1 Meetings and Events Management Program WHAT IS MEETINGS & EVENTS AUSTRALIA? Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) is a national, independent not for profit Association and Registered Training Organisation dedicated to fostering professionalism and excellence in all aspects of meetings and events management. It also promotes the value and effectiveness of meetings as an important high-yield sector of business travel and tourism. MEA offers Professional Training and Education Programs, Professional Development programs, accreditation, recognition, disseminates information, provides a forum for its members to discuss current issues, and represents the industry to government PROGRAM PURPOSE Essentially, people who complete the MEA Meetings and Events Management Program will be awarded the nationally recognised qualification SIT50207 Diploma of Events. Based on industry consultation the program is designed to recognise and reward industry professionals practising at either coordination and management level. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? You are currently working in one of the following segments: Conventions, Visitors & Tourist organisation; Event and Technical Production; Meetings and Events Management; Meetings Industry Suppliers and Services; Venues. Positioned as an Event Administrator/ Coordinator you are ready for progression into an events management role within the Organisation. The program is delivered to individuals who have identified gaps in their own performance or seek opportunities for recognition at a management level. This decision may have resulted in the desire for an internal promotion, or to seek a new career opportunity, or to gain recognition for organisational compliance. PROGRAM OUTCOMES The qualification SIT50207 Diploma of Events reflects the role of individuals who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate the work of self or team skills. They are also responsible for group outcomes. As such the qualification reflects the skills of an Event Manager working in a Venues and Events context. LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT PERSONNEL Qualified Trainers/Assessors, Industry Practitioners and Professional Speakers/ Presenters who are involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of the program are suitably qualified according to national standards and recognised as industry leaders in their field. MEA presents a strong network of industry and learning and development professionals who can motivate, lead and inspire you through the program. The SIT50207 Diploma of Events is recognised within the Australia Qualifications Framework and issued under the authority of the NSW Vocational Education and Training Act PROGRAM DETAILS WHERE NSW Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle COST $ enrolment fee $ delivery and assessment fee* (* funded by Dept of Education and Communities) DURATION 12 months of delivery and assessment PROGRAM STRUCTURE 14 Core units, 10 Elective units Quality Meetings and Customer Service Events Industry and Sustainability Events Management Events Budgets and Projects Events Human Resources PROGRAM AWARD SIT50207 Diploma of Events KEY PROGRAM DATES CLIENT INFORMATION/REGISTRATION Wednesday 1 June 2011 APPLICATION CLOSING DATES Wednesday 1 June 2011 RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Wednesday 8 22 June 2011 PROGRAM INDUCTION Wednesday 29 June 2011 DELIVERY COMMENCEMENT DATE Tuesday 5 July 2pm 6pm PROGRAM COMPLETION DATE Tuesday 10 July 2012 WHERE TO GO FROM HERE? 2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Successful completion in an events-based area. Certificate III qualifications which are particularly relevant include those in the areas of: Business, entertainment, hospitality, museums and libraries, music, sport and recreation, tourism, or paid or voluntary employment experience at an operational, coordination or management level in an eventsrelated field. A current or previous job role that involves or has involved the application of skills and knowledge relevant to the staging and management of functions and events would be appropriate. As a minimum, your employment experience must reflect the breadth, depth and complexity of a qualification at Certificate III level, as defined in the Australian Qualifications Framework guidelines. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) This is an assessment process that assesses an individual s formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of a qualification. If you can verify that you have achieved some of the goals of the course already, you will not have to do that part of the course. This means you may finish the course earlier and it will reduce your workload. FLEXIBILITY One of the more attractive features of the program is its flexibility. You are presented with a program that is supported with an infrastructure of smaller components of professional development. One level is the full qualification SIT50207 Diploma of Events, the next level is Competency Clusters and the third level are short non-accredited Professional Development offerings. This type of design allows for multiple exit and entry points in-and-out of the program. For example, you believe that you only need to attend Competency Cluster 1 and 4. Therefore, via a process of RPL you can achieve national recognition for part of the qualification and attend the other sessions in order to complete the full qualification and receive the SIT50207 Diploma of Events. INDUSTRY VALIDATION MEA is committed to continuous improvement in its assessment practices, tools and outcomes. Included in the program management of each qualification is a process of quality review and control. This is achieved by facilitating focus groups of like-minded professionals from both the meetings and events industry and the Vocational Education and Training sector at least twice annually and conducting validation sessions. The type of approach used is Assessment Partnerships, Consensus Meetings and External (validators or panels). The SIT50207 Diploma of Events is recognised within the Australia Qualifications Framework and issued under the authority of the NSW Vocational Education and Training Act PRE PROGRAM PREPARATION CLIENT INFORMATION SESSION Before you enrol or enter into an agreement MEA must inform you about the training, assessment and support services provided, and about the roles and responsibilities of both parties. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) During Pre Program Preparation you will have the opportunity to present evidence recognition of all applicable skills and knowledge relevant to the outcomes of the SIT50207 Diploma of Events. PROGRAM INDUCTION At this stage you have enrolled into the program and applied RPL. This session will provide you with all of the resources and materials, obligations and opportunities required to commence and progress through the program. DELIVERY DETAILS CLASSROOM-BASED 2 x 4hr sessions per month 1 x 6hr weekend session per month EMPLOYMENT-BASED RTO / Enterprise 80 hrs per month ELECTRONIC-BASED 1 x 1hr webinar session per month ASSESSMENT DETAILS Candidate Portfolio Assessments Candidate Interview Assessments Candidate Observation Assessments SUPPORT All learners and candidates are provided with suitable and ongoing support by MEA and relevant MEA Industry Practitioners. The primary goal of the Industry Practitioner is to mentor you through your learning and development journey and to ensure that you have the opportunity to achieve your goals.
3 PRE-PROGRAM PREPARATION Month 1 Week 1 Client Information Session Week 2 and 3 Recognition of Prior Learning Week 4 Program Induction A key feature of this SIT50207 Diploma of Events is its method of assessment. By using a technique of grouping competencies often referred to as clustering, your assessment can cover more than one unit of competency at a time. This means that one assessment task representing a standard employment-based / simulated work function can cover multiple units of competency. The process of gathering evidence can apply to part of a unit, a whole unit, and a cluster of units or an entire qualification.
