An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants Job Profile Post Title: Department: Media Technician Media/English Department Grade: Scale 4 Three days per week term time, flexible Term time only plus 5 days Responsible to: Head of Subject: Media Main Duties and Responsibilities: Technical assistance with KS4 & KS5 Media Studies Productions, from pre-to postproduction stages Technical support and assistance in KS3 & KS4 Media Studies lessons Staff training in video/photographic/sound production & post-production Filming school and student rehearsals and performances Assisting other Faculties with the filming of examination candidates Assisting with sound recording Analogue to digital video conversion Workstation hardware maintenance Data storage systems management Maintenance of the AS/A Level Media Studies Master Blog The compilation of CDs and DVDs Ordering of stock and equipment The signing in and out and general maintenance of equipment Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of the Adobe Production Premium Suite (CS6), including Photoshop, Premiere Pro & After Effects Knowledge and understanding of DVD authoring software, such as Adobe Encore Knowledge and understanding of sequencing software including Cubase
2 Experience in a school, office or administration environment including operational knowledge of Microsoft Office A minimum of three passes at GCSE Grade C or above (including English Language and Mathematics) Skills: High levels of technical expertise Film-making expertise Strong oral communication skills Initiative: Able to work on own initiative Excellent team player Able to make decisions regarding technical issues/problems Able to prioritise and meet deadlines Demands: Contact with staff, students, parents/carers, external organisations, community groups Flexibility in working hours People Responsibilities: Liaising with: Internal: Teaching and support staff within the School, users of the School, voluntary helpers and pupils External: Parents/Carers, staff in other schools and community organisations Resources: Video/photographic production equipment ICT equipment Media Technician s Office/Studio Conditions: School environment This job profile is not a restrictive outline, but indicates a range of duties. 3 PERSON SPECIFICATION ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW IDENTIFIED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS (INCLUDING ANY RELEVANT OR REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS) Working knowledge of film-making techniques and industrystandard software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro & Adobe After Effects. Experience in still photography and post-production software Basic understanding of camera hardware Ability to oversee and maintain the signing in and out of media equipment Working knowledge of audio editing software/ other operating systems. (Cubase, Sibelius). Experience in audio recording/production. References Certificates Effective use of ICT packages including PC and Mac software PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ADDITIONAL LEARNING Personal interest & understanding in film & other media Understanding of basic safeguarding practice & working with students References Certificates EXPERIENCE Working knowledge of film-making and editing techniques and photographic manipulation Experience in data storage systems management Experience in the compilation of CDs & DVDs Certificates Experience in audio recording Blogging/website design experience

6 Calder High SchoolAdvertisement Permanent We are seeing to appoint from September 2014, a creative, skilful and organised Media Technician, to support the Media Department. You will be joining a thriving and successful Department, with a large cohort of students at both GCSE and A Level, with a particular focus on high quality film production. The role of the Media Technician is practical in nature, and requires an organised professional, who is capable of offering technical support to Media students and teachers alike, as well as organising and maintaining resources and equipment. You would also be willing to contribute to whole school media productions as necessary, as well as working with outside agencies and community based projects. The post requires an applicant who has a genuine interest in and understanding of various media, is proactive, able to work independently and able to manage deadlines. The x hours will ideally be over x days, however all candidates need flexibility and an ability to work flexi time during school term time. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and motivated professional and would be suitable for an enthusiastic experienced technician.
