2 Page 2/5 COURSE DESCRIPTION CERTIFICATE IV IN BUSINESS COURSE NAME: Certificate IV in Business NATIONAL CODE: BSB40212 CRICOS CODE: J DURATION: 26 weeks including 6 weeks break GENERAL DESCRIPTION This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use well developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of business situations and contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others. This course is comprised of 10 units, 1 core unit and 9 elective units. ACCREDITATION This is a nationally recognised course and part of BSB07 Business Services Training Package endorsed by the Quality Skills Council of Australia. Participants who successfully complete all the assessments will be awarded with Certificate IV in Business. TARGET GROUP The main target group for this qualification is potential new entrants to the industry who require skills in the business sector. This group may include local students, international students, school leavers, unemployed workers, recent migrants and those wishing to enter a different industry sector and require skills in business relevant areas. It is expected that they will generally be from 18 to 50 years of age. ENTRY REQUIREMENT ACADEMIC Applicants must have: Satisfactory completed Year 12 of secondary education or its equivalent Some experience in a commercial or retail environment ENTRY REQUIREMENT GENERAL Language For overseas students whose first language is not English: An overall IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent OR Pass Abbey College entry test designed to assess the level of English proficiency. Suitability Learners will need to have basic computer skills and access to the internet. All applicants must be 18 years old or above to apply for this course. LEARNING PATHWAYS Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include: Graduates of the BSB30112 Certificate III in Business or of the equivalent qualification or

3 Page 3/5 Some vocational experience assisting in a range of environments providing administrative or operational support to individuals and/or teams but without a formal business qualification. Examples of indicative job roles for candidates seeking entry based upon their vocational experience include: Accounts Clerk, Customer Service Advisor, Clerk, E-business Practitioner, Legal receptionist, Medical Receptionist, Office Administration Assistant, Student Services Officer, and Word Processing Operator. This breadth of expertise would equate to the competencies require to undertake this qualification. EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES Students successfully finishing the Certificate IV course may gain employment in business or commerce. Examples of indicative job roles include: Administrator Project Officer PATHWAYS FROM THE QUALIFICATION AND ARTICULATION After achieving the BSB40212 Certificate IV in Business, candidates may undertake a range of Diploma level qualifications within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package, or other Training Packages. DELIVERY LOCATION Face to face training including all lectures, tutorials, and workshops are held at Abbey College Australia at L2, 770 George Street, Sydney NSW. FACILITIES Five large classrooms with both lecture and discussion configurations and audio-visual presentation equipment. Computer laboratory with 20 networked computers with internet and printer access. Internet accessed and other computer-based training tutorials. Wi-Fi and library

4 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Page 4/5 To receive this qualification, learners must demonstrate competency in 1 core competency covered by the training program and 9 elective competencies listed below. In addition, students are expected to engage in a minimum of hours self-study each week. Self study activities includes research on internet about topics learned, revision of learning materials, assessments and class exercises. RPL (RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING) Learners can obtain advanced standing in the training program on the basis of current competency. They need to provide evidence that they already have achieved the targeted competencies by, for example: Submitting their competency record book for inspection; or Providing evidence of completion of related training programs or courses and mapping them to the target competencies; or Demonstrating them in a workplace or simulated workplace environment. Please note: Payment of RPL assessment fee will be required. RPL application should be submitted with enrolment form prior to enrolment. Overseas students: Subject to RPL assessment outcomes, Abbey College Australia will inform visa granting authorities if granting RPL to an international student will result in the shortening of the actual duration of their course.

5 TEACHING METHODS Page 5/5 This course will be delivered using a combination of lecture, handouts, tutorials and practical exercises. Participants will receive a workbook for each unit of competency. Students are required to complete some of the activities in their own time. DELIVERY MODE This program is delivered in an institutional setting. Facilitator led theory sessions and practical sessions which may involving combination of practical activities, group and individual projects, group discussion, presentation, institution based learning and assessment program, and case study. Students are expected to undertake reading and research activities in conjunction with the delivery of face-to-face theory and practical sessions. Practical sessions will be held in a simulated office environment. Students are provided with unit of competence workbook, handouts, and reference materials and notes. ASSESSMENT METHODS Assessment is both formative and summative. Evidence will be gathered based on a combination of classroom activities and the activities in their own time.
