Preamble 2015 has been a very busy and full year both administratively and competitively for DanceSport Victoria (DSV). DSV has enjoyed a year of considerable development and changes in various areas of DanceSport within Victoria and has been able to manage the majority of these changes successfully, with a positive outcome for its members. DSV has continued to strengthen its relationship with the Victorian Government in the forms of its strategic planning and the successful application for funding of $15,000 per year for three years. A number of these initiatives are already coming to fruition. DSV is also able to boast the state who has embraced the changes implemented by DanceSport Australia, in particular the Registered Teaching Facility (RTF) Program and the Recreational Division implementation, with the highest quantity in both areas: 28 RTFs out of a national 70 - (35.7%) 519 Recreational competitors of a national (37.09%) DanceSport Victoria Annual Report "4

Chairman s Report To the Annual General Meeting - 27 September 2015 This is my first year as Chairman, and what an interesting year it has been! Firstly, I would like to thank all the members of the DSV Board for their contributions to our many activities, especially our first-time members. Andrew again has worked extremely hard as our Executive Officer, and Shane has managed our financial matters in an excellent manner as our Treasurer. We have activated two committees reporting to the Board to deal with specific activities. Meagan Alderton and Anna Longmore are leading the Sports Development committee, and have already made several substantial developments. Adam Blakey is leading the Promotions and Marketing committee, assisted by Anna Edwards, with many of their efforts aligned with the Sports Development activities. Both of these committees have a very busy year ahead! Anthony Pepers is sharing the State Government liaison duties with me, while Don is adding his substantial industry experience to the Board. While not current (but past) Board members, I would personally like to thank our Registration Officer, Norma Johnson, for her continued dedicated service, and also Zalie Merrett for her ongoing management of the very successful Geelong Classic. We have already had several successful events this year: the La Trobe City Classic festival, the Victorian Open Championship and the Geelong Classic. All these events will see changes in the coming year, all aimed at helping DanceSport grow in Victoria. One of our major activities this year has been the development of our Strategic Plan, working closely with the Department of Sport and Recreation. This Plan has been aligned with the State Government s key goals for State Sporting Associations: Victoria More Active (introducing DanceSport to more Victorians), Regional Sport and Recreation (introducing DanceSport to Regional areas) and Sport Governance (improving the capabilities of the Board). We have already received the first instalment of the next round of Government funding and look forward to receiving continued funding which will be applied to our ongoing projects. The coming year will be very busy and challenging, but we are excited about what we can achieve. The La Trobe Classic will be expanding, with the focus being a local schools challenge competition. The Victorian Open will move to the last weekend in February as a promotional event that will hopefully help the whole industry. Finally, the Geelong Classic will be transferring to a private promoter, as was originally planned. The substantial growth in the Recreational Division is a very positive indicator of the success of programs already in place, both National and State, and augurs extremely well for the future of DanceSport. Within three years we will see the Intermediate and Advanced sections in full swing, and within five years we will see these Recreational competitors transitioning into the Registered division. The future is looking very good for DanceSport in Victoria. Very Best Wishes, Martyn Kibel DSV Chairman DanceSport Victoria Annual Report "5

DanceSport Victoria DanceSport Victoria Events Latrobe City DanceSport Classic This is a new promotional event run in regional Victoria (Latrobe Valley) at the Traralgon Sports Stadium Traralgon. This new event is run in partnership with the Latrobe City Council, providing a venue and council funding for the promotion of the event and DanceSport into a new region of Victoria. This was the first DanceSport event of its kind in the area attracting a crown of over 600 people. It was not run as a strict competition, only an evening program with couples invited to participate as part of this promotional exercise. DSV has an agreement with the Latrobe City Council for a further two years of supporting and funding, which will be a great help in promoting DanceSport in this yet untapped area of Victoria. The competition showed a financial profit of approximately $1,600. Victorian Open DanceSport Championships This annual event is another highlight on the dancing calendar in Victoria. Now firmly established at the Kingston City Hall after the move from Hoppers Crossing in This event uses an online entry system and online ticketing system which proved again very successful. The event was successful in attendance with a similar number of competitors to previous years. The competition was also financially viable making a profit of approximately $1, Geelong DanceSport Classic The 2015 Geelong Festival DanceSport Classic was the last time that this event, was run by DanceSport Victoria. Organiser - Mrs Zalie Merrett - has put a tremendous amount of work in over the years and we cannot thank her enough for her energy, enthusiasm and passion for DanceSport will be a new chapter for this event moving to a new independent organiser Mr Geoff Vine. 9 Communication to Members DanceSport Australia Website The DSV website is part of the larger DanceSport Australia website. Weekly reports are sent to each of the state webmasters giving details of traffic, pages viewed and other information regarding the site. The DSV section of the website receives an average of 800 hits per week. This does indicate that whilst the information does not change on a very regular basis, it is a valuable resource for our members. It fluctuates between the number one and number two state sites regarding maximum number of hits per week. DanceSport Victoria - Facebook Page DanceSport Victoria has a Facebook page and is the common tool used to communicate informal messages and reminders to members. The page currently has 1,504 members, an increase from 388 at the same time in 2014, and has been a valuable resource to members to find out details of events and other such important information and reminders. Secondary Facebook Pages: Vic Open DanceSport Championship followers Latrobe City DanceSport Classic followers DanceSport Victoria - Youtube This YouTube account contains a small number of competition and promotional videos for DanceSport. DanceSport Victoria - Twitter In 2012 a Twitter account was created for This account is automatically linked to the Facebook account, so that Facebook updates are automatically posted on to the Twitter account also. The account currently has just over fifty followers at the moment. This is not expected to grow significantly, however it is another avenue for communication between DanceSport Victoria and its members. DanceSport Victoria - Instagram In 2015, DSV created a Instagram account: dancesportvictoria This account is automatically linked to Twitter and to Facebook. DanceSport Victoria - MailChimp (enewsletter) Since the beginning of 2015, DSV has endeavoured to send out a monthly enewsletter to it s members, keeping them informed of what is happening in DanceSport, the sports industry and how DanceSport fits into that. 10 Minister s Community Stakeholder Forum On Wednesday 29th July, 2015 Anna Longmore (DSV Sports Development) and Andrew Howlett (DSV Executive Office) attended the Minister s Community Stakeholder Forum at the MCC Membership Dining Room, on behalf of both the board of DanceSport Victoria and the whole DanceSport community. The forum was hosted by The Minister for Sport - Mr John Eren MP. This forum was a result of several weeks of investigative work by Sport and Recreation Victoria into Sport and Recreation in Victoria and what needs to be done to get more Victorians more active. The following outlines the three main areas that all sports need to be focusing on in order of priority: IMPROVED SPORTS GOVERNANCE As the majority of State Sporting Associations are government funded, the government needs assurance that those charged with the responsibility of managing tax payer money for each respective sport are trained properly in Sports Governance. Sports need to ensure that their administration, policy and financial practices are working toward a best practice delivery system to both membership and the government department reporting. (Sport and Recreation Victoria) IMPROVED COLLABORATION BETWEEN SPORTS SSAs need to work together in developing a more unified best-practice approach, sharing resources on how each sport can learn from each other. This can be in any area of sports administration, legal, policy, financial, member management, etc. INCREASED PARTICIPATION AND PARTICIPATION REPORTING The state Government has increased funding into various aspects of Sport and Recreation in Victoria and need to be able to measure the benefit that this funding has made.this includes: each SSA is actively trying to improve the professionalism of its board Ensuring that each respective sport is accessible to all Victorians. That funding is working toward increasing participation. The State Government is requesting for as much membership participation be recorded to show exactly the increase of participation and the statistics around longevity, how often people are actively involved, do they stay at one level of membership or move through from one level to the next. A very extensive report has been finalised for your review. We encourage you to take the time to read the report, despite its length it is very important. DanceSport Victoria Annual Report "9

DSV Sports Development Report As part of our ongoing development of DanceSport, DSV established a Sport Development Committee specifically to focus on growth and development opportunities of DanceSport here in Victoria. This committee comprises of five individuals who have donated their time towards this very important component of DanceSport. Anna Longmore - Committee Leader Meagen Alderton - Committee Leader David Byrnes Craig Monley Tom Sedawie Completed Projects: Latrobe City DanceSport Classic As part of DSV's commitment to the Victorian Government, we are required to develop and promote DanceSport in new regional areas of Victoria. The Latrobe Valley within Gippsland is one such an area. Thanks to support from the Latrobe City Council, DSV was able to showcase DanceSport via the Latrobe City DanceSport Classic held in Traralgon on Saturday 2nd of May This event was an evening-only show consisting of a Victorian first, Invitational Grand Finals We were very excited that a considerable number of Victoria's best DanceSport competitors agreed to help us promote DanceSport in the Latrobe Valley and we can't thank them enough for their efforts. This event was a huge success with over 550 people attending the event from the local and surrounding community areas. Meagen and Anna made it a priority to include as many local businesses as possible and support the Gippsland area, in an effort to encourage new people to our industry. Thanks to the Latrobe City Council, the event was self-funding and consumed no money from our industry and gave free admission to the competitors. In return for their support, they received free entry to the Vic Open Competition. As part of the promotion of the event, a specific website and Facebook page were established which received far greater exposure than expected. To date the Facebook page has 648 likes and still increasing. Through Facebook advertising we were able to achieve a significant impact with nearly 20,000 impressions being reported during the promotion of the event. The event website ( has received over 5,320 views. We are already busy planning for the 2016 Latrobe City DanceSport Classic with continued support from the Victorian Government. We are currently working with the local schools to bring a Dance Program to area and include a Schools DanceSport Challenge in the afternoon before another exciting Invitational Evening event.there are a number of existing Dance schools in the area, with only a small amount of DanceSport exposure. By providing this DanceSport Victoria Annual Report "10

promotion and working with these local schools, we are hoping that this will create a market place for DanceSport in these existing schools with the potential to develop new DanceSport opportunities. Upcoming Projects: DanceSport is part of the "Ultimate Sports Expo The Ultimate Sport Expo (USE) is the largest multi-sport expo in the southern hemisphere. Set within a 50,000sqm venue in Melbourne, the sporting capital of Australia, this will be a one-stop shop for all things sport! DSV is very proud to announce that we will be a stall holder at this massive event. This is first time ever that DanceSport has been included in the USE. DanceSport Victoria is very excited to be promoting our sport along side a myriad of other sports to really showcase that our sport is athletic and artistic. When: November 2015 Where: Melbourne Showgrounds Epsom Rd, Ascot Vale Melbourne Victoria Australia Promotional Month February 2016 DSV is currently developing promotional literature and a greater online presence to promote DanceSport and the benefits of DanceSport to the general public. We will be working with and directing traffic to RTFs in Victoria in an attempt to better educate the general public as to why they should get involved in DanceSport and where to go to start. Moomba Parade Moomba Festival returns to Alexandra Gardens and Birrarung Marr from 11 to 14 March The Moomba Festival Parade will be held on the Labour Day public holiday, Monday 14 March A celebrated part of the Melbourne events calendar for 60 years, Moomba will be back with an exciting program of events and family entertainment, making Melbourne the ideal place to be for the Labour Day long weekend. Held over four days, the festival attracts more than one million visitors to the sun-soaked banks of the Yarra to share in the vibrancy and spirit of our much loved city. DanceSport Victoria is currently in negotiations with the organisers so that we may be a part of Moomba and have an opportunity to promote DanceSport. DanceSport Victoria Annual Report "11
