2 PERINATAL UPDATE 2014 Conference Description In the highly specialized and ever evolving fields of neonatology and perinatology, it is essential for the healthcare professional to maintain knowledge of current trends and practices consistent with the prevailing standards of perinatal care. The faculty, active in research and obstetrical and neonatal care, will present perspectives on the most current technological advances in perinatal care. The combination of the topics to be discussed, along with the widely reputable and professional faculty, will provide you with an excellent educational opportunity. Conference Objectives Identify circumstances when a patient should be offered a cerclage. Identify alternatives for patients who decline cerclage. Describe the planning and preparation of the neonatal resuscitation team to receive multiple babies simultaneously. Describe best practices for transitioning multiple babies into the NICU environment after initial stabilization. Identify at least 2 disease processes impacted by the use of human milk in the NICU. Describe common barriers to a successful neonatal lactation support program. Identify neurologic physiology and dermatome assessment techniques. List one risk and benefit of each anesthetic option utilized during labor. Discuss advances in digital technology. Discuss clinical robot technology in the hospital and in the transport of neonates. Discuss the current use & advantages of using robotic surgery in pregnancy. Identify common complications of transition in the VLBW that may be averted with a Golden Hour protocol. List key characteristics of FHR evolution corresponding to acid-base imbalances. Explain the clinical application of the FET score. Discuss lethal fetal anomalies. Discuss methods for preterm delivery for fetuses with lethal anomalies. Discuss current recommendations for the treatment of cancer in pregnancy. Identify at least 3 symptoms & treatment modalities of post-partum depression. Review the definitions of preterm, late preterm, early term, full term and post term. Review indications for deliveries prior to 39 weeks. Define fetal cell transmission. List 2 current diagnostic clinical applications of fetal cell trafficking. Differentiate between malformation, deformation, and disruptions and discuss their origins. Identify at least 2 positive and 2 negative impacts of social media use by nurses. Describe how story telling can help restore and maintain pride within the nursing profession Hotel Accommodations The Savannah Marriott Riverfront is the headquarters hotel for the conference. Located at 100 General McIntosh Boulevard on the vibrant Savannah riverfront, the Marriott is ideally situated in the historic district. Self-parking is complimentary for all conference attendees. Additional fees apply to valet parking. The Perinatal Update has reserved a limited number of rooms exclusively for conference participants and their guests at special reduced rates. Room rates for the nights of March 12 and 13 will be $149 single or double (state, local & hotel taxes are additional). Extra persons over two per room are $20 each/night. To confirm availability and special room rates for this conference, reservations must be made prior to February 12, After that date, rooms that are not reserved will be released back to the general public and rooms will then be on a space-available basis at the regular rack rate. Reservations not guaranteed by advance deposit by this date will also be released to the general public. 3 About Savannah The site for the Perinatal Update is Savannah, the hostess city of the South. Bits and pieces of Savannah s rich, colorful history are found on practically every corner of the city s downtown section - a picturesque area which has been designated as one of the nation s largest historic districts. The origin of this warm, hospitable city can be traced to February 12, 1773 when James E. Oglethorpe of England sailed up the Savannah River and founded what would become America s first planned city and the last of the 13 original colonies. Registration Information Registration is limited; therefore, early registration is advised. A confirmation letter will be sent by mail if your completed registration form and payment are received at least two weeks prior to the conference. If you have not received a confirmation letter by then, please call (912) to confirm registration. Do not assume you are registered unless you have a confirmation letter or have spoken to a conference planner. Method of Payment We accept MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Discover, cash, check or money order. Checks should be made payable to Memorial Health Foundation. A $25 fee will be assessed on any returned checks. All mailed registrations must be postmarked by 2/26/14. On-line credit card registration is available until 11:59 pm 3/7/14 on our website at Registration may close earlier if conference capacity is reached. After 3/6/14, please call to check availability of conference space. NO PHONE OR FAX REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Conference Syllabus Our conference materials will be available on-line ONLY. No printed or electronic version of the syllabus will be provided at check-in. Conference materials will be available for you to download no later than 3/7/14 at our website and will remain on the website for 60 days post conference. Submission of handouts are optional for speakers, therefore, handouts for all sessions may not be available. Exhibits Numerous companies, organizations and hospitals will be displaying the latest in technological products, advances and services available to health professionals caring for perinatal patients. Exhibits will be open beginning Wednesday, March 12, during the opening reception; Thursday, March 13, from 7:00 am 2:20 pm; and Friday, March 14, from 7:00 10:30 am. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Memorial University Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
