgeable program staff. Our conference can assist you in achieving this goal and provide opportunities for networking and best practice sharing. 6 EXHIBITOR INFORMATION & DEADLINE A very limited number of exhibit tables are available to sponsors and exhibitors. Priority will be given to conference sponsors followed by exhibitors on a first-come, first-paid basis. EXHIBIT DAY: Exhibit day is Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in the Gardenia Room. Exhibit hours are 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM; setup is at 7:00 AM. Exhibitors should plan to use the loading dock and freight elevator to the ballroom. EXHIBIT TABLES: Exhibit tables are standard 6 x 30 draped table with two chairs. ELECTRICAL HOOKUP/INTERNET ACCESS: Exhibitors should plan on bringing their own power strips and extension cords. There is a $375 daily Internet access fee charged by the hotel with each additional wireless connection for $25. If you need Internet access and advise us ahead of time we can arrange to share the costs between all interested exhibitors (e.g., for two connections the fee would be $200 each, for three $142). DELIVERIES: Exhibitors wishing to send materials to the hotel must follow these guidelines: The hotel charges for package handling. We will pay the $5 fee for your first 0-5 pound package (heavier packages are more). Charges for additional packages will be billed after the conference. Packages may not arrive earlier than 3 business days prior to your arrival date.
