1 INTERNATIONAL RECRUITMENT OFFICER HEW LEVEL 6 Position Number: Organisational Unit: Position Reports to: Overall Purpose: Organisational Context and Relationships 48255G VU International (VUI) Regional Recruitment Manager The overall purpose of the International Recruitment Officer is to work closely with Regional Recruitment Manager(s) to execute the strategies outlined in country and college recruitment plans and the operational plan for the team. The position supports the broader activities of the Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions team within VUI, including assisting with admissions. Within the University the position: works closely with Victoria University International staff, Marketing Services, Student Services, colleges, the broader university community and current and prospective international students. Location/Campus: The position is currently located at the City Flinders Campus of the University. The position and incumbent may be relocated to any other existing or future University work locations where it conducts its operations. The nature of the position will necessitate overseas travel for periods of up to three weeks up to six times a year. VU has eight colleges, each covering a broad discipline of study, six research institutes and seven research centres. The University has nine campuses in Melbourne's CBD and western region, and a tenth campus in Sydney. It also offers courses at partner institutions throughout Asia. More than 47,000 students, including around 15,000 international students, study VU courses worldwide. Organisational Unit Victoria University International (VUI) recruits and services the needs of prospective international students, and develops and administers offshore teaching programs. MAJOR TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES Coordinate the day to day activities and resources for assigned countries/recruitment partners to ensure that business objectives are met within budget, and, in accordance with set procedures. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with assigned recruitment agents and other key student recruitment partners, maximising their potential as recruitment channels by demonstrating the highest professional standards of customer service. Participate in activities designed to maximise the conversion of prospects throughout the student lifecycle, demonstrating effective communication skills from lead to enrolment. Assist in the preparation of promotional plans and marketing strategies for assigned countries/recruitment partners of responsibility, based upon performance data generated within VUI and relevant market intelligence available through a range of secondary sources. Work cooperatively with a broad network of contacts within the University to ensure that key internal stakeholders receive accurate and current information relating to international student recruitment. In collaboration with the Regional Recruitment Manager, monitor and evaluate recruitment and stakeholder activity to ensure that they are relevant and effective in meeting the University s strategic objectives. Play an active role in managing and contributing to the development of online and print marketing collateral for assigned markets and partners. Help identify, implement and evaluate student recruitment process improvements, particularly around the student experience, within the recruitment team, and also the wider VUI team and the University. Provide regular student recruitment statistical reports and trip reports which enable senior VUI staff to readily access a range of data analyses and provide information to inform wider strategic plans and VUI projects. Support VUI s recruitment efforts through the provision of assistance in assessing international student applications during peak times. Adhere to and co-operate with all OHS policies and procedures of the University. TYPICAL/MAJOR CHALLENGES Display initiative and exercise judgement in the provision of high level administrative support to help ensure that the objectives of Victoria University International are achieved. Refer decisions concerning more unusual or complex situations to the Regional Recruitment Manager. Monitor and contribute to the development/ review of work area policies and procedures. Operate within the University policies, procedures and guidelines. LEVEL OF SUPERVISION Operates under routine supervision/general direction from the Regional Recruitment Manager. 2

3 PROFESSIONAL AND ORGANISATIONAL KNOWLEDGE Requires dual sector perspective and understanding of vocational education and training and higher education (HE). An understanding university/ VUI policies and procedures which inform this role s activities and how they interact with other related functions. Awareness of Victoria University s quality assurance policies and procedures and the government departments that relate to international students, including: o The Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act 2000), incorporating the National Code of Practice for Registered Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2007 (the National Code 2007) o Universities Australia s Provision of Education to International Students Code of Practice and Guidelines for Australian Universities o Obligations imposed by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and the Department of Education and Training (DET) KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Essential 1. Knowledge or Training equivalent to: completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience or completion of an associate diploma and at least two years of subsequent relevant work related experience; or combination of a certificate or advanced certificate level qualification and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. 2. Good knowledge and experience of the international onshore student market, the Australian education system and government policy affecting international students. 3. Sound knowledge of international qualifications and other appropriate information relating to all courses offered by the University and the nominated entrance requirements. 4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills within a cross-cultural environment, with a demonstrated ability to liaise with people from all levels of authority and represent the University in diverse settings to deliver high quality customer service. 5. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to determine priorities, schedule work to meet deadlines. 6. The ability to produce and analyse statistical information and interpret that data for a range of audiences, identifying opportunities and threats. 7. A good business acumen with an ability to analyse, think creatively and develop and implement administrative improvements to achieve targets. 8. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team, together with the capability to work alone/independently. 9. Proficiency in all aspects of word processing, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and 3

4 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Outlook, together with the skill base to quickly gain working knowledge of any external or University-based online system or database. 10. Demonstrated capacity to understand and comply with employer policy and practices in all aspects of work and conduct, including OH&S and Anti-Discrimination responsibilities and complete/attend relevant training. 11.
