Representative December 21, 2015 On behalf of the Children s Wish Foundation, we would like to invite you to support our upcoming Shiver Ball Gala fundraiser as an event sponsor. The dinner will be taking place on Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Grand Ballroom of the Delta Winnipeg Hotel. Since 1983, the Children s Wish Foundation has granted over 22,000 wishes across the country, touching countless lives by giving a child who is facing a life-threatening illness their most heartfelt wish.as the Children s Wish Foundation receives no government funding, we rely heavily on fundraisers such as the gala to generate the money required to make wishes a reality for children living in our community. That goal would be impossible without the generous support of companies and individuals such as you. Last year s dinner was a tremendous success for the Foundation. We welcomed close to 400 guests and raised over $115,000. The money raised at the event allowed us to grant close to 12 wishes to children facing life threatening illnesses. This year, we ll be bringing back some guest favourites from previous years including the scotch bar with an even wider assortment, DeLucas coffee cart and the exciting key draw! As always, the champagne cocktail hour will start the evening and the live auction will be hosted by the entertaining and energetic auctioneer, Murray Lowes. We have already secured some exciting live auction prizes that include once in a lifetime trips and experiences. As we get closer to the event more announcements will be made on our website at. Guests will be entertained by Warner Music Canada duo, Keith & Renee following the formal program. Keith & Renee have performed with artists such as Blue Rodeo, Dallas Smith, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and even for Queen Elizabeth during her last royal visit. They ve picked up several accolades along the way including a place on David Suzuki s prestigious Playlist for the Planet, a Western Canadian Music Award and have had their music featured on a handful of Canadian TV shows. In 2015, we celebrated 30 years of wish granting with our Diamond Anniversary. This year, we celebrate granting over 22,000 wishes since 1983! From humble beginnings in 1983, granting fewer than 20 wishes a year, the Foundation has now established the capacity to fulfill over 1,000 wishes annually across Canada. owes this success to the hundreds of thousands of Canadians and Canadian businesses contributing their time, talents and money over the years to help us make wishes come true. What we do... provides children suffering with illnesses such as cancer, congenital heart defects, cystic fibrosis and many other life-threatening conditions, their most heartfelt wish. Our wishes fall under three categories: travel wishes, celebrity wishes, and item wishes. The most frequent wish we grant is a trip to Disneyworld. Wishes are decided upon by the child, not their parents, and each wish is as unique as the child who makes it. Children may wish to see their favorite NHL team play, or for a big screen TV to watch their favourite films. We have fulfilled wishes for children to meet celebrities, to have a play structure built in their yard, and to travel across the world to visit family members! Wishes provide a temporary escape from the harsh realities these families face everyday. They provide something to look forward to during treatments, and create a positive opportunity to form happy childhood memories and celebrate life. The Bottom Line... receives no government funding. We are dependent upon community based events, individual donors, and business partnerships to achieve our goals. The cost of a wish varies, with the average sitting at $10,000. By understanding the power of a wish, you too can consider how best to share in the dreams of some very special children.
