Introduction - Values Achievement - We know what our targets are and work hard to exceed them. Success - We always try our best and celebrate when we do well. Professionalism - We have high standards of behaviour, attendance and presentation. We take responsibility and reflect upon the choices we make. Integrity - We are trusted to be honest and truthful, to say what we mean and do what we say. Respect - We are kind and good. We treat other people in our community how we wish to be treated. Endeavour - We constantly strive to improve ourselves and make better the lives of others in our community. We refuse to give up. Longdendale strives to nurture the person first whilst looking for every opportunity to stretch the skills, attainments and natural attributes of all students, staff and families. We have expectations of excellence. This means everyone being the very best they can be. The goal is not perfection, but endeavouring to do our best. Using our core values we aspire to work with families to produce young people that are effective communicators, enthusiastic learners, and emerging leaders. We challenge them to be confident team players who learn to take intelligent risks. But above all else we want your child to be positive, cheerful and happy.

Transition What the students said... I thought Year 7 was going to be scary but it's not. The other pupils are really friendly and I've made lots of new friends. The teachers helped me with everything I needed, the transition leaders did too. Finding my way around school was really easy. I was really scared on my first day that I was going to get lost but I didn't. Even if I did get lost I always had a map in my planner to help me out. I think Longdendale is a great school to be in. When I started Year 7 I was really scared because nobody else from my primary came here and I thought I was all alone. I now feel like I ve been here forever. All the teachers and pupils are really nice and I don t know why I was even nervous! I am having loads of fun at Longdendale and I have learnt lots of new things. The teachers are really kind and helpful and there are clubs that will satisfy everyone. Longdendale is a great school! It s big enough, it s organised and everyone is kind. Longdendale is the perfect high school and I am looking forward to 5 more years here and then I can hopefully go on to college and succeed in life. I think I have settled into the school so well because of all the help I ve had. I thought Year 7 would be scary but actually it s fun and I know my way around already. I made new friends easily because all the other pupils are friendly. Longdendale was a big change for me but I have settled in nicely and I love it here! I think the first few weeks at Longdendale have gone really quickly because they have been so much fun. The lessons have been really fun, especially Art, P.E, French and Maths. The food has been really nice, and I have made lots of friends. Longdendale is a very good school. We have lovely teachers and it is a great working environment. Year 8 s and 9 s have really helped us finding our way around.

At Longdendale High School, we strongly believe that every child deserves to be given the opportunity to make outstanding progress, regardless of their background or needs. We believe it is our duty to remove any barriers to learning so every child can succeed. We recognise that some students may need additional support in order to fulfill their potential. This support may be needed for a variety of reasons and provision may be long term or for a short period of time. The Inclusion team at Longdendale uses a wide range of resources and strategies to support students in order that they are able to achieve their full potential. Identification of students with any additional needs Students experiencing difficulties are identified and assessed as early as possible. Identification is usually as a result of one or more of the following: Information from feeder primary schools Screening tests (reading and spelling) on Induction Days Diagnostic testing KS2 National Curriculum test results Observations of Year 7 students at the start of term Parental request Students self-referral Subject teacher request All students who have additional needs are monitored by the Inclusion Team and progress is reviewed regularly.

School Visits After the SAT exams in May the transition staff and student team at Longdendale go out to each and every feeder primary school to meet the pupils and gather information from key primary school teachers. For many children this will be the first time they meet us. It is an exciting time as they begin upon their journey to the next stage of their education at Longdendale. We will endeavour to try and get a feel for every individual so as we can ensure that the induction process is smooth for everyone, taking into account the needs of every individual.

Family Meeting and Induction Days Induction Our induction programme is to inform students and parents of our high expectations so that everyone is challenged and supported to flourish and fulfil their aspirations. The programme has been designed to immerse students in the school ethos of aspiration. This starts with an evening dedicated to families on Monday 29 th June 2014 where you will have chance to find out in detail our expectations of working in partnership with home. This will be followed by a three day induction programme starting on Wednesday 1st July 2015 Wednesday 1 st July The morning session will include a welcome assembly and time with the Year 7 inclusion team where students will be introduced to our core values of Achievement, Success, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect and Endeavour. The afternoon will be spent emulating Rio 2016 in an Olympic Challenge, designed to build teams and have fun! Thursday 2 nd July Day two is dedicated to teaching students more explicitly about our core values and to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings with a tour of the school. They will work together in teams on challenges and end their day with presentations to Student Leaders. Friday 3 rd July The final day is Challenge Friday based on a South American theme where each tutor group will have to work creatively with language, making tribal masks, dancing and drumming, this will conclude with a celebration ceremony to complete their transition to Longdendale High School on Friday 3rd July at 2:00pm, that all families are invited to attend. At the end of the celebration there will be refreshments provided and time for families to meet key members of the senior team, Year 7 team and other Year 6 families.
