3 Course Overview BSB20112 Certificate II in Business INTRODUCTION Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO number 40651) registered with the Australian Skills Quality Authority. The Certificate II in Business can lead to better career opportunities for those seeking employment opportunities as an administrative officer, clerical officer, receptionist, administration assistant or office administrator. Course Description PRE-REQUISITES: There are no pre-requisites for this course. This means you do not need to hold a Certificate II prior to enrolling. Students are required to have a basic proficiency in language, literacy and numeracy (LLN level 2). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Computer skills: As part of this course you are required undertake varied computer related tasks, familiarity with some computer applications will be useful however you will learn most of the common office based applications as part of the training. JOB ROLES customer service adviser data entry operator general clerk payroll officer typist word processing operator DURATION AND WORKSHOP TIMES Classes are held 3 times a week. Participants have the option of attending a 2 day a week class which are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays or the one day a week option which is held on the Wednesdays. Class times are 9.30am to 2.30pm. FLEXIBLE DELIVERY This program is delivered through a flexible delivery mode where participants can pick up where they left off at any time and can commence at any during the year. PATHWAYS INFORMATION After achieving BSB20112 Certificate II in Business, candidates may undertake the BSB30112 Certificate III in Business. Page 3 of 9

4 COURSE FEATURES: Recognition of prior learning available for participants currently in office or administration. Candidates seeking RPL must provide evidence of current employment and evidence to support competence. BEST Training will provide learning materials in this qualification which may be in the form of lesson notes, a study guide, electronic learning resources and support material (all given to you by or on your USB). Class resources are used during class hours. There is an option to complete this qualification early for those who wish to speed up their learning process. 5 COURSE OUTLINE: The BSB20112 Certificate II in Business comprises of 1 Core units and 11 elective units of competence. Based on our consultation with industry, we have selected the following units of competence: Module BSBWHS201A Unit of Competency Contribute to health and safety of self and others Core or elective Core Description This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work in a manner that is healthy and safe in relation to self and others and to respond to emergency incidents. It covers following work health and safety (WHS) and emergency procedures and instructions, implementing WHS requirements and participating in WHS consultative processes. It applies to individuals who require a basic knowledge of WHS to carry out work in a defined context under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility, in a range of industry and workplace contexts. BSBCUS201 Deliver a service to customers This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to deliver all aspects of customer service at an introductory level. It includes creating a relationship with customers, identifying their needs, delivering services or products and processing customer feedback. BSBWOR204 Use business technology This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to select and use computer software and organise electronic information and data. BSBITU201 BSBITU202 Produce simple word processed documents Create and use spreadsheets This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop basic keyboard skills using touch typing techniques in a broad range of settings. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to correctly create and use spreadsheets and charts using spreadsheet software. BSBITU203 Communicate electronically This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to send, receive and manage electronic mail ( ), as well as collaborate online using chat rooms, intranets and instant messaging. BSBWOR203 Work effectively with others This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work cooperatively with others and deal effectively with issues, problems and conflict. It also includes the maintenance of filing and records systems. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design and produce electronic presentations for speakers, for self access and online access. 6 NATIONAL RECOGNITION: These competencies have been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package the BSB - Training and Education. On successfully completing the training and assessment, the qualification BSB20112 Certificate II in Business will be issued. A transcript list all of the units of competence will also be issued. The qualification and units of competence are nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia. ASSESSMENT PATHWAYS Assessment in vocational education and training (VET) can be undertaken via three different pathways: 1. In a learning and assessment pathway candidates for assessment attend learning sessions, participate in all activities and complete the assessments to a schedule usually arranged around the learning sessions. In this pathway candidates are usually guided by facilitators and have access to all resources, both in hardcopy and online. The advantage of this pathway is the development of skills, sharing resources and networking with other people working in the VET sector. 2. In an assessment only pathway the assessment candidate does not attend learning sessions but completes the assessments and submits them to the assessor at predetermined times. 3. In skills recognition pathway the assessment candidate does not usually attend learning sessions or complete assessments. Skills recognition is another form of assessment only pathway. However, it is through a different type of assessment called recognition of prior learning or RPL. PROGRAM OUTLINE: The course will be delivered in the classroom using a combination of one-on-one and group theory instruction and roles plays including practical assessment. Training sessions are trainer led. The candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to implement WHS policies and procedures such as for carrying out inspections, hazard reporting, and incident reporting. The candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to participate in WHS consultation. The candidate will demonstrate skills and knowledge required to establish contact with customers, identify customer needs, and deliver service to customers. The candidate must demonstrate skills and knowledge required to manage customer complaints within organisational policies and procedures. The candidate is required to demonstrate knowledge of customer service legislation. Learners are to investigate a workplace s technology and software usage and data storage procedures. Learners are to keep a log of their own technology and software usage and maintenance in the workplace. The learner is to respond to a range of scenarios that detail issues with technology, software and data storage in the workplace. Learners are to demonstrate that they are able to correctly identify ways to adjust workspace, furniture and equipment to suit user ergonomic requirements and use technology in a way which promotes a safe work environment. Learners are to demonstrate that they can identify, open, amend, save, store, and close a document, according to the task requirements. The assessor will complete an observation checklist. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to prepare for the production of documents using word processing software. This includes using safe work practices, identifying and clarifying document, organisational and tasks requirements and recognising options to deal with routine problems associated with the use of the software. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to produce and finalise internal documents using Microsoft Word. They will be required to prepare and format two documents to meet the criteria provided in the specified scenario and style guide. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to select and prepare the resources to create and use spreadsheets, using the appropriate computer software. This includes using safe work practices, identifying and clarifying spreadsheet, organisational and task requirements, and recognising options to deal with routine problems associated with the use of the software. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to create and finalise simple spreadsheets. You must be able to record, forward and store minutes from a meeting into a standard format. Candidates must be able to sort, classify, store and maintain electronic and paper documents. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to prepare to create electronic presentations. This includes organising the personal work environment in accordance with ergonomic requirements, and applying work organisation strategies and energy and resource conservation techniques to the planning of work activities. 8 BSBIND201 Work effectively in a business environment BSBITU301 Create and use databases BSBCMM201 Communicate in the workplace As a new worker you are be required to quickly research and identify the requirements of organisations. The candidate must identify a job role and demonstrate the ability to develop a daily work plan, set goals, prioritise activities and identify skill gaps and learning needs. This Assessment Task is split into two parts. For Part A, you must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to design a simple database. For Part B, you must answer questions in relation to database design, legislative and organisational considerations relating to the use of databases within a business and problem-solving when designing and using a database. The database design and answers to the questions must be submitted in the form of a report. You must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to create and use a simple database for a customer loyalty program in a simulated workplace. This will include using basic design principles, software functions and simple formulae to design a database using a database application (Microsoft Access). You will also need to create simple queries and reports, enter the provided data and then use the database to obtain the required information. You must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities required to use a simple database for stock records in a simulated workplace. STUDENT WORKBOOKS AND RESOURCES: Participants will be provided with in class workbooks, these workbooks will not be provided as part of the price/cost of training. You will be provided with electronic files that should be sufficient for your learning program, however if you wish to purchase the workbooks particularly if you are undertaking the training via distance we can organise that for you or you can purchase the books yourself from IBSA Learning Resources. The cost of individual books is approximately $20 - $30. COST: $850 or where funding is available the administration fee will be less for eligible participants (please refer to smart and skilled information on the BEST Training website.) FEES PAYABLE: Fees are payable when the student has received notification of enrolment. Fees must be paid in full within 10 days of receiving an invoice from Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre. Bankstown Education and Skills Training Centre may discontinue training if fees are not paid as required.
