Right now we are starting our most ambitious campaign for decades, the Protection of the High Arctic from over industrialisation. This is an exciting, but immensely challenging campaign, and it makes it an important time to boost financial support for Greenpeace s work. Greenpeace UK employs approximately 100 people at its offices in Canonbury Villas, Islington. Staff work in areas as diverse as campaigns, media, fundraising, mobilisation, administration, finance, personnel and direct actions. The Greenpeace office has been purpose-designed and aims to provide the best possible working conditions on an environmentally sound basis. We have a vegetarian café four days/week serving organic food for staff and visitors. Greenpeace currently has over 100,000 supporters in the UK and is funded by supporter subscriptions and donations from individuals. Greenpeace does not accept corporate or government donations, to maintain our independence and enable us to campaign without fear of compromise. 2
3 Our Campaigns Greenpeace campaigns in the UK are designed to implement the overall global campaign strategy of Greenpeace International but also reflect national and regional concerns. In 2014 the main priority campaign in the UK will be climate change; our other key campaigns are forests, ocean protection and disarmament. Our campaigns are not just about raising problems, but also promoting the solutions to those problems, such as renewable energy and clean production methods. The Programme Department is at the core of the organisation and comprises the following units; campaigns, news, mobilisation, art & editorial, images, investigations and political. Our campaigns are split into Project Teams; Energy, Arctic, Oceans and Forests. A Project Leader heads up each project team, which usually comprises campaigners, an online campaigner, press officer and art & editorial coordinator. The Project Teams also work together with a number of specialists in areas such as direct action, science, fundraising, political and legal work. Campaigners are at the frontline of Greenpeace s work. They develop strategy and tactics and design and implement project work. The post of Temporary Head of Mobilisation & who we are looking for This post will be based in our London office and is full time and temporary for 6 months, to start as soon as possible. Greenpeace UK s mobilisation team is a key part of the organisation, responsible for recruiting new people to our growing movement via digital channels and providing ample and diverse opportunities for them to take action to deliver change. As head of mobilisation, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards in creative communications and innovative mobilisation tactics, working with the dedicated team to achieve even greater success. 3
4 We re looking for someone who knows the power of digital channels to mobilise huge numbers of people to bring about change, able to use their strategic insight and expert knowledge to identify the best ways to deliver our campaign goals using social media, and whatever comes next. In any given week your work will cover a huge range: from co-ordinating the online components of a massive direct action such as climbing the Shard and collaborating with colleagues in fundraising and volunteering to deepen our relationship with supporters, to editing kick-ass copy and analysing data to see which are our most powerful online channels. As you ll be juggling multiple projects and ideas at any one time, this role will test your strategic and planning abilities, as well as your management and negotiation skills. You ll also be able to foster a collaborative, supportive atmosphere to help produce some of the most recognised campaigns of recent years. You ll believe in our aims and have at least four years experience in online organising, campaigning or communications. You will be part of the management team, contributing to organisational planning decisions, and will need to play an active role in the wider international organisation. 5 JOB DESCRIPTION POST: UNIT: Temporary Head of Mobilisation (6 month contract) Programme GRADE: 4 RESPONSIBLE TO: Programme Director PEOPLE MANAGEMENT: Deputy Head of Mobilization (line management) Community strategist (line management0 Mobilisation team members (matrix and pastoral management, as well as specialist oversight) OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB: Mass mobilisation using digital channels - , social media, and online - to increase the number of people who are part of the Greenpeace movement, and provide ample and diverse opportunities to take action that delivers concrete change. The purpose of this post is to maximise the ability of the mobilisation team to deeply engage large numbers of people in our campaign, volunteering and fundraising work. Core to this is leading a team who feel confident to create and innovate within their project areas and have the necessary skills and oversight to create first-rate mobilisation strategy and content. Beyond the team, the Head of Mobilisation plays an active role in contributing to the overall priorities and direction of Greenpeace UK campaign work. MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 1. Skills & expertise a) Ensuring growth in our online supporter base and improving the responsiveness and quality of the relationships through strong mobilisation strategies b) Collaborating with Outreach, Actions and Fundraising teams to deepen relationships with supporters c) Establishing and delivering upon ambitious goals to increase recruitment and engagement across , social media and online d) Developing and applying metrics to set out our ambition and measure our progress e) Taking responsibility for testing, monitoring and improving performance of mobilisation work f) Reporting this analysis to other teams and other decision-makers in the organisation 5

9 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT PAY The post of Temporary Head of Mobilisation is graded on Greenpeace Grade 4 and the salary scale for a 37.5 hour week is as follows: Point Salary per annum 19 42, , , , , ,460 The commencing salary will be on point 13, 42,420 per annum pro rata. Increments are awarded each January subject to satisfactory service and at least six months in post/grade. Any relevant cost of living increases are normally applied, subject to Board approval, in January each year. Salaries are paid midmonthly via bank credit transfer. WORKING HOURS The full time working week is currently 37.5 hours. There may be occasions when these hours are exceeded and unsocial hours working may be required. Overtime is not paid, but time off in lieu can be negotiated with your line manager. LEAVE Annual leave is 25 days per year plus one additional day for every full year of employment up to a maximum of 7 additional days for fulltime staff. Leave is calculated on a pro-rata basis for part time staff. We also offer generous parental and special leave. PENSION SCHEME Greenpeace runs a contributory Pension Scheme held with Aviva for the benefit of its employees, with optional Salary Sacrifice. Greenpeace contributes 8.5% of your basic salary, provided employees contribute at least 3%. 9
10 PROBATIONARY PERIOD All new employees will be required to undertake a period of probation for six months, in which time you will be expected to establish your suitability for the post. At the end of this period and subject to a satisfactory performance you will be transferred to the established staff. RELOCATION EXPENSES Greenpeace offers assistance towards relocation expenses in certain cases. If you think you might require such assistance you should raise this with the HR unit if you are offered the position. LOANS Greenpeace offers an interest free season ticket loan. Loans can also be obtained for the purchase of a bicycle to be used for travel to and from work. LIFE ASSURANCE Greenpeace offers a life assurance scheme covering death incurred during employment. Further details about these benefits will be provided if appointed. TRADE UNION MEMBERSHIP Greenpeace recognises the Unite Union.
