Who We Are The Chili Kickoff Cookoff For Make-A-Wish is the brainchild of Matt and Judy Schnell, but it s probably best to say that child is now an adolescent. Matt started raising money for Make-A-Wish in 2008, organizing the annual Big Hitter s Golf Outing, which raised more than $20,000 for Make-A-Wish in five years. That wasn t enough, so he and Judy opened their own home and created SchnelltemberFest, an Oktoberfest-style party full of music, raffles and auction items that raised $29,000 in 2012 alone. SchnelltemberFest grew into the Chili Kickoff Cookoff For Make-A-Wish and debuted in 2013 at Nevin s Brewing Company in Plainfield. Almost 350 fans of chili, football and Make-A-Wish bought tickets and sampled the creations of 16 chili teams, tried their luck buying tickets for great raffle prizes, enjoyed live music from The WaterDawgs and left knowing they played a part in granting the wishes of three wonderful kids who asked for one wish and got so much more. We raised more than $21,000 that day and probably generated twice as many smiles. Matt and Judy are doubling their efforts for 2014 and are aspiring to double the number of wishes they fulfill. They have recruited more than a dozen wellconnected friends, colleagues and Make-A-Wish organizers to help them reach this lofty goal. This committee comes from different backgrounds, professions and locations in the Chicagoland area, but they have all dedicated their diverse talents to one purpose: making life better for as many children as possible through Make-A-Wish. 92% of parents saw their children experience re-empowerment to take back the ability to make decisions in their lives Make-A-Wish is a well-respected charity that garners consistently high ratings from charity-watch groups. The organization allocates 77 percent of what it brings in to granting wishes. It s a strong and trusted brand, and that s why the Chili Kickoff Cookoff For Make-A-Wish team works so hard for it. Matt, Judy and everyone who work with them have raised more than $100,000 and have delivered smiles for 16 kids since 2008. Attendee Demographics Naperville s Ashbury community best represents the attendee demographics of the Chili Kickoff Cookoff For Make-A-Wish because it is where the early fundraising events were hosted. As the event has grown the residents of Ashbury have invited their friends and the attendees travel from DuPage and Will counties. We are young families with children; 94.1% are married, 78.8% married with children the average household size is 4.0. The median age is 26.0, eight years younger than the median age in Naperville. The average adult age is 39, with the majority of children between 5 and 15. The median income is $123,348, 25% greater than the median income of Naperville residents. The average home value is $574,706, 11% greater than the Naperville average; the majority of houses were built 15-20 years ago. Over 80% have received a postsecondary degree, and over 20% of them have received postgraduate degrees. Additional Exposure - Cavalcade of Homes Demographics We are excited to share with our sponsors the support of the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association (NIHBA) Cavalcade of Homes. The NIHBA is supporting the Chili Kickoff Cookoff by offering our sponsors advertising space at its event. Sponsor logos will be displayed on a banner during the three-week Cavalcade and on a half-page ad in the plan book. To take advantage of this exposure, we will need a sponsorship commitment by July 1 st. The Cavalcade of Homes tour will take place July 26 August 17, 2014, in Naperville s Ashwood Park North subdivision. Attendance to the Cavalcade of Homes is expected to exceed 25,000 people over the three-week period. The event will showcase 6 custom model homes to prospective homebuyers. The Cavalcade will showcase many vendors and remodeling contractors, making this a must-see show of the summer! A wide variety of family-oriented events are planned for this year s show as well as a full schedule of community-based group programs.
