2 Introduction from our honourary chair Hello and Welcome, On Thursday, November 7 th, 2013, Christie Lake Kids (CLK) is presenting An Unlikely Pairing: Adventures in Food Trucks and Fine Wine. This is our second annual fundraising gala and we are thrilled to be hosting this event at the beautiful and historic Ashbury College this year. Also joining us will be CLK s media ambassadors and MC s for the evening, CTV Ottawa journalists Katie Griffin and Stefan Keyes. Christie Lake Kids mission is to enrich the lives of children who live in poverty. By providing year-round recreational programming to develop physical, artistic and social skills, our programs strengthen their mental health, wellbeing, and overall self-esteem and self-awareness. Children who live in poverty often encounter multiple barriers to participation. Those barriers go beyond the financial aspect and include mental health, physical disabilities, immigrant status and gender. Essentially, children who most need recreational programs are least likely to attend them. At Christie Lake Kids, we remove barriers. Through our Camp and Inner City Programs, our children and youth gain social skills including problem-solving, conflict-resolution and selfcontrol. Our gala theme this year is An Unlikely Pairing: Adventures in Food Trucks and Fine Wine. Ever wondered what sort of food pairs nicely with really good wine? Well here is your chance to find out. We have several food trucks who will be cooking up their most popular dishes together with experienced wine sommeliers pairing them with some of the finest wine from around the world. An Unlikely Pairing is all about giving an educational experience while raising funds to benefit the children and youth of Christie Lake Kids. 3 Food Truck Craze Food trucks are a national sensation, with huge followings here in Ottawa. Perhaps one of the biggest trends in contemporary cuisine, the food truck is a spin on ordinary street food. They can serve anything from pizza to sushi from a cart or truck no bigger than your office cubicle. The food truck trend isn t defined by a definitive cuisine, style or price point; it just means food on wheels. Ottawa food trucks are both plentiful and inventive, serving up delicious gourmet tacos, inventive sushi, and much much more. Christie Lake Kids facts $1,500 is the cost to send 1 child to camp for a 12 day session. $2,500 would give 5 children the opportunity to participate in S.T.A.R. programs for an entire year. $5,000 would help teach 19 children how to cook in our cooking program. $6,500 would give 10 children the opportunity to participate in our Leaders In Training program.
