1 Recovery College Co-ordinator Job Description Job Title: Recovery College Co-ordinator Band: 7 Location: Recovery College, Ulster Hospital In order to meet the needs of the Trust s services you may be required to work outside your normal place of work. The Trust reserves the right to change your normal place of work to any other location within the Trust. Accountable to: Line Manager: Assistant Director for Mental Health Service Improvement Manager Job Purpose: To manage the Trust wide Recovery College hub and Spoke model, ensuring that it provides a high quality service that is focussed on delivering a range of recovery focussed courses and workshops for service users, staff, relatives, friends and carers across the trust. To engage in the development, evaluation and promotion of the centre in designing and the delivery of a range of complex and sensitive recovery focussed courses and workshops, using a Hub and Spoke model, under the direction of the Trust Service Improvement Manager. To hold responsibility for the day to day operational management of the Recovery College. To work alongside the Service Improvement Manager to develop opportunities and career structures for peer trainers and peer support workers Main Responsibilities:
2 1. To be the specialist lead at the Recovery College in the management and delivery of services at the Recovery College. 2. To become the expert in Recovery College principles and pracitces and to model these throughout the service. 3. To manage the Recovery College ensuring that the centre develops, creates and delivers a range of recovery focused courses/workshops for service users, staff, relatives, friends and carers in a way that promotes and respects of co-production. 4. To lead the Recovery college team in delivering all aspects of the college core business with a focus on principles of recovery and social inclusion. 5. To ensure that all courses/workshop are based on a coaching paradigm and adheres to the core principles of adult learning. 6. To co-facilitate courses/workshops with Peer and Mental Health Practitioner trainers. 7. Maximise the cost-effectiveness of the service and assume responsibility for the management and utilisation of the recovery college budget ensuring the service operates within budget. 8. Consult and inform the Service Improvement Manager and Recovery College sub-group of any issues that may affect the running of the service. 9. To keep the staff team informed of local service developments and Trust wide developments via regular team meetings. 10. To be available to work outside of normal working hours if & when required 11. Working under the direction of the recovery college operational steering group & business planning group, compile and present the service s annual reports and business plan. 12. To monitor and evaluate standards of service delivery ensuring the planning and implementation of services are undertaken in a way that promotes and respects of co-production. 13. Working under the direction of the Recovery College operational steering group, co-ordinate regular and thorough service reviews ensuring services develop in line with national agendas and new initiatives.

To ensure that the activities of all team members are conducted within a framework of accountability, ensuring that regular supervision is given to all staff and that all staff participate in an annual appraisal. 15. To ensure that the college is running in line with the trust policies and procedures. 16. To liaise as necessary with Trust support services, such as Human Resources, Occupational Health, Site Services, Estates, Procurement and Finance etc. 17. To collate monthly manpower returns and weekly agency returns as required. 18. To attend and contribute to management and professional meetings as necessary. 19. Regularly update knowledge of current professional developments and developments in the mental health field. 20. Coordinate placements as appropriate in the service ensuring a good learning environment is maintained. 21. Attend regular supervision with the line manager. 22. Maintain annual registration with relevant professional body and where relevant, that college staff do the same. 23. To provide an effective recruitment and retention strategy, participating in the process of recruitment for staff within the college. 24. To implement, in accordance with Trust Guidelines, a system of gathering, evaluating and analysing statistical information in relation to training activity. Communication: 1. To communicate at the highest level and liaise with a range of professionals within the Trust, including director for adult services, assistant director for mental health, service improvement manager, peer support manager, professional leads, managers, care coordinators, peer support workers, service users as well as other external agencies to identify and deliver Recovery Courses/Workshops.
4 2. To communicate and consult with service users, community and voluntary agencies and other stakeholders on the development and management of the Recovery College. 3. To facilitate and support effective communication within the team and between the team and other services inerternally and with external organisations. Training: 1. To be responsible for identifying own training and development needs and those of all staff to ensure high quality service provision. 2. To ensure all staff and students in the recovery college have a comprehensive local induction on commencing with the service. Policy and Service Development: 1. To be an active member of local and Trust-wide meetings as appropriate. 2. To devise, implement and evaluate service policies and procedures where necessary; ensuring that all staff understand and follow them. 3. Regularly update professional knowledge and knowledge of developments in the mental health and adult learning fields. 4. To liaise regularly with other services in order to share service development and avoid duplication. 5. Working with the Recovery College business planning group, develop the possibilities for selling training packages to external organisations and individuals. Rider Clause This is an outline of the post holder s duties and responsibilities. Efficiency and Service Reform The Trust will continue to focus on the efficiency and effectiveness of services, improve organisational capability within available finances. 5. Our Staff The Trust will continue to build a stable, highly motivated workforce that is committed to a culture of continuous development and ultimately service improvement. 6. Stakeholder Engagement The Trust will ensure that it listens to and learns from patients, clients, carers and other interested parties in the planning and delivery of services. Records Management All employees of the Trust are legally responsible for all records held, created or used as part of their business within the Trust including patient/client, corporate and administrative records whether paper based or electronic and also including s. All such records are public records and are accessible to the general public, with limited exceptions, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Data Protection Act Employees are required to be conversant with the Trust s policy and procedures on records management and to seek advice if in doubt. Environmental Cleaning Strategy The Trust s Environmental Cleaning Strategy, recognises the key principle that Cleanliness Matters. It is everyone s responsibility, not just the cleaners. Whilst there are staff employed by the Trust who are responsible for cleaning services, all staff employed by the Trust have a responsibility to ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and members of the general public.
7 Infection Prevention & Control All Staff should co-operate fully with regard to Trust policies and procedures relating to infection prevention and control. All staff should be aware of the Trust s Infection Prevention & Control strategy and their local reduction of infection plan and know their role, in keeping with key principle Infection Prevention and Control is everyone s business. Staff, in delivery of all care must:- -Wash their hands thoroughly between each patient contact. - Be compliant with Standard Infection Control Precautions, Hand Hygiene and decontamination and other relevant infection prevention and control measures. - Be aware of the Infection Control guidance within the Trust s Infection Control Manual and ensure they obtain mandatory Infection prevention control training or other specific infection control related training as required. Hygiene & Prevention of Infection You will at all times be required to observe hygiene/infection prevention & control standards and notices in operation throughout the Trust. Hygiene and control of - infection are key elements in delivery of safe, quality services and you will, in certain jobs, be required to undertake an appropriate training course at the expense of the Trust. Personal Public involvement Staff members are expected to involve patients, clients and their families in developing, planning and delivering our services in a meaningful and effective way, as part of the Trust s Personal Public Involvement (PPI) Strategy. Location Please note that it is a standard condition that all Trust staff may be required to work at any location within the Trust s area, as needs of the service demand. Experience of delivering Recovery and social inclusion focussed practice Experience of developing unit costs Teaching experience LS, KNOWLEDGE, ITIES Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written & verbal) Understanding the issues relating to the concept of social exclusion and the principles of recovery. Understanding of adult learning principles Ability to share the responsibility of carrying out a range of practical tasks associated with running a service and a building including petty cash, managing the H&S environment etc Knowledge of legislation pertaining to mental health. Knowledge of CPA Ability to deal with pressure, prioritisation and delegation and meeting deadlines An ability to understand and implement the Equal Opportunities Policy at a level appropriate to the job.
