1 CHESTERFIELD ROYAL HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Sister / Charge Nurse Clinical Skills This post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999 and the Care Standards Act Successful candidates will be subject to a check by the Disclosure & Barring Service and any other such checks required by legislation, and applicants will be required to consent to the disclosure of information under any such legislation. BASE: SALARY: REPORTS TO: ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 25,783-34,530 per annum (Band 6) Matron, Clinical Skills Senior Matron - Practice Development 1. JOB SUMMARY: 1.1 To provide ongoing support to the Trust to ensure that the resuscitation training needs of all staff are met, in line with NHSLA Risk Management Standards. 1.2 To develop, implement, supervise and provide specialist advice in the training of all staff in basic, intermediate and advanced life support as appropriate. 1.3 To develop, facilitate and implement a multi-professional strategy for clinical skills training. 1.4 To facilitate and deliver recognised Clinical Skills and Simulation based courses, for all disciplines within the Trust. 1.5 To provide competent advice on issues linked to Clinical Skills and resuscitation. 1.6 To support the Matron Clinical Skills in the development, delivery and evaluation of all clinical skills programmes to meet service priorities and quality standards. 2. KEY RESULT AREAS: 2.1 Training and Education To assist the Matron Clinical Skills in the design and planning of a wide range of clinical skills and simulation based education and training programmes To deliver a wide-range of clinical skills education and training programmes using educational and motivational theories to promote positive outcomes.

2 2.1.4 To work in partnership with other members of the Education Team to support delivery of the other education programmes To assist in the development, review and implementation of clinical guidelines, protocols, policy and educational programmes, in partnership with the Matrons, Patient Safety Team, and Resuscitation Committees To support and facilitate staff evaluation follows completion of resuscitation/clinical skills training To support the Matron Clinical Skills in the development, delivery and evaluation of clinical skills education programmes Actively participate in planning and delivery of Trust essential training programmes (ie Rolling Programme and Induction) To support the Matron Clinical Skills in the planning and delivery of accredited resuscitation programmes including ILS, PLS and ALS To support the Matron Clinical Skills to ensure the quality of education delivery by monitoring attendance at training events and evaluating outcomes To support the Matron Clinical Skills in implementing educational quality standards required for external validation eg NHSLA Risk Management Standards To undertake evaluation and training needs analysis to quantify outcomes of training and future training requirements. 2.3 Clinical Practice Role model specialist knowledge in relation to resuscitation and clinical skills and provide best patient care Maintain up-to-date clinical skills through participation in clinical practice Respond to Cardiac Arrest events, participating in resuscitation and taking the lead role where appropriate Provide specialist clinical advice in relation to resuscitation and clinical skills Develop own clinical skills as new innovations are developed in order to teach skills to other clinical staff. 2.4 General Duties Deputise for the Matron Clinical Skills as delegated Support the Matron Clinical Skills in the cost effective use of the department resources To be an active member of the Trust s Resuscitation Committee, providing professional advice and support. 2.5 Personal Development To participate in the evaluation of own effectiveness through the appraisal process, identifying and acting upon development needs.

3 2.5.2 To take responsibility for maintaining professional registration, ensuring own professional development in support of the post Be familiar with and comply with all relevant operational, personnel, health and safety policies and procedures. 3. Service Delivery 3.1 Assist in the development and review of guidelines, policies and programmes relating to education and workforce development. 3.2 To be familiar and comply with all relevant operational, personnel, health and safety policies and procedures. 3.3 Keep abreast of all related local and national policy relating to health education and translate recommendations into own practice. 4. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. 2. To actively participate in the staff appraisal process. 3. To be familiar with relevant Operational, Personnel, Health and Safety Policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol. 4. It is the responsibility of every employee to actively help the Trust prevent and control infection by washing their hands effectively, carrying out their duties in a way which minimises infection, attending appropriate training and maintaining up to date knowledge and skills in infection control and prevention as relevant to their post.
