1 HEW 6 Position Title Web Analyst- Metrics Reports to Manager, Digital Comms, Design and UX Organisational Unit Web Services and Communications Position Statement/Purpose Provide web insights and analytics to enable evaluation, monitoring, compliance and improvement. Organisational Context and Relationships Within the University the position: works closely with all members of the Technical Development stream in the Web Services and Communications area to provide data support and analytics to support high standard development efforts also works closely with the content and User Experience streams within the Web Services and Communications area, and other staff in Marketing and Advancement is managed by Manager, Digital Comms, Design and UX Outside the University the position liaises with suppliers and stakeholders on issues related to web analytics and metrics. Location/ Campus The position is currently located at the City Flinders Campus of the University. The position and incumbent may be relocated to any other existing or future University work locations where it conducts its operations. Position Number

2 POSITION DESCRIPTION Typical Activities/Indicative tasks Provide regular reports, analytics as required by Marketing and Advancement (Web Services and Communications) department. Develop regular aggregated reports and analytics for Victoria University s online channels including domestic and international websites and social media. Identify problems and solve data related issues in order to streamline the reporting process and improve data quality. Liaise with key stakeholders in order to improve practices around web data and analytics, providing support and guidance for interpretation. Provide Insights that will assist the department to deliver on its requirements as per the University s strategic plan. Liaise effectively and at a high level with organisational units and staff beyond the immediate unit to gather information, stay informed and contribute to the requirements of the organisational unit and keep other areas informed of relevant issues/activities. Scope of the role Data gathering and extraction Web analytics including Google Analytics Distilling and presenting consumer/visitor insights Create and maintain automated dashboards Oversee the implementation of tracking analytics and metrics for improved web performance Level of Supervision Operates under broad direction from the Manager Digital Comms, Design and UX Judgement, Independence and Problem Solving Display initiative and exercise judgement in the provision of high level administrative services to support the achievement of College/portfolio goals High level of judgement, initiative, independence and problem solving skills required in resolving issues and providing advice within own area of responsibility. More complex issues to be referred to senior management for advice or decision Develop, review and evaluate administrative procedures Direction is provided in terms of objectives which may require the planning of staff, time and material resources for their completion Operates within and operationalises University policies, procedures and guidelines Limited detailed guidance will be available Development or modification of procedures may be required Works collaboratively with senior management and staff Proactively resolves issues (within clearly specified parameters) within their area of operation

3 POSITION DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Responsible for ongoing insights and making recommendations for the improved development and maintenance of Victoria University s digital presences Working collaboratively across functional streams with web content, social media, user experience, web analytics and digital marketing specialists Liaising with stakeholders to elucidate and clarify measurement and reporting requirements Responsible for provision of expert advice on issues relating to analytics data collection, analysis and presentation Responsible for achievement of position objectives, within agreed time frames and within agreed budget. Must comply with all University governance and relevant legislative requirements, Share VU commitment to Equity and Diversity, OHS and VU Values and Behaviours and display these in the way they go about their work Professional and Organisational Knowledge Expertise in their area of responsibility (web data, analytics and metrics). Develop and implement programs/projects involving their area of expertise and which may impact on other areas of the institutions operations Familiar with federal and State government legislation and policies related to the tertiary education sector and its impact in their area of responsibility Knowledge of University operations, governance and decision making processes, including quality assurance policies and procedures and other relevant legislative requirements Interpersonal Skills Highly developed written, oral communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation, influencing and problem solving skills High level organisational skills Demonstrated capacity to work positively, effectively and collaboratively with a range of people at different levels within the University Work with and contribute positively to the larger team/work unit High levels of integrity, commitment and judgement, including the ability to deal with complex issues with sensitivity and confidentiality Qualifications and/or Equivalence I. A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or II. extensive experience and specialist expertise in web analytics, or III. an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training SELECTION CRITERIA Essential: 1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), presentation and report writing skills including the ability to present technical information to stakeholders from a range of areas. 2. Knowledge or Training equivalent to: Completion of a degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise in the digital analytics field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in the digital analytics field. 3. Expert experience collecting and analysing data from aggregated reporting sources including Google Analytics; summarising these into actionable insights for a wide range of non-technical stakeholders; and

4 making appropriate recommendations. 4. Experience with a number of web analytics tools including Google Analytics, Crazy Egg, True Social Metrics. Ability to identify and develop automated tracking parameters based on requirements from non-technical stakeholders. 5. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and operate as an effective team member in a diverse environment, including the ability to document internal processes and procedures. 6. Well demonstrated capacity to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results determined by critical dates in an organisational environment. 7. Ability to work independently, to prioritise work demands and to respond to urgent requests when required. 8. Understanding of the University s strategic directions, structure, and decision making processes. 9. Demonstrated capacity to understand and comply with employer policy and practices in all aspects of work and conduct, including OHS and Anti-Discrimination responsibilities and complete/attend relevant training. 10.
