AND Degree level Specialist Practice qualification in Emergency Care/Nurse Practitioner or currently undertaking. OR Certified course of study in Minor Injury Management/Autonomous Nursing Practice. AND Minimum of 5years or above post registration experience working in A&E or a minor injuries unit. Certificate in ALS, ATNC or TNCC. A full current driving license and access to a car. Course in Supplementary Nurse Prescribing

3 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE Emergency Nurse Practitioner BAND Band 7 REPORTS TO Department Manager RESPONSIBLE TO Service Manager for Unscheduled Care LOCATION Emergency Department, South West Acute Hospital/ Urgent Care Treatment Centre, Tyrone County Hospital Essential Qualifications and Experience Required Registered nurse on Adult Branch of the NMC Register He/She will be required to have at least 5 years A&E experience or Minor Injuries Unit or Treatment/Practice Nurse experience Have completed or currently undertaking a Degree level Specialist practice qualifications in Emergency Care or Nurse Practitioner An interest in working autonomously in A&E in caring for patients with less acuity illnesses and injuries Certificate in ALS, ATNC or TNCC Desirable Qualifications A course in the management of patients with minor injuries and illnesses Evidence of autonomous working in an emergency care environment. Job Summary The Emergency Nurse Practitioner is a practitioner who works autonomously within given guidelines to deliver care to a specific group of patients attending the A&E department or local treatment Minor Injuries Unit without reference to a Doctor. The successful candidate will provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership in the department in developing a local nurse delivered local treatment unit.

4 He/She will be part of a team of nursing, medical and allied professionals leading in the delivery of a high quality service to patients presenting with lower acuity illness and injury. Key Working Relationships Hospital medical/nursing/ahp staff Primary care staff Community nursing/ahp staff Clinical Responsibilities The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously and deliver a complete package of care to patients who fall within the parameters agreed by the Trust in conjunction with the team members mentioned above. Will develop and consistently maintain a philosophy for the local treatment service. Will work closely with the Consultant Nurse and Department Manager in developing the role of the Emergency Nurse practitioner. Will develop, implement and monitor guidelines, standards, policies, protocols/care pathways. Will develop excellent working relationships with all members of the Emergency Care team and community care services including treatment room staff. Will continue to develop expertise in the area of practice and promote WHSCT as a centre of excellence in nursing practice. Will provide clinical support and advice to all members of the Emergency Care team. The Emergency Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessing, examining, carrying out investigations and interpreting signs and symptoms, treat and discharge or refer patients within their level of competence and confidence as agreed by the Trust. The Emergency Nurse Practitioner will exercise his/her level of judgement in the management and further care of patients within his/her scope of practice. The Emergency Nurse Practitioner will work for a defined period of time per month (will be agreed on appointment) in the main A&E department area to maintain his/her skills in all areas of emergency nursing care. Maintain a high profile in the clinical area act as a role model for other health care professionals. Professional and Personal Responsibilties Ensure that he/she remains up-to-date in professional developments and proactively seeks to develop his/her knowledge and skills as required by the NMC.

5 Share responsibility with the Department Manager, Nurse Consultant and A&E Consultants for developing the role and service as patient s needs dictate. Proactively evaluate his/her practice and the service provided to patients using tools such as clinical audit and patient and staff feedback. Participate and facilitate the provision of clinical supervision amongst colleagues and peers. Education and Training Promote a positive learning environment within the unit for patients, clinical staff and learners Plan programmes of education and training for all staff and contribute to the development of practice at all levels Establish and maintain links with other ENPs in other organisations with a purpose of mutual support and professional development Maintain competence and confidence in treating patients with minor injuries and illnesses, this will include participating in case study and peer review, clinical audit and risk assessment Accept responsibility for his/her own professional development and partake in an annual staff appraisal.
