1 CHESTERFIELD ROYAL HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST JOB DESCRIPTION POST: LEAD LEARNING DISABILITY NURSE / CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST LEARNING DISABILITY CAMHS TEAM This post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999 and the Care Standards Act Successful candidates will be subject to a check by the Criminal Records Bureau and any other such checks required by legislation, and applicants will be required to consent to the disclosure of information under any such legislation. BASE: The Den, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Calow SALARY: Band 7 REPORTS TO: ACCOUNTABLE TO: Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Team Lead for Learning Disability, CAMHS Service Manager, CAMHS JOB PURPOSE: The post holder will play a vital role in the development of the newly set up LD- CAMHS service in conjunction with the Team Lead. As well as contributing to mental health assessments and interventions for children and young people with learning disabilities and their families the post holder will manage and supervise the other nurses in the team. Working across North Derbyshire they will be an active, autonomous member of the LD CAMHS. KEY RESULT AREAS: 1. Contribute to the LD-CAMHS service across North Derbyshire. 2. Manage, supervise and lead the nurses and support workers within the LD- CAMHS service. 3. Act as a senior member of the LD-CAMHS service, contributing to relevant service developments, policies and procedures. 4. Plan, implement and manage a range of mental health interventions for young people with moderate and severe learning disabilities and their families. 5. Contribute to the training of a range of professionals.

2 6. Provide advice and consultation to other professionals involved in the care of children and young people with learning disabilities. 7. Actively seek, negotiate and encourage multi-agency relationships through joint working and project work. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Be an advanced, skilled and autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary team, providing mental health services to children and young people with moderate and severe learning disabilities and their families/carers across North Derbyshire. 2. Provide complex mental health assessments and interventions drawing upon evidence based practise, specialist training and knowledge, and utilising NICE guidelines. 3. Ensure high levels of skilled practise by participating in regular clinical and managerial supervision. 4. Facilitate and maintain accurate communication and liaison with colleagues, referrers to the service, primary care and external agencies. 5. Attend and contribute to statutory child protection conferences and risk strategy meetings/providing specialist knowledge of developmental, emotional, behavioural and mental health perspectives. 6. Communicate with young people, children and their families in a way that empowers them towards informed decision-making. 7. Observe confidentiality as appropriate in all matters relating to clients affairs and treatment. 8. Be involved in personal and professional development, and keep abreast of clinical developments within the specialty. 9. Maintain registration with the NMC and adhere to the code of professional conduct as set out by them. 10. Promote and develop specialist nursing policies/procedures within the LD- CAMHS service as appropriate. 11. Keep accurate up to date records in accordance with relevant policies and procedures for the Trust. 12. Liaise with relevant services/agencies for: transition from child to adult learning disability services; and where out or area services/placements are being considered. RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Contribute to the clinical delivery and service development of LD-CAMHS in North Derbyshire as described above. 2. Report to the Team Leader for LD-CAMHS and contribute to the development of this service in conjunction with the team lead.

3 3. Be directly available for supervision and/or consultation with colleagues in CAMHS and other relevant services. 4. Uphold functional relationships with referrers to the service. 5. Be directly available for discussion with any potential referrer to the service via telephone or consultation. 6. Uphold high professional standards in accordance with the codes of professional conduct. 7. Accept and maintain meaningful supervision and consultations with other professionals. 8. Act autonomously and independently in day-to-day clinical practise. RESEARCH: 1. Undertake and promote evidence based practises. 2. Participate in relevant service evaluations and audit programmes. 3. Be involved in multi-disciplinary clinical governance. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 1. Maintain and incorporate knowledge of current developments in specialist nursing, therapeutic and medical practise and disseminate this throughout the service. 2. Maintain and update knowledge of current legislation as it applies to people with learning disabilities/young people and their families. 3. Contribute to the co-ordinated specialist learning environment for a range of student and trainee professionals that meets the needs of both the individual and the organisation. 4. Provide teaching/training related to specialist child and adolescent mental health to other professional groups. MANAGEMENT/LEADERSHIP: 1. Manage, supervise and lead the nurses in the LD-CAMHS service. 2. Serve as resource/advisor and work in parties/planning groups in relation to the learning disability child and adolescent speciality. 3. Act as a senior member of the LD-CAMHS Team, working closely with the Team Leader on service priorities and developments. 4. Maintain accurate records on service activity, providing statistical returns as required.

4 5. Be actively involved in the recruitment, selection and retention of multiprofessional staff to the specialist service as appropriate. 6. Represent LD-CAMHS on key groups and organisations, contributing to strategic links and developments. 7. Attend relevant local and regional forums relevant to Learning Disability services. QUALITY: 1. Promote and monitor standards of excellence to improve the quality of care and standards of professional competence within the speciality. 2. Ensure access to appropriate quality and quantity of supervision of clinical work. 3. Maintain a healthy and safe environment for service users, visitors and colleagues. 4. Ensure the provision and monitoring of accessible and equitable service delivery across the client range. 5. Represent the Trust in a professional and responsible manner at all times. GENERAL RESPONSBILITIES: 1. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. 2. Actively participate in the Staff Appraisal system and Clinical Supervision process. 3. Maintain continuing professional development. 4. Ensure relevant child and adult procedures are followed. 5. Attend and contribute to statutory child protection conferences to provide specialist knowledge of developmental and mental health perspectives. 6. Promote and develop specialist nursing policies, and give professional advice and guidance to colleagues in accordance with NMC guidance documents. POST TITLE: LEAD LEARNING DISABILITY NURSE - LEARNING DISABILITY CAMHS TEAM CATEGORY ESSENTIAL IDENTIFICATION DESIRABLE IDENTIFICATION Qualifications & Training 1 ST level Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities (or equivalent) Evidence of further training (e.g. teaching qualification, a therapeutic model or leadership/ management Working Experience Substantial experience of post registration working within Learning Disability Mental Health or LD- CAMHS services. Experience of psychological and pharmacological interventions used with people with learning disabilities or children and young people. Experience with clients and their families. Experience of leading, managing and/or supervising others. Presentation training) Experience of working on service development and strategic issues.
