2 Patient-Centered Care: Meeting the Requirements for New or Existing Cancer Programs The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, the UNC Comprehensive Cancer Support Program and the UNC Cancer Network recognize that addressing the needs of cancer patients has garnered significant national attention since the recent publication from the 2013 Institutes of Medicine s Delivering High-Quality Cancer Care: Charting a New Course for a System in Crisis publication and the American College of Surgeon s (ACoS) Commission on Cancer s (CoC) Cancer Program Standards 2012: Ensuring Patient- Centered Care. These organizations are designed to help cancer programs improve their quality of care by focusing on patient-centered care initiatives. This 1 and ½ day symposium will provide the perspectives of professionals across the region, who are working to help programs meet these standards. Presenters will share practical tips and strategies as well as pitfalls they have experienced during the development and implementation of their programs. They will also broadly discuss emerging treatment strategies for working with cancer survivors and caregivers to facilitate optimal psychosocial care. This symposium is relevant for a broad audience of cancer center administrators, physicianleaders, nurses, social workers and psychosocial-oncology professionals.
